yes... both killing new tnc for new subscribers/recontract...  ranting.gif

last time i like about time is that if anything i just pay rm500 penalty max... now it is the same like unifi, as good as no termination if need to pay remaining months in full...

i am on old contract, i believe i should still be able to downgrade to rm99 200Mbps plan just that i am stuck with 2 years new contract though...  sad.gif

last time downgrade just reset the 24 months contract period only no need pay rm500. now so strictly

Is this due to router or something else? I got A when tested on my iPad, 4m from main router.

Could be my wifi mesh router maybe? It is a wifi 5 mesh router.

Not sure if I need to upgrade my current Linksys wifi 5 mesh to newer wifi 6 mesh to further improve the latency?

And I think even it is changed to penalty of remaining months of contracts I will still opt to downgrade. I am still under the old contract that the penalty is fixed at rm500.

But assume that I continue to use the service while I am now on my 4th month of contract without downgrading I will be paying extra rm960 for 18 months while comparing to downgrade to rm99 200Mbps plan for a new contract.

Anyone knows whats going on with TIME connections to Europe?

I am monitoring different own and/or public servers with Smokeping and latest since January 2024 it got really bad.
There was also one earlier, but the latest network disruption in my area was on 13.01.2024... and it never got good again.

Connections within Malaysia or Asia are fine.
Just connections to Europe (and partly North-America) suck really bad.
Packet loss, bad latency etc. etc.

See below screenshots.
Anyone an idea?

Wired connection only. Cable is CAT6, 50cm not bended not broken. - not wireless.
Mikrotik RB5009.

Again - connections within Malaysia/Asia are fine.

Seems like the routing to Europe is messed up.

Last time I had this issue was similar time of the year but 2021 and TIME fixed it pretty quickly after I opened up a complaint at MCMC.

Can you do a MTR trace route?

I've been complaining about the horrible TIME routing for months, their reply has been pretty standard blaming upstream provider and out of their control.

With that, I just can't recommend anyone to use TIME if you care about International routing. Other ISPs have better service quality these days.

I suspect there's something wrong with NTT cause whenever I notice high latency and packet loss, it's usually due to NTT. Not sure if the scenario is the same for you.

ic. no wonder.. if wired then i guess i may be able to the get the same result as well.

the fibre pt is at the living room. so the best i can do with my PC is to use a mesh wifi router in my study room and connect my PC via wired for better connection but again still not good.. given the result...

seems like no better option than FTTR but it is not an option to me even i am willing to pay.

yes, could not agree more... i was previously on unifi since 2016... the connection for unifi is good overall, i have no issue with mobile game (china)... except last time when i was upstairs of my house the connection is affected becos i was using mesh wifi router also... but even the mesh wifi connection is not excellent, my gaming experience is still not bad.. relatively smooth and not much hiccup all the time..

now i am on time broadband, the main router in living that is connected to internet and the mesh unit in my study room is so close to each other which the signal is excellent... but again sometime i experienced serious lag for my mobile game... which is not justifiable... with a smaller unit i am staying now, and wireless signal is actually better, but again i encountered more lags...

so i can ascertain that indeed time broadband is not exactly better than unifi in terms of connection. although time broadband 200Mbps plan is excellent for its value which i agree la... but given the connection is very good, even plan nice is not matched also..

besides, i had confirmed with time customer service, he told me any new or recontract from 27 march onwards... which I believe why it is 27 march becos it was the date that that time gives free speed boost, the termination fee will become remaining months of contract subscription fee instead of fixed rm500 previously...

Sure can do.
Note that I run trace-route right at my routers interface that is connected to the ONT/ONU.

Yea I complained once a few months back to support staff for poor connection to AWS Virginia DC because I have frequent dropouts, seems to improve very slightly (at least no longer as frequent)

But seems like it has only gotten worse since, <50kBps speed to LeaseWeb Europe DC as of writing currently

I am not having any contract anymore with TIME; so I am seriously considering switching within the next couple of weeks if this doesn't get substantially better.

As it is not the Malaysia network - maybe Maxis or Digi just have better routing? Or should I consider switching to a business plan?

Yep, doing this as well... it helps a bit but isnt a longterm solution. I am super annoyed that I am forced to do that vmad.gif
