hi, currently my Maxis upgraded to 300Mbps package.

current device is :
BTU :  TM ONU Alcatel Lucent I240G
Maxis Router : Archer c5v with VoIP

these device can tahan 300Mbps? need call Maxis ppl upgrade?
another thing is i plan to get tplink Archer A6 / tenda AC10u as AP for my house 2nd floor. (got ethernet outlet)
No problem right? or got any better advice?
*
Yes, these should be able to support 300Mbps, and the router you suggested as an AP should be able to do it too, but all these can only support 300Mbps on 5GHz AC, so keep that in mind.

Hi guys, I'm looking for a good WiFi/Cable router for a 2 story shop house, router will be placed on the 2nd floor and since it's a pretty old building there's a lot of steel in the wall which might affect the signal so I need something that gives a strong WiFi signal, there'll be around 15-20 devices connecting to the WiFi including pc, laptops, handphones, consoles and security cameras and might go up to 30 devices when friends and relatives are here during festive seasons. I was looking at the Asus RT-AC86U but am open to other suggestions, budget is around 1k. Thanks smile.gif notworthy.gif
*
Try mesh wifi. Alternatively, you can get the Asus-RT AC86U, but get the mesh wifi and set them up as wireless AP. Your shop house sounds big, so you will probably need mesh wifi. I recommend the Deco M5 or M9.

Yes, and the coverage will be much improved if you change from DIR-842 to Asus RT-AC86U.

I am a wifi noob. Anyone did any comparison between TP Link C58HP vs WR841HP vs RT-N12HP? I have been searching for days and found nothing. Anyone with good advice? In terms of stability and distance.
Previously with WR-841HP for 3 years, no issues at all. But lately, router went haywired. Low speed and keep disconnecting.
No issues on the ISP side.
Contacted TP Link and they recommended me with C58HP. However, I read alot about Asus being a better router. Not sure about the model I specified, RT-N12HP.

Thank you ya... Don't scold scold ya...

Get the TP-Link C2300 or the Asus RT-AC86U for the best performance.

anyone know whether the GT-ac2900 ASUS ROG router is good or not?

I am finding a good replacement router for my unifi 800mbps.
House type: Landed cluster house
Size of house: 2 floors, 2800 sqf maybe
Features required: i dont know
Number of devices connected to WiFi: 6 or so (not all at once all the time)
Internet Speed: unifi 800mbps
Budget: 1-2k

but i have size requirement due to my tight table space. I found asus rog gt ac 2900 which meet my size requirement. Please do recommend me more and better routers

If you have a 2K budget, settle for something like the RT-AC86U twin pack AiMesh.  brows.gif

The only thing capable for 800Mbps mesh WiFi and it is the same size as GT-AC2900.

Unless you are comfortable to top up even further for the RT-AX92U with Wireless AX. This is even smaller than RT-AC86U but comes with Tri-Band.

All of that sounds mighty expensive whistling.gif sweat.gif brows.gif

OP is having a budget of 1-2k with Unifi 800Mbps so I am recommending what's within OP's budget.

The Deco M9 Plus is a decent but a RT-AC86U twin pack will blow it out of the water.

I recently tested a RT-AC86U mesh system and it can actually deliver 800Mbps on the mesh node although I didn't write a review for it.

I can't wait to test the AX Deco once it is available next year. biggrin.gif

QUOTE(uhlaw @ Sep 1 2019, 11:59 AM)
My current setup for maxis fibre 300mbps (2 storey house):

1) 1st floor - TM huawei modem + Maxis tplink c5v (for voip) + huawei b618 (for wireless)
2) Ground floor - tpink c1750 repeater

I have tplink a9 and it originally should be my wireless router (not b618), but my tplink c1750 hardly fetch 5ghz signal from a9.
B618 5ghz signal is much more stronger than a9 (3 bar vs 0~1 bar).

Is my a9 malfunction? or my setup issue?
*
There is nothing wrong with your A9. 5GHz signal is always worse than 2.4GHz. I recommend you switch to a better router, such as the C2300, or even better, throw your repeater away and get mesh WiFi. Deco M5 should be perfect.

Any advise on my following issue?

Get the AC2300, and unplug the agenda extender. You won’t need it after you get the C2300..

House type: Landed
Size of house: Not sure. 2 floors.
Features required: Antivirus/Security, QoS, Bandwidth Limiter.
Number of devices connected to WiFi: Maximum 8
Internet Speed: 10mbps
Budget: 500? less than that would be better.

Currently using TM default router. feels like very limited feature. QoS only can configure a few things like priorities.
Not really sure how much budget i should put in but lets give it less than rm 500

Top up a bit and get the C2300.

Since you need bandwidth limiter, ASUS will be your only choice. The RT-AC66U is within your budget.

Since you mention that your speed is 10Mbps, I assume it is Unifi Lite VDSL. They come with an all in one VDSL modem router.

Just connect your new router to that and disable the WiFi on the old unit.

FusionXY SilentVampire,
TP-Link C2300 does not come with bandwidth limiter feature.

QUOTE(wheelhot @ Sep 6 2019, 04:05 PM)
Hello all, so I have Unifi 500mbps, and after researching around I think the options are:

C2300
C3150
Deco M9
*Bonus* C2300 + 1x M9 in AP mode?

My house is 2 storeys but the current router placement is at the corner top floor. Can't change its location as there's where my Unifi cable access point is. Sigh.

So which is better? My current router is the one that comes with Unifi for 50mbps connection (TP Link model as well).

I read that C2300 is better than C3150 as it's newer but how about signal strength? I see more antennas on the C3150. My current Unifi router loses signal/unstable at the ground floor kitchen (furthest point from the router) and even the room above it (upper floor) loses signal as well.

So since the Unifi one is quite an old router, I wonder will the newer models like C2300 signal is strong enough to cover the whole area?

I thought of the M9, but from the reviews I read, it seems its signal drop-off quite fast especially if they're concrete walls around it. So I don't think I'll get the 500mbps wifi speed, and in mesh it seems it goes even slower.

As I mainly do my work at the main hall area which is located beneath the router, I do accept if the speed at the kitchen area won't be at 500mbps.

One last thing, I read that you can use the M9 as a Access Point mode, would this be better than getting a power line/range extender? Especially for areas with weaker signals like the kitchen area? And I guess since it's an AP, I have to manually change wifi connection on my device to point to the AP unit? As it's not a mesh network right?

https://www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1842/

My suggestion is to get the C2300, but if you want to be sure that you get consistent signal and speed, get the 3 pack Deco M9 Plus and dump the current TP-Link router that you are using.

Hi, can anyone please advise on setting up a Netgear router?

I just bought a Netgear R7000P to replace the router I got from Maxis but I can't get the internet connection to work.

Setup:
TM Modem port 2 to Netgear router's internet port
Netgear router port 4 to PC (Windows 10)

I've gotten and confirmed my PPPoE from Maxis:
Login: xxxxxx@home.maxis.com.my
Password: xxxxxx1

I've tried both MAC addresses of the Netgear and Maxis router but still couldn't connect to the internet.

Am I missing something? Please help.

Yes, you are. Did you enable VLAN tagging at all? You need to have VLAN tagging for Maxis to work. I don’t think Netgear have native VLAN support if I am not mistaken, unlike Asus, TP-Link, or even D-Link.

You may need to set this up manually: https://kb.netgear.com/25724/VLAN-tagging-s...ighthawk-router

Maxis VLAN is 621, just for your reference.

Hello, need urgent opinion as it's 9/9.

I just found out of this DLink model:

DIR-2660 ( https://www.dlink.com.my/product/ac2600-sma...outer-dir-2660/ )
DRA-2060 ( https://www.dlink.com.my/product/ac2000-mes...ender-dra-2060/ )

The cool part is the range extender works like a mesh, so no need to switch SSID.

Should I get this instead? But I'm not sure of how well the signal strength of the router, thoughts based on hardware spec? and from what I read, it appears there's no beamforming (I believe C2300 has one right?)? Does beamforming really make a difference?

Not much review online sadly (I guess cause it's that new), the closest review I found is https://www.straitstimes.com/tech/pcs/tech-...ure-mesh-router but it's not detailed enough so you don't know the other speed mentioned is based on what router ohmy.gif

Or I should just get the C2300?

I did consider Deco M9, but somehow it appears it has quite a drop off in wifi speed when there's concrete wall involved and my house has many walls.
*
Just get the C2300, or M9 Plus. Much better than extender.

Need help guys.

Im currently on unifi 800 after the turbo.

I am using the archer c9 and feeling like all that speed is wasted.

So i need a recommendation for a new router.

Im in a 3 storey house and my room is in the top floor. For some reason the connection drops severely once i get into my room (must be my wall is made of kryptonite or something).

Budget : 1k but im willing to go higher for significant improvement.

Im not a power user mostly Netflix, gaming and etc. (adding ip camera sometime soon too)

PS I have around 15 devices minimum logged in at a time.

Maybe need to get a new wifi adapter as well? (wired connection is not an option)

Is wifi 6 worth the additional money?
*
Get the Deco M9 Plus. Best option for you is to put cables but Deco M9 Plus is the next best thing.

hi all, needs help deciding which router to go...

house: typical double storey 20x70
devices: 2 laptops (5ghz), 4 main mobile phones (always connected, 5ghz), 5-6 test phones (wife's job, connect occasionally, some 2.4ghz some 5 ghz), 1 cheap NAS (LAN), Astro decoder (5ghz), tvbox (5ghz), 5 cameras (2.4ghz), 6 light bulbs/switches (2.4 ghz)
internet plan: Maxis 30, but Time is coming so planning to get Time 100mbps (don't know when)
current router: Asus RT-AC1200+
problems: upstair kids room can't get stable wifi when playing mobile games. laptop connection occasionally drops, suspect the router has reached its limit.

I don't have big budget but if something can last me a good 3-5 years I am willing to spend around 800-1000. currently I am looking at Asus RT-AC86U and tp-link Archer C4000, both are similarly priced on lazada.

I just need stable wifi throughout my house and can support as many internet connected devices I am going to add in future (maybe another 10 to 20?)

which one should I go for? thanks!
*
Get the Asus RT-AC86U. You won’t regret it.

Hi guys,

Please recommend me a good latest AP to replace my existing ones. I am on unifi 300Mbps, and currently getting around 30-80mbps only from the AP. Our installer said due to AP do not support 5G. Fair enough since the existing AP was installed by them in 2016.

House type: landed
Size of house: 3 storey (lots of walls) (2 APs each floor)
Features required: the best available can penetrate walls. our current wifi connections are really bad in the rooms although signals are very strong.
Number of devices connected to WiFi: a lot. >30 (phones, tvs, cctvs, laptops)
Internet Speed: 300MBps
Budget: dont mind.

Additional info:

The installer recommend us the AP from Ignitenet AC Wave2 Mini PoE  https://www.ignitenet.com/wireless-access-p...wave2-mini-poe/

Thanks
*
If you do not need to use PoE, you can try the Deco M9 Plus. I would recommend Ubiquiti if you are looking for enterprise grade stuff.
