Yep. Possible. Mini toslink. Similar 3.5mm aux.
Tx3 Mini though has full-size toslink/optical.

Interesting take on old MacBook though. Don't headphones normally use 3.5mm aux? I'm not familiar with toslink but they're digital output aren't they? Work with headphones? Just curious.

u can try it.

i tried it with a headphone, doesn't work - meaning it is not L/R audio.

i doubt it is mini toslink - normally not found on cheap devices.

my bet is it is an AV port - video+audio L/R.

I asked THE oversea seller. He said and I quote, "dear, it is 3.5mm SPDIF coaxial digital cable".

Nevermind though. I thought of simpler 3.5mm audio output method for my purpose. biggrin.gif

coax digital could mean Optical Fibre which would be DIGITAL.

If indeed it is the cable shown in the pict, that would still categorically be Analog Signal and not digital, right?

More likely the word Coaxial has put us off, as usually that would mean coax inteference protection screening cable sheath.

In this instance, could very well be a Fibre Mini Toslink using a Cable which is coined as "Coaxial digital". I have no idea, I don't have a Tx3 S905X3 to check. Best to ask the sellers to give item link to the cable which can be connected to the so called SPDIF/AV 3.5mm hole.

SPDIF can be coaxial or toslink, both are digital... but lossy digital, i.e. dolby, dts only.

(only HDMI allows lossless HD audio - dtshdma, ddtruehd, dtsx, ddatmos.)

my purchases over the years, coaxial is becoming less common, mostly toslink are included, if at all.

i will be surprised if this cheap tx3 has this mini-tolsiink that gives digital; more likely the hardware inside only passes thru aac.

How useful are the pre-installed 10k channels? If not, I'll just buy from oversea seller.

Thank you for this thread, I've just received my TX3 mini build number 20191116, android version 8.1.0 .

Anybody know any playTV unifi app that works? The before migration app as I have not been migrated to the new playTV yet.

The tablet version in play store can log in but give me playback error (111) when try to play the channel, while the phone version cannot be install.

Here are the comments that is relevant to getting the old Unifi Play TV to work. I have been reading in other thread, that it is impossible to get the New Unifi TV plus Box APK to work in OTT Tvboxes. Latest modified Unifi TV by pendekar7 only seem to work well on Android TV OS instead of Android Mobile OS.

I guess it will be some time, before a kind soul mod the new UnifiTV apk for OTT boxes.

Just to clarify a few things first.
Are you using Tx3 Mini?
Reason is because I have only played around with Tx3 Mini 1 GB and 2GB models. I have never touched any other boxes before.
And I got my Tx3 Mini from  THIS SELLER [click here], and I  cannot say that all Tx3 mini have the same software.
So if you wish to know the solution, best just to get one box and ask the seller for help.
I literally spent tens of hours tinkering with Error 15401 and Error 111, when I could have just ask the seller for help. I even sent a few emails to TM customer service, but no they offer no help - as initially I thought it has to do with user and device login history in their server.

Sincerely, I cannot spell out the solution here step by step. Cause it is an easy patch and a very easy patch if Unifi wants to close the loophole. I will be curse for 7 generations by other Unifi Play TV users and their uncle aunties for giving them trouble, ha ha ha. Further more it may or may not help if you are not using Tx3 mini.

I might not be able to spell out the workaround, but I can give the next best thing.
If time permits, I will write out how the flag detection program works within the app.

Error 111 or 1111 (can't remember exact code)- relates to root
Error 15401 or 105401 (can't remember exact code) - relates to wifi requirement

A few months back, after the input from the seller I manage to replicate the errors and clear the errors at my will. It was only then I decided to just use a modded apk just for the few free channels. What is more,  the modded apk is already given out in someone's earlier post with a cryptic link, ha ha ha.

BTW, to that someone, I have copy and paste pmed to you. You were not the first to ask me directly.

Spot on. Though there is more to it but the core idea is correct.

I find it hard to believe a user with the proper Tx3 mini device, cannot find out the solution within a few tries - after knowing the cause of Error 15401. That is why my first question to the forumer " Are you using Tx3 mini?"

I will throw in another hint - The Wifi Emulator setting did not trick Unify Play TV app. It probably confused us even more.

However with that being said, the Wifi Emulator setting in Tx3 is to address some apps that refuses to connect to internet when the mobile app cannot see wifi connection and assume mobile data is being used in the android box. An example of such app is pCloud. It is after all, normal that mobile apps developers design their app for smartphones only and didn't think of android box. So can't fault the mobile app. That is why Wifi Emulator setting comes into play. My hats off to the person who wrote up the Wifi Emulator and Superuser in the Droid Setting Column in the Tanix Tx series.

Two things you have to keep in mind to operate playtv@unifi
1) Keep android Wifi setting enabled even if you are using Lan
2) Never ever change the root setting again, there is a chance paytv@unifi run in the background and detect box is rooted, and raised a PERMANENT RED FLAG. You can change the root setting, and playtv@unifi will only show TV1 and TV2 as others are blocked due to Root detected flag.

To clear the Flag, you need to clear all data and cache of playTV.
Set root to close, and login to the playtv@unifi again.
And never open it again if you don't intend to repeat the whole clear data/cache - Login again.

Other wise if you insists you need the Root Opened for other purposes i.e copy files from internal storage to SD card..
then consider installing an older version  Modified playTV@unifi app.

if u have not been migrated, tx3mini shud work with this app version.
it works on my tx3max, tx5max, tx3 s905x3:
https://www.apkmonk.com/app/com.huawei.pad.tm/

BUT... make sure it is using WIFI. LAN connection will not work.

u r welcome.

tanix boxes using amlogic chipsets - tx3mini, tx3max, tx5max, tx3 s905x3 - they ALL work well with official astrogo and unifiplaytv apks.

these 2 apps been working well for those boxes for at least 2 years, don't have the problems reported for other boxes all the time.

cheap in price but there's something good in their firmwares that make them great for these 2 rather fussy apps.

airmouse cannot do that unless u know how to program it.

only remote.

try: shut down, power up, set to sleep again.... then try gain.

also, possible faulty hdmi cable or very special TV.

Some questions first to ask of you.

Is this a new Tx3 Mini? And you have this issue ever since.

Stock Remote as in the Infra Red Remote Control?

Those remote that works with a usb dongle cannot awaken my Tx3 mini Android 7 but can for other boxes running Android 8. However my this other box has problem turning on from shutdown. It can only turn on with power switch Off then back On.

In your case, it could be a faulty remote power button or weak batteries. Since mine is not Android 8, best you consult the seller if it is brand new box.

Faulty hdmi cable can affect? 🤔 But the box works just fine, except the wake from sleep one, so i don't think it has anything to do with hdmi cable, if not sure can't watch anything then. Not sure what u mean by special tv, I just have normal lcd one.

My airmouse have IR learning mode which I've managed to programmed the power button and I think it works fine because I can shut down using the power button of my airmouse like I did with stock remote. Both also can turn on the box from shut down, except from sleep mode.

Haven't tried your suggestion yet as I'm away right now.

Yup, brand new, bought from shopee about 3-4 weeks ago and got this problem since day 1. I've asked my seller but it seems like she can't help me much, probably just an outsource seller. Always need to refer her supplier even for simple question. 😅

And yes the stock is IR remote, which I think is the same like every tx3 mini. Both of them are using newly bought batteries. Though I bought the airmouse from different seller, as I said before, everything works just fine, except waking the box from sleep.

Worth to note that I'm using stock firmware and didn't flash anything new as this one can already play latest astro go and playtv just fine. But I do suspect that the firmware is the root cause. Not sure what version but I'll update it here once I got back.

Thanks for the replies, guys. ✌

Edit: Forgot to mention that this tx3 mini is the one with s905w.

If u r using original hdmi cable, it will be fine.

Some tv models have unique handshake protocols.

Or u have some other devices attached to the tv causing it.

Do try a few things to eliminate the possible faults one by one.

Hmm I don't think my TV has that handshake protocols, first time I've heard it.

Also I only have the box attached to the TV.

Thanks man, will get back here soon.
