Hi Guys, Got some questions on access point seek for your kind advise.

Current set up:
Ground Floor Asus AC86U cable all the way up to 2nd floor connect to Dlink 842 Unifi router (work as access point). On 1st floor got a Asus NT12HP as repeater.
Question:
Can i connect Ground Floor Asus AC86U cable to 1st floor Asus NT12HP (access point) and from 1st floor Asus NT12HP cable up to 2nd floor Dlink 842 as another access point?

Can access point router LAN to another access point router?
*
Possible, but you have to ensure that DHCP is not enabled for N12HP and DIR-842. I have to say that having the N12HP as an access point is not that optimal as it does but support 5GHz AC, unlike the other two routers.

Hi Guys,

Looking to buy a new router to cover new condo (around 1800sqft).
Currently looking at Asus RT-AC1300UHP with quad core processor.
The placement of the router would be on the TV console which is in front of the house and the bedroom location (especially master bedroom) is located at the end of the house.
Not sure if this is the best router to cover this.

Appreciate any suggestion or advice on the setup or different router.
*
Probably not. You need to provide more info as AVFAN has said.

Hi MGM, yes this is an exclusive online model.

You can get this from our Shopee or Lazada store.

Let us know if you need any help  smile.gif

I thought of buying TPlink TL-WR841n(rm59) for use with my Unifi300mbps this couple of days and will use as backup/repeater later while waiting for A6.
TPlink TL-WR841n can be used for Unifi right? BTW how fast is the delivery if bought from Lazada?

https://www.lazada.com.my/products/tp-link-...724eiuSlVq&mp=1

I suggest not getting that. It only supports N and is very basic, plus it only has FE ports, so maximum speed it can support is only 100Mbps.

Hi,

I have just bought TP link AC2300 and 800mbps:-

1) For wired, use CAT 6 and only able to get 600-700mbps for download

2) I use Iphone XS max and 5Ghz to connect, but only to get 300mbps.

Understand, wireless can't get full speed, but won't be difference so much.

Please advise
*
Yes, that is normal. Wired is still the best. The iPhone XS is only 2x2 MIMO, so you can't expect too much of it.

But Wired only able to 600-700mbps? Then I request downgrade to 500 better, no point to pay so high fee but only get 600.
*
Wired should be able to get full speed, but again that varies as TM will claim it is ‘best effort’.

any recommendations for PCIE wifi adapter? Archer T9E still good? or is Archer T9UH reliable even though it's USB? have bad experience with cheaper TP-link USB adapters.

What do you expect for the price? You get what you pay for innocent.gif

See here for a review of all TP-Link adapters (not the cheap kind!): https://www.blacktubi.com/review/tp-link-wifi-adapter/

QUOTE(opjust @ Apr 24 2019, 09:03 PM)
Hi forummers,

Would need a favour from you guys to recommend me a good router for my unifi. I’ve been using unifi for years, couldn’t remember when I start using probably 8-9 yrs ago. Since then I’m using the stock router innacomm rgx4400. Lately after been turboed to 500mbps connection become very bad.

I’m looking for a router to replace this. My budget is only around rm500.

Can you guide me which one I can buy? My usage is just mobile gaming sometimes, nextflix wired to my TV, laptop on WiFi, another tv upstairs using WiFi and want to add desktop to my house on WiFi as well. I do download as well from time to time. Another thing is I’m working from home now and and need a stable connection especially using Skype for business, every time I wanted to share screen or even view shared screen it always have en error and only wired connection can solve this. I’m suspecting because of the old router.

One of the forumers here has suggested to get ac2300, I saw from ookas around 550, do you think I can get a good stable connection up to 500mbps using this router or is there any other suggestion

Thanks in advance for your recommendation
*
Yes. You should have changed the router a long time ago. Get the C2300.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I have read your post including from soonwai & blactubi, you guys have put that very2 well and I understand more around router, WiFi and overall network.

As you have suggested I browse through lazada to buy c2300 but stumble upon this dlink dir-895L which price has been dropped significantly.. I can get around rm830 compared to c2300 rm550.

My question : do you think the 300 increase in price would result in significant difference in terms of performance in my home network.

Device that connected to network at home
1) laptop lenovo thinkpad t480 - capable 5g
2) laptop Lenovo ideapad ultrabook - capable 5g
3) Astro beyond decoder - connect through 5g
4) Sony tv - wired (for Netflix, amazon prime & YouTube)
5) Lg TV 2nd floor (for Netflix, Amazon prime, youtube & astroGo)- capable of 5g
6) iPhone XR- play pubg
7) Xiomi mi max 3 - only 2.4g
8) Ps4 - connect via WiFi 5g

Basically that’s pretty much the client/device that connected to my home network. Do you think that c2300 is enough and stable or dir-895L will bring significant or improve performance for the price
*
Get the C2300. DIR-895L won’t bring significant or improve performance. If you want something really good, get the C5400X, but that is overkill. C2300 is more than good enough, and you can save your money to buy Deco M5 if you need WAP.

anyone here using D-Link 895-L ? Having issues with it with Unifi 500. Signal from router is literally 1 bar, 3-4 meters away from it with no obstruction at 5ghz.

Setting up the router, already notice that its signal is crap. Got it brand new from lazada for RM 829 (thought it was a steal, since I saw the ad on lazada).

After setting up, on 5ghz, getting around 5-10 mbps on wireless AC. Transmission strength is maxed (high) in settings.

2.4 ghz, 1 wall away and i cant see the SSID anymore  doh.gif  doh.gif

Did some reading online and found out its discontinued long ago... yet every 'unifi turbo guide' recommends it for 800mbps  rclxub.gif  rclxub.gif

Any help will be kindly appreciated.  sad.gif

Return it. Get the TP-Link C2300.

Disabled. Still the same. Used in random cafe and tried connect. It works, but in my house.

Hmmm, try with a different router? Latest firmware?

Called OOKAS D-Link technical support, they told me to 'return it for inspection' even when its DOA  sad.gif
Guess thats the last time i'm ordering from them.  doh.gif

C2300 or C3150? C2300 seems to have a faster dual core CPU vs the C3150. Or maybe the new C2600 (Archer A10) ?
*
Get the C2300. I am surprised. OOKAS has good service usually. Just return it to them, and ask for a refund.

On my iPhone XR I can get around 250.. that’s around similar speed with my old TM stock router..
*
Try setting the 5GHz bandwidth to 80MHz, if it is not set already, and see if that will increase the speed. iPhone XR is only 2x2 MIMO so don't have any high expectations. By the way, if your firmware has not been updated to the latest version, do that. It won't help with the speed, but will fix some bugs.

QUOTE(jedi_dc @ May 4 2019, 03:45 PM)
Hmm, that's odd indeed, would expect the iphone XR to be able to hit 400 at least on a c2300  confused.gif . Perhaps sifu silentvampire can help you with this since he's using a c2300 as well  biggrin.gif
*
It potentially could, but it is hard to say with wifi. I am using C3150 by the way. Thank you for the tag though.

Oh! How's the performance on the c3150? Have you encountered any overheating issues? Just ordered myself a c3150 and returned the Dlink 895L . I'm just looking for a stable connection (1 room away from router, roughly 4 meters away).

Currently using asus ac66u 1st gen( 800mhz CPU), getting 160-180mbps through wifi 5ghz. Hoping to get around 300 with the c3150  smile.gif
*
Nope. Very stable. You will be satisfied with it. Better not have any high expectations about your wifi speed. It depends on your device as well, so even if you have the best router in the world, but your device is not up to it, you won’t get the speed that you want.

Did you use the smart connect functionality at your router?
Just an update on my WiFi speed connection on my iPhone XR.
After play around with the setting in the end I just put auto at my channel and after disabling multi user mimo features WiFi speed on my phone increase to 500mbps which surprised me!
*
Nope. That is good to hear. At least you are getting the full speed now.

C3150 is new hardware, and 86U is older tech.

FYI, AC86U is having the latest CPU from Broadcom which is faster than C3150. It is in fact a much newer tech than C3150 although it is released before C3150. ASUS always release something before other competitors do.

Not to mention 512MB RAM on the AC86U vs 256MB on the TP-Link C3150.

A comparable model would be Archer C2300 as it comes with the same CPU and 512MB RAM. Although being 3x3, it will outperform the C3150 with a 2x2 or 3x3 device.
*
Hmm, thank you for the clarification. Did not realize that smile.gif

Need to upgrade my asus N14UHP, since my unifi now is 500mbps.

I'm staying in a double storey terrace house, current router is at middle of first floor, most of the time I'm staying in my room. My pc located at the back of the house, and I connect a USB extender to place my wifi adapter near my room door.

I bet I have to upgrade my wireless adapter as well.
Should I get a mesh setup or just go with single c2300. Mesh setup almost double the price of c2300?
*
I suggest one router which is the C2300. You can try mesh just to be sure, but C2300 should be fine.

Have experience using TP Link Archer C7 with Unifi 100mbps. Good performance, lousy range, stable.

Today installed Maxis 30 mbps fiber and they gave TP Link Archer C5v... biggest problem is it’s unstable. Will disconnect after a while. Want to upgrade.

What’s a good WiFi router with good range. Budget around RM600~700

Asus RT-AC86U good choice?
Or the TP Link AC2300?

Which has better range and stability.
*
Asus RT-AC86U, but for your budget, just go for the TP-Link AC2300.

So it’s within budget. Still buy TP-Link?

If the Asus RT-AC86U is not from China and have local warranty, go for it. If not, I would suggest the TP-Link.

That means no VOIP phone? Sorry not sure what's the purpose of VLAN profile, do explain.
*
VLAN tagging are required for Maxis and Unifi to work as they implement VLAN tagging, so if not VLAN profile, you might not be able to implement VLAN tagging, therefore router can't work for both Unifi and Maxis.
