Agreed. "Feel" is quite subjective for each different individuals.

Anyway, here's a good argument-cum-discussion about focusing mechanisms: http://www.dyxum.com/dforum/forum_posts.asp?TID=24369

I recently spent several days in Bosque del Apache NWR and had a chance to watch Canon USM lenses being used by professionals. It's no contest. I have two Minolta HS lenses, the 70-200 SSM and the A700 body and could not approach the speed and accuracy of their equipment. Not even the Maxxum 7 or 9 film bodies, which I own, could drive the HS lenses that fast. Sony's got a long way to go whichever system they choose.

sorry i lost interest after page 2. I think forum is forum. They will come up with their own conclusion which is sometimes baseless just like what happen here too.

i'm not a sports photographer, i just pointed out that the EF 50mm f.14 has USM (with FTM), so being RM 100 odd more expensive than the Sony, it can be said "cheaper".

Am getting a dSLR at the end of Feb, or beginning of March. of course would be great if i can find a used Minolta 50mm f1.8 or Sony 50mm f1.4, then only go buy the A200.

Anyone having a 50mm f1.8 wanna upgrade to the Sony f1.4? tongue.gif

hmm and how you know it is not hmm.gif ? have you tried and time both system side by side? is the difference material? hmm to a sports or nature photographer maybe impt. anyway original poster should have facts to back when stating such claims - feel feel very subjective.

eh, vincent's point is that a forum is a discussion based, people come up with their conclusion but in some cases it could be just baseless.

anyway whatever the AF speed is about, it's good to know some benchies. and how much faster are we talking about. 0.3 secs?

A few examples (from the big table):
Canon EF 50mm f1.4 USM, RM 1792 RM12xx
Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II, RM 380 RM30X
Sony EF 50mm f1.4, RM 1650

Canon EF 70-200 f2.8L IS USM, RM 8640 RM65XX
Sony 70-200 2.8G, RM 10,888
Fixed,

Conclusion, you might get to start cheap with Sony, however in long term run, you gonna pay aloooot more to buy Sony lens compare to buying Canon lens at the same spec. If you guys just wanna get a DSLR for the sake of buying one, maybe you can start cheap with Alpha 200 and it's just the matter of time before you change to Canon once you start to know how to calculate better.

the price quoted for the sony 50mm 1.4 is based on the recommended selling price at sony style. go bargain a bit at sg wang - it is lower than that price.

Have to try to find a used Minolta 50mm f1.7. Should be around RM 300-400. This "should" be better than Canon's 50mm f1.8. The minolta has 7 aperture blades, the canon only has 5. from pictures i've seen, the bokeh is quite round too.

Average selling price for a used Minolta 50mm f1.7 is RM4xx-5xx and you only get to see people selling that lens once in a blue moon. A used Canon 50mm f1.8 is around RM2xx, if you are lucky, you can get it for Rm180 like one of our forumer, do a random search at our Trade Zone and you'll know how easy it is to get a used Canon 50mm f1.8 compared to getting one for Sony smile.gif

Minolta 28-75@F2.8 (constant)... Definitely one of the best lens for the A-mount... Y bother talking it? Is just that the kitlens is alil wider, that's all.. other than that, I dont see anything else extra from the kitlens... Even the aperture F2.8 already speak for its price.. hehe

EDIT: I have yet to see anyone else using this lens... with something that rare, how is it not expensive leh...

For people like me who doesn't earn enough to by a RM5k lens, and like shooting wildlife photography, I know that a RM2.5k Sigma 170-500mm or a RM700 Sigma 70-300 APO will come with image stabilizer if I get Sony system (or Pentax).
Unless one prepare to spend a fortune on Canon L lens, or rich enough to own a RM10k lens, I don't see the difference between RM5k and RM10k because I know I will never buy either of it. One day if I become a millionaire, what is RM10k? I don't think I'll give a damn.

For the sake of comparing:
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer = RM2,395.00 (www.shashinki.com)
SAL75300 f/4.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens = RM999.00 (www.sonystyle.com.my); RM500 with Alpha 200 Kit

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Auto Focus Lens = RM2,295.00
SAL100M28 100mm f/2.8 Macro Lens = RM2,999.00 (you get IS for additional RM700, now where is Canon EF 100mm IS from Canon?)
Want a cheaper solution with IS, there's Tamron 90mm @ RM1250, yeap, IS included.

if u think and observe carefully, sony only lose out pricing in few high end lenses, others almost the same price if not cheaper..50mm f1.4 prices are almost the same for sony and canon, i dunno who put there RM1699.lol

but sony definitely lose out on lens choices..

so if u want wide lens lineup, go for canon.
