I have been diligently reading the whole thread. First and foremost, a big thank you to AVFAN, SCTong and password8341 for the valuable information posted.
I contacted the recommended Tx3 mini seller in Shopee regarding the recent Android 8 upgrade without Root Setting. I felt compelled to join Lowyat and post the information I obtained from the seller.
The seller was very frank and truthful about the whole issue of Tx3 mini being upgraded from Android 7 to 8.
The seller even told me what are their plans in the coming future, even though they don't have to tell me anything. No wonder the customers' rating are so high for this seller. I am looking forward to my first purchase from the seller.
Thank you for the update. I am certainly looking forward to the Tx3 Mini with Dual Wifi and bluetooth with Root Setting. I have 2 Tx3 mini, both bought from linglang.my, 1Gb and 2GB ram both on Android 7, and they are able to login & run the new Astro Go app. However as mentioned by AVFAN in the Astro thread, there were difficulty in the login in process.

In my case, I had no problems login in with my first attempt using the 1Gb box.
I even have Google PlayStore Disabled and only have Playservices enabled in this box.

My 2GB box, experience difficulty as the Login Page didn't seem to fully load. Dunno what caused it.
Because the page didn't fully load, even though I type the username and password, the page just didn't move.
puchongite mentioned that it has something to do with webview.
I however manage to get the login page fully load after updating my Google Play Services in this box. The box was out of storage space for some time, and No Playstore apps was updated in that time.
I login when the page properly fully loaded, and click the facebook login method. I however didn't use facebook to login but my mobile number instead.

Both boxes work flawlessly on Sony LCD TV and PC monitor, albeit there were some live channels with very tiny sound sync issue, and one particular Channel Astro AEC with 'staggering' issue. I notice only the Astro Channels are affected. However the sound synchonization is almost indiscernible to untrained eyes, and the 'staggering' issue was easily solved by clicking Restart, to watch the show right right from the beginning. As for Astro VOD, they are all good, no issues whatsover.

NOW HERE IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE I HAD WITH THE ASTRO GO NEW APP....... LG LCD TV don't seem to be compatible.

I tested on a old LG LCD TV 42", NON-SMART TV. Both boxes only display a Blank screen when opening the Astro App. Once I hit Exit/Back on my air mouse, it goes back to Launcher Home page. I find it really weird. Changed the HDMI cable, Changed the HDMI CEC settings.. nothing helps. I find this really odd. Hope others can offer some insight.

I notice that LG Smart TV is no longer supported by Astro Go app in their store. I sincerely hope these users don't go out to buy a 'tested working' android Box but later find out the Astro Go app doesn't work on LG TV.

Again, I wish to highlight that both Tx3 Mini Android 7 boxes work on PC monitor and Sony TV, but not on LG TV.

Did you manually unroot the Tx3 Mini Android 8 box? If you did, can you share how it is done. Thanks.

You have done quite a bit of investigation here. Good investigation.

Yeah, possibly login difficulty is to do the full page failed to load completely in a particular webview implementation, while another webview gotten problem resolved due to faster page loading.

And perhaps disabling play store also speeded up the page loading.

Those with login difficulty such as TM STB boxes can try this trick.

I have never tried disabling play store services. Disabling play store is an interesting option. There is no other side effects ?

the unresponsive login page was seen with tx3mini.... but the solution was simple - just exit and go back in, all is good.
this issue does not occur with tx5max or my himedia box or some other boxes, i suspect.

LG... it has been reported astrogo APP no longer supported on LG webos.... but you are saying the TV itself does not support the app in another box?
if that is true, it is very strange... the tv is just a slave, should display the stream coming from an independent box.
will have to wait for more LG tv users to comment...

I actually planned to have Google Store and Play services disabled altogether in my 1GB Box. If it was not because of a few apps, I would have kept Play services permanently disabled. AstroGo 8.2.6 being one of them. So without Google Play Store long during installation of the new AstroGo APK.

No problems on the Tx3 with out Google PlayStore.

The unresponsive login page, was permanent feature on my Tx3 2GB, until I updated the Chrome, Google, Google Play services. I didn't realise the box wasn't updating due to lack of storage. I believe the last time it updated was 3 months ago.

As for the LG TV, I am also at loss for words, I changed cable, changed port, changed HDMI CEC... The new AstroGo app just displays a blank screen. Took it to a Sony TV of same age as the LG, no issues. Put both boxes on a HDMI/VGA converter to an old Monitor, also no problems.

According to my pm messages, he is one of those who PM-ed me for modified AstroGo apk and reported working for him. I am of course not sure if he continued with the usage. wink.gif

To avoid more confusion on AstroGo root issue, please note that Astro server has server configured setting which they call it "business rules". Based on the business rules, the Astro Go app can choose not to enforce root checking for certain model of devices.
