hello
can the Asus rt-n18u maximize the 800mbps unifi package?(via lan cable)

or something better is required?
*
Something better is required. It does mention that it have gigabit ports, but it wil be severely throttled by the CPU.

does this affect my download speed?
via FTP, only 12Mbytes/s per file.

i have been trying to "fix" this issue but i cant find the problem.
even the AC1200 from tm cant seem to fix it.

what router do you suggest?mostly LAN usage only.
*
12*8 = 96Mbps. Are you sure you are not throttled by your BTU? What BTU are you using?

i have been using this since VIP10 package.
they did come to check it after the free upgrade to 100mbps back then.

how do i confirm if its a BTU problem?Ask them to come and check?
cos i am sure they will ask for a speed test shot, which will be max speed. hmm.gif
*
That should support the gigabit speed. What RJ45 cable are you using? You need at least Cat 5e cable to support the 800Mbps speed. I recommend Cat 6 as the price is not that different from Cat 5e.

Hi,

I logged into my Unifi provided D-Link DIR-850L router. Under Features>Fierwall, I find that all the options are set to "Disabled" Is this normal?? I am a noob in IT. Please help. Also, how do I go to the page where I can see which computers/devices are connected to my wireless modem?

Thanks
*
Nope, but if you are a noob, better not enable anything that you are unsure of. Just click around and you will find it. I recommend changing routers if you want to have the freedom to configure everything yourself.

Get a new Cat 6 cable if you can, and test again. Stop using the same cable.

I'm using Unifi 500mbps. Sorry should've mentioned that earlier.

Will try again when I get home.
*
Why do you want to get IPv6 though? It won’t increase your connection speed or WiFi speed. Your router does not support 500Mbps on WiFi.

Budget should be around 1k

I suggest the C3150 V2. The C5400x is really good, bur if you have an average sized house, the C3150 is more than sufficient. Remove the repeater from your network as it does not help much.

QUOTE(FusionXY @ Feb 14 2019, 10:39 PM)
Yes, changing router is a better choice.
It will improve the coverage.

You may ask this guy SilentVampire as he is using C3150.
I'm using TIME and using own router instead of stock router.
C1200 cannot tahan with 800Mbps. I'm using 500Mbps, always got disconnection.

Thanks.
*
Cheers for the tag. Your C9 ia still working well? No point changing if it is. Might as well wait for the AX models.

Hi forummers,

Would need a favour from you guys to recommend me a good router for my unifi. I’ve been using unifi for years, couldn’t remember when I start using probably 8-9 yrs ago. Since then I’m using the stock router innacomm rgx4400. Lately after been turboed to 500mbps connection become very bad.

Just for simple website loading it took ages, need frequent restart to reset the connection. I’m looking for a router to replace this. My budget is only around rm500.

Can you guide me which one I can buy? My usage is just mobile gaming sometimes, nextflix wired to my TV, laptop on WiFi, another tv upstairs using WiFi and want to add desktop to my house on WiFi as well. I do download as well from time to time.

Thanks in advance for your recommendation
*
See green text on my signature. I would recommend you to top-up and get the TP-Link C2300.

I go to the local dealer shop here. C3150 out of stock. So good business. The price here around 7++. c5400x around 1299. The rest mostly dlink router. Btw does Asus worth the money in long run with its aimesh?
*
Just order online from OOKAS lol. It's only 670 from them on Shopper, and it is always the latest version from them. Asus router is good, but if you want mesh WiFi, might as well buy mesh Wifi, and not router that can be configured as mesh.

TP-Link Archer A7 will be a great choice for this model. Not to mention it is really affordable now.
TP-Link Archer C2300 actually performs better than C3150 when comparing it with a normal laptop and not some high performance WiFi receiver.
*
So, would you recommend C2300 over C3150 in terms of wireless coverage and firmware? I have the C3150 but is considering the C2300 for my other house.

I would prefer the C2300 unless you have a PCE-AC88 to utilize the 4x4.

Hi Sifu,

I need some feedback and recommendation on new network router.
Now using 100Mpbs speed from TM. (I have pay RM150 for more than 10 years with 10Mpbs. mad.gif  vmad.gif  ranting.gif )

I need to upgrade more speed network router, because on this old stuff family don't want put money on it.
I have attached one image of, I have using it form more than ten years TM stuff.

The list of device using it:
2 iPhone
1 Huawei Phone
1 iPad (Korean Drama)
2 Laptop
1 Desktop (only for gaming CSGo and The Division)

Here is the image(now wifi giving 23Mpbs only)
[attachmentid=10195753]

Thanks Sifu
Have a nice day.
*
Refer to first page or my signature. You are still using the DIR-615, which is considered very old. What is your budget? You will need a dual band router and your speed will increase.

I recommend the TP-Link C2300, or if you prefer Asus, the ASUS RT-AC1300UHP. I would go for the TP-Link C2300 personally.

Hi, i would like to ask for some recommendation on PCIE wifi card , any good recommendation? saw quite a good review for this

Asus PCE-AC68 802.11ac Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 PCI-E Adapter

is this recommended?
*
You should get the Asus PCE-AC88 if you want the best. Review on blacktubi site here: https://www.blacktubi.com/review/asus-pce-ac88-review/

Hi thanks for your advice , your recommendation seems much better choice.

However I would like to seek for your professional advice ,

My scenario is my router located in living room and no lan port was build , so originally I wanted to get a good pcie WiFi card for my desktop.

But after some research , some saying power line adapter is actually better and more stable vs WiFi , and using lab cable to connect my destop

Which will be much recommend ? Mine is a new condo and single phase
*
It is better if you save your money and change your router to a router with stronger coverage. How big is your condo and what is your budget for a router? You have any preference towards a router brand?

QUOTE(yongtjunkit @ Mar 7 2019, 04:50 PM)
Hi, Does anyone here knows which is better in terms of signal strength, stability, etc on 5 GHZ WiFi

Built in laptop vs usb wifi adapter?
*
Built in laptop of course, but if you have no choice, get USB wifi adapter.

My unit is approx 800 sf not too big, currently taking 1gbps from time . Err for router budget wise originally I thought of waiting WiFi 6 router which will launch somewhere this year ?

My budget maybe approx 1k-1.2k?

So while in that time I am in dilemma now using powerline or get a good WiFi card which the Asus wan and also change router in future ?
*
If you want to wait, you can. But, just get an AC router for now. Powerline can be unreliable. I recommend the TP-Link C3150 v2. You will need the Asus PCE-88 for it to even have a chance of getting good speed on WiFi, unless you want to wait for an AX card as well.

QUOTE(noskyreason @ Mar 18 2019, 11:55 AM)
hi bro, can share why powerline unreliable? I got an issue where my house is double storey, I placed my router & BTU in living room (ground floor), now I am extending the wifi via wifi extender.

I wanted to get a powerline but I also heard that it has restrictions (3 phase la etc etc), my house comes with 2 DB box (1st and ground floor) and 3 phase. Can you recommend what is the best option for me?

If can I want to extend 5ghz on 1st floor too.

I am currently using UNIFI 300 mbps, router is Tenda AC18, extender is Tenda A9.
*
Powerline is unreliable as it is affected by any fluctuations to the power, and your speed will be highly affected if you use that. That router is good, but a bit dated. If you really want good connection, you need to get a router that have good wireless coverage, instead of using an extender. Try the TP-Link C2300. It is a bit pricey, but it is worth it. You can also try the C3150 v2, but the C2300 should suffice.

Another alternative is mesh wifi, so either the Deco M5 or M9, if you can afford it. I would recommend the M9 over the M5.

Bro thanks for your suggestion.

How to know if the new router is better than my current router in terms of wifi coverage? How to check?

I saw this from OOKAS:
https://www.lazada.com.my/products/tp-link-...s299922006.html

How to know if get this already dun need to get extender ah? RM590 not cheap investment.

If I get mesh wifi, do I still need to use my tenda router?

P/S: Wah mesh wifi not cheap oso, RM 1.2K  sweat.gif
*
I can't say for sure if it is better than the AC18 in terms of wireless coverage, but it should be better as I have the AC18, and its wireless coverage is not that good, compared to the C3150 v2 that I have. The C2300 is similar to the C3150 v2 so I can assume that it beats the AC18 in terms of coverage.

You can try using an extender if you want, but I would still recommend changing router over getting an extender.
