With RT-AC86U pair with ASUS USB-AC53 Nano? What the max speed? Really can be 450?

RT-AC68U supports combined dual-band data rates of up to 1900Mbps. 1300 Mbps 802.11ac at 5 GHz gives Gigabit wireless data rates, while Broadcom® TurboQAM™ technology super-charges 2.4 GHz 802.11n performance from 450 Mbps to 600 Mbps with compatible devices.

I put the fans to blow in. My fan got filter.

The reason is because these fans can only helps to create better air circulation. It's not like the fans in CPU or GPU where it directly attached to the chip's heatsink which sucking-out will give immediate effect. Whether blowing-in or sucking-out it only create air circulation, by blowing-in the outside air which have dust will be filtered before going in to the modem. The remaining vents on the modem will have air going out so it prevent dust from coming in. Whereas if the fans were sucking-out air, the remaining vents will have outside air and dust going in to the modem, long term will have dust accumulated inside the modem.

I'm using this fan. The seller got sell the filter too.
Lazada link
There are others that manage to find such fan being sold much cheaper, can't remember where I read it. Less than RM30 if not mistaken.

If you already got fan but don't have filter, you can simply DIY using old clothes. Panty hose the best filter.

My AC86U died last night. No LEDs on the front, no WiFi, no ethernet, although the USB stick in the back does light up. The PSU is giving 19V as it should. Can't rule out a lightning strike because there was a big storm last night. I wasn't using cooling.

Chinese unit, bought it Oct 18 from Taobao Collection on Lazada. I've read the horror stories about RMA to China - anyone been successful with that?

Tips for a replacement unit? I'd like to have the option to flash Merlin FW, or similar.

My AC-86U just came back from RMA. Still turned to shit. The did some firmware fix and claim my 2.4GHz works. Failed again in a day. This sucks. I sent back to the shop as I don't want to go all the way to Puchong. But looks I'm going to have to do that. Back to my AC-68U then. I'm on firmware 45717 now. Anyone else have problems with 2.4GHz going dead suddenly? If I turn on SmartConnect, both 2.4 and 5 GHz will go down. Only works after a reboot. I can't be doing this every day. It's stupid.

I found your posts and the tips are useful, thanks. I think the problem will be getting the Lazada seller (Taobao Collection) to contact Asus and arrange the RMA. Lazada CS are onto it. I assume it's effectively impossible for me to contact Asus China directly (I don't speak Chinese)?

With so much issues with ASUS China units, I wonder why people still buying them. doh.gif

Local ones are so much better and mind you, China units are actually much worst than local units due to capped transmit power for both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz.
