Ah, this one is the silver one with three LEDs in-front right? This model has HDCP issue where it will only output 576i when connected through an AV Receiver and not direct to TV. White STB fixes this and has newer Android version. Other than that should be the same video quality, interface and lag.
Your STB not really 'ancient' though. There are two other older models not running Android at all.

Can't do anything... other than complain to TM maybe...

So although TM says all versions of STB will get the new UI, the really old STB remains unchanged so far? AVFAN

yaya this is the one with 3 LED's in front. Ah I'm not using connection to AV amplifier, using HDMI to Tv and digital to amplifier. So white one also lag when navigating? afaik this silver one is not so satisfied it feels laggy after pressing button. I just have to go with EVPAD 3s then.

When using on Unifi, all silver and white box should have same picture quality. The newer silver and white box that run Android can be used on Streamyx too but have lower picture quality on Streamyx mode.

White box laggy when using other apps and when navigating the newly updated TV UI. When navigating launcher and settings not so lag. Now can't use other apps also after system update removed the PlayStore last time and changed the launcher recently. If you want use other apps then get other box or use smart tv. If want to watch Unifi TV then no choice just use the laggy box because old box already no more and new black/plus box or other Android box not as good picture quality for Unifi TV channels.

Just signed up for the new package but will retain the current white box for future purposes (don't ask me how but I have a spare white unit which I can hand over to TK tech later) and will test it out.

So far the new playtv@unifi app for android works fine on my Note 10 but need to toggle bitrate up to 4.8mbps then it's only watchable

Tried to download 1.1.6 from playstire but not working, seem like TM still restricting access for other android certified box aka mibox s.

from the 3 posts u made, my comments:

.. yr box root switch failed... if astrogo detects root, it means the root closure is incomplete - this is not uncommon with less known boxes.

.. yr box is running on regular android, not AndroidTV (ATV) - u cannot use v1.1.4, 1.1.6, official or modified - look for v1.2.10 or later.

.. above is assuming yr unifi account has migrated to the new. if unmigrated, u should be using v7.9.11... but if yr box unrooting failed, it will not work too.

.. to totally unroot the box, u will have to use manual methods - i am unable able to advise as i do not know yr box enough. maybe other sifus will come to your aid.

I think most user in unifi thread complain the lagginess after tm uodates the ui.

Mine was the 1st silver version with chanel number lcd.
That 1 nice PQ and SQ (i use analog to my speakers)

i hv this silver one.

for many hd channels, the PQ is superb - BBC lifestyle, travel channel, nat geo people. TVN, TVN movies, fox channels just OK.

the chinese ones are so bad... and they have the balls to call them HD!

They took back the silver.. 😂

i asked for change twice but they no layan me.
