Hahahah bro. I have the same rtn12 as a repeater in my current setup.
Reason I wanted the DIR842 is to possibly setup a repeater with 5GHz connection but I guess if not possible then I’ll just wait for a better solution.

What u use as main router?

Really, unless u need high wifi speeds at far away bad spots, average eqpt for most purposes are acceptable.

If one can get 30-50mbps for browsing, phones, android apps, smart tv... good enough.

Only when u do heavylifting stuff will u need 300, 500, 800 full... for that, use ethernet will be best.

Gotta balance usage and benefits vs additional $ spending...

Using the TM supplied DIR-842 as the main router connected to the ISP modem and BTU.

Hmm true that. Thought sometimes the need for speed > rational thought.
Guess I'm going to sell this spare DIR-842 then.

Hi, could someone please advice how we can setup two routers for Unifi (primary router for normal internet access, secondary router exclusive for VPN access)?

I tried setting up my routers. The primary router (Asus AC1300UHP) has access as expected, however the second router (Asus RT-N12HP) is not able to connect to internet (even before installing VPN on the router).

My setup is as below;
Modem ---> Wan port Primary Router ---> Lan port 1 (not Lan4 for IPTV) to WAN port Secondary Router.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

*Note: Connecting the secondary router to Modem directly does give internet access so I assume that the problem is connecting secondary router to primary router for internet access.

I just the TP-Link Archer 3150 router, after setting up, I could not get the wifi speed that I have with my Unifi 800Mbps. The best that I can get with my Samsung S8 is 200++ Mbps with 2.4Ghz and 400++ Mbps with 5Ghz. I also tried testing using LAN Cable, but I also cannot get 800Mbps, it is about 200Mbps only.

Is there any setting that I need to change in order to get 800Mbps?

Hi, is NAT Boost Enabled?
Check in Advanced Tab --> System Tools --> System Parameters --> NAT Section.

Thanks

if using lan cable from primary to secondary, u r trying to set rtn12hp as AP or access point.

first, u need to access the rtn12hp, set to AP (access point) mode (yr previous setting is likely router mode) - u did that?

i hv never set it as AP but i believe it's the same steps as setting it as repeater which i did.

got turbo ed to 800 Mbps

Huawei HG8240w (modem) --> Linksys WRT 1900 ACS (router) -- > Linksys 16 port Gigabit Switch -- > Cisco 2700 with 2.4 and 5 GHZ radio

Max speed i can get via wired = 490 Mbps download / 216 Mbps upload.

Max speed i can get via wifi from iphone x (5 GHZ radio) being 3 feet away from ap = 92.7 Mbps download / 82.3 upload.

I have enabled the Linksys WRT 1900 ACS Wifi 5GHZ as well. Iphone x download results is similar to the Cisco 2700 ap sad.gif

Question

1) How to I determine its NOT my fault for not being able to get 800 Mbps - cause if TM fellas were to come to my place and is MY fault then it's 53 myr to them.....sad.gif

2)92.7 Mbps download speed on 5 GHZ is PATHETIC.....what's going on ?

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks

It is definitely your equipment’s fault if you can achieve good speed over wired and terrible WiFi speed.

What iPhone you have?

Wired, i can have about 500+ Mbps but no way near 800 Mbps. Reverting back to the TM supplied router, i get around 500 Mbps as well.

I have a Iphone X which I have made sure it's on the 5ghz band for the Linksys wrt 1900 acs and cisco 2700 ap - both yields only 90+ mbps on speedtest ios app

Any ideas ?

I have no trouble getting 400Mbps on my iPhone X even on a cheap TP-Link Archer C6 router.

Something is wrong with your WiFi configuration.

As for why it couldn't reach 800Mbps, you have to contact TM.

The DIR-842 is a really weak router, you can consider a router upgrade.

Hi, i just upgrade my streamyx to unifi 10Mbps.

TMnet gave me ZTE zxhn h267a modem, but the wifi coverage not that good for my room.

Is it possible to use my old D-Link DSL-2750E as wifi repeater, by connecting my Dlink to ZTE modem through LAN cable?

Yes, you can.
Just change the IP Address, disable DHCP and connect to LAN Port 1.

Wi-Fi Repeater is a different thing. For example, you wanna extend coverage via Wireless.
That is called as an AP. AP is known as Access Point.
You can extend via LAN only.

Thanks.
