ITU Region 1 = Europe and Africa only. If YES has deployed LTE Band 20 commercially, it is breaking international telecommunication agreements.

It’s not hypothetical, it is running band 20. Check out the report in the mentioned link or just browse the Yes 4G thread.

According to the Yes4G Wikipedia page, the Telco has a 5x10Mhz “trial” spectrum in the 800Mhz frequency band. A trial spectrum here would mean that MCMC had given approval to Yes4G to trial its mobile services in the 800Mhz frequency band, for a short period of time and high likely not for commercial purpose (public); just like how the current 5G networks are being trialed internally by the Telcos, with no public access.

However, in Yes4G’s case, it has deployed a wide network coverage, for commercial reasons, using the “trial” spectrum in the 800Mhz frequency band (Band 20). Screenshot of the Yes4G 800Mhz live network below taken in two areas surrounding Setapak-Wangsa Maju, KL.
https://www.malaysiainternet.my/2019/11/ytl-yes4g-800mhz/

YTL Yes had a BN-government contract to connect 10,000 schools with 4G LTE. Likely, Band 20 = 800MHz was trialed for this purpose.

If so, trials for schools do not necessarily mean commercial deployment by YTL Yes for non-school use. What YTL Yes is doing may be illegal. Hence, its trials on 4G LTE Band 20 for commercial use, ie for non-school use, may be temporary = may cease at any time.

YTL Comms to use base stations at schools till Sept 30
QUOTE
As such, YTL Communications will be able to use its base stations at the current agreed rate until Sept 30, 2019 to which they will then be asked to pay a higher price for the lease, depending on the location of the base stations.

This would leave Yes 4G users wondering if their services would be disrupted if both parties fail to come to an agreement by then.

Webe Digital/TM and YTL Yes started 4G service with the inefficient WiMax technology before changing to 4G LTE = late entry into the 4G LTE market = allocated the least bandwidth by MCMC.

Ooh..
No wonder I saw YTL lobbying for more allocation..
Even mentioned that Celcom/Digi merger would result 1 company holding "big pie" of the spectrum allocation...

Want to ask if any of you got same situation. My phone was suddenly added to Gamelord subscription with my RM3 phone credits deducted. I don't subscribe to anything via phone and it appear to join these you need to apply via sms. If there any way to get my credits refund?

One thing. The Gamelord subscription is open to all Umobile users. This is clearly a mistake.

This kind of RM3.00 to RM6.00 SMS scams seem to be perpetrated by some of the celcos themselves as their side income. Victims may need to report and complain to MCMC to get refund. ....... https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4622020/+20#bottom - MAXIS SCAM ALERT. SMS short code subscription., RM3. For the past 1 year as a postpaid UMobile GX50 subscriber, I have not received such SMS scams that seem to only auto-debit RM3.00 to RM6.00 from prepaid account credits.

You need to call U Mobile Customer Service, inform them you never subscribed to the service, and ask for refund.

Worst of UM prepaid users does not similar like Hotlink has E-Statement which able to trace each month.
You need to trace one by one for the scam sms.

Same goes for DiGi too..

FYI:

QUOTE
Thus, in 2016, the government announced plans to  reorganize the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrum holdings of Celcom, Digi, and Maxis, and to assign  spectrum in both bands to UMobile, which previously only had access to spectrum above 2 GHz.

As part  of this realignment exercise, Celcom and Maxis saw their 900 MHz holdings (2x17 MHz and 2x16 MHz,  respectively) reduced to 2x10 MHz, while Digi’s holdings were increased from 2x2 MHz to 2x5 MHz and U  Mobile was awarded 2x5 MHz.

In the 1800 MHz band, Celcom, Digi, and Maxis each had their 2x25 MHz holdings reduced to 2x20 MHz, making 2x15 MHz available for award to U Mobile
https://www.mcmc.gov.my/skmmgovmy/media/Gen...I_Annex-B_1.PDF - Aug 30 2019

UMobile had been allocated only 4G LTE Band 7 = 2600MHz in pre-2016. In 2016, UMobile was allocated 4G LTE Band 8 = 900MHz and Band 1 = 1800MHz also.
....... So, UMobile 4G LTE network coverage and service should be improving since 2016.

Afaik, 2600MHz = cell tower has a range of only up to 1.5 miles but top speed is 300Mbps and easily blocked by walls;
............900MHz = cell tower has a range of up to 3 miles, not easily blocked by walls but top speed is only 75Mbps.
.... 2600MHz is better deployed in city areas and 900MHz is better deployed in non-city/rural areas.

YTL Yes and TM Webe/Unifi Mobile were late entrants to 4G LTE(at around 2014) and were allocated the reserved Band 38 = 2600MHz, Band 40 = 2300MHz and Band 5/20 = 850MHz/800MHz.

Interesting information 👍
So now it's seems like government is like "spreading" the spectrum allocation to more Telco.. give same level playing field 💪

QUOTE(Khuan0813 @ Jan 24 2020, 04:33 AM)
Yes, huge different between the open areas and in a building (like house).

Most of oppo and vivo phones just have 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 38, 40 and 41 only.

If you are using U Mobile or Yes 4G, you can have good signal in the open area. But once you entering a building, the signal becomes bad, cannot surfing internet and even go to 3G.

Since LG is not official launch in Malaysia, although it has 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 39, 40 and 41 (according to LG V30+ Hong Kong version), I don't know whether U Mobile can suit or not with the phone.
*
QUOTE(Khuan0813 @ Jan 24 2020, 12:55 PM)
When I put my U Mobile in oppo and vivo phones within price range RM1,299 and below ( 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 38, 40 and 41 ), the signal in my house has dropped to 3G, very unstable and totally cannot online.

When I put it in SAMSUNG, HUAWEI / HONOR and Xiaomi Redmi phones ( 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20, 28, 38, 39, 40 and 41 ), the signal in my house is 4G, good and stable.

It's just my own experience only. Nothing to do with fan or not fan.

LTE band 20
secret band used by YES 4G LTE, umobile, digi, maxis  cool2.gif
QUOTE(Khuan0813)
Yes, you are right. It's 4G band 20, it is very important to U Mobile and Yes.

If you are a user of one of these two companies, if your phone does not have this band 20, your 4G line will drop to 3G, or H when you are in the house.
QUOTE(Khuan0813 @ Jan 26 2020 @ 02:11 AM)
Digi and MAXIS not sure, but U Mobile and YES are using 4G band 20.

When I put my U Mobile in the oppo or vivo phone without this band in my room ( as I mentioned before ), 4G become H, just 1 bar only and totally cannot online.

After that, I put it in the phone with band 20 in the same place, the line straight away go back to 4G, almost full bar most of the time and can online.

If it is not this problem, can you explain what is the reason?

.
UMobile does not use Band 20 = 800MHz. Only YES uses Band 20. Khuan0813's problem is likely due to the following: ...

Eg the Oppo A5 2020 and A9 2020 do not support LTE Band 7 = 2600MHz, the main 4G LTE frequency used by UMobile. ....... https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/6507521b
https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/dd36521a

So, we need to check the specifications of phones to be celco-compatible before buying them or before subscribing to celco.

Before buying the phone, that was on December 2019, I have checked the phone specifications many times from oppo Malaysia official website : oppo.com.my and vivo Malaysia official website : vivo.com.my.

That time, the phones that I wanted to buy both support 4G band 1, 3, 5, 7, 8, 38, 40 and 41 as stated on their official website.

But just now I go to view the oppo, they have changed to 4G band 1, 5, 8, 38, 40 and 41.

And vivo has not changed, still maintain the same.

Anyway thank you for helping me to find the answer.

You are welcome.
.

It's helpful to all of us when we discuss and clarify things, ie not make it into a war of words.

Including myself being guilty, I have come across needless complaints against celcos' network service from some users who are not well-informed about the technologies and policies used by celcos and smartphone-cos, similarly for telcos and computer technologies(= complaints about poor Fiber Internet service, malware, ransomware, privacy intrusion, etc).
....... Eg I just found out that I can also pay my postpaid GX50 bill via ATM's Jompay by using my account information from my monthly e-Bill.

Good day.

Wow, when I’ve complained to umobile About poor speeds/ poor 4G coverage, they admitted about congestion and they would do some optimization from time to time and a new base station would take like 3 months

One thing that sketches me out is that they got the wrong address(wrong street name)

Users should check 4G/3G network coverage before subscribing. ....... Eg ...
https://www.nperf.com/en/map/MY/1735161.Kua...-Mobile/signal/

Users can even fully test a celco-network coverage and speed by buying its cheap prepaid Starter-pack. With no-contract phone plans, subscribers can always port-out if not satisfied.

i'm in kg melayu subang, noticed one thing new starting from early jan, umobile's lte band 7 is no more used in my area. the main band is now band 1 and band 3. i mean umobile's band 7 is not available at all, disappeared like it's switched off completely. i'm using network signal guru to lock to specific bands to test. can anyone test your area too?

edit: i don't have a screenshot of how it was before, but i'm 100% there was band 7 coverage in my area, and it was the main one. now it's gone, not sure if this is permanent or temporary.

Frequencies used on U Mobile Network in Malaysia

Frequency...................................................Frequency Width..Protocol ........Notes
900 MHz (900~905, 945~950)................ 2 * 5 MHz............. HSPA+
1800 MHz (1730~1745, 1825~1840) .... 2 * 15 MHz .......... LTE
2100 MHz (1920~1935, 2110~2125) .... 2 * 15 MHz .......... HSPA+/LTE .. 2x10MHz LTE in some area
2600 MHz (2520~2530, 2640~2650) .... 2 * 10 MHz........... LTE
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U_Mobile

Seems, UMobile is transitioning to 4G LTE Band 1 = 1800MHz and Band 3 = 2100MHz from Band 7 = 2600MHz. Maybe because of less frequency interference from other celcos, the lower frequencies give better range/coverage per cell tower and have better wall penetration, even though slightly lesser speed.
....... Seems "Band 8" = 900MHz is only 3G/HSPA+ for backup(eg in case area has no 4G coverage) = top speed 7.2Mbps.

I have just experimented setting my mobile network to only WCDMA/GSM or 3G/HSPA+(= 900MHz), ie no 4G LTE, and I can still get HD/720p/1.6Mbps streaming on Youtube and 5Mbps when downloading apps on the GX50 phone plan. 3G signal reception on my Android device is better than 4G LTE, ie 900MHz is better than 2600MHz in terms of signal range and wall penetration.
....... Of course, if the subscribers can use speed of at least 7Mbps, they should stick to 4G LTE.
