ic... i also have gap in front, between upper and lower teeth. Actually, are the upper and lower teeth supposed to meet each other without any gap at all? Or upper teeth are supposed to cover lower teeth a bit? I'm not really sure what's the ideal case...

Called Dr How for an appointment but no one pick up the phone.
Ugh brushing teeth is so difficult and it always makes my gums bleed ! sad.gif

You called the clinic number or handphone number? 03-22845529 or 016-3365529? Maybe you called during non office hour. You should try again until someone pick up. Today is Saturday, very packed. Not sure if they allow walk-in. But normally bracket drop, Dr. How will fix for u asap.

Sometimes, it happens when u eat hard and chewy food. But sometimes, its happen suddenly. Just like Karyn, in her sleep.  I havent fix mine yet. It popped out right after i tie the rubberband in the morning.

Mine not at bad, wont bleed when brushing but the bracket hanging at the wire and rolling around...

my case is i crushed my bite stopper in sleep, not bracket biggrin.gif

my bracket drop once, 1 day after repositioning, maybe not glued properly to teeth yet, then i chew hard/chewy food.

by the way, i've been drinking Milo everyday in office, after that i just use gargle with drink water. OK or not? 0.0

I eat everything including steak, I mean those tender ones la.

I only brush my teeth twice a day, which is morning and before sleep. Other times, I just gargle with water after meal. Just make sure you really brush your teeth thoroughly the 2 times, will do. That's what I have been doing, so far is ok for me...

Added on April 28, 2010, 2:48 pmi would like to ask about experience with wisdom tooth extraction. what will determine whether it will be with or without surgery? I heard the cost, as well as, the healing process are very big difference.

Dr. How advised me to extract my 1 and only wisdom tooth, which is at lower left. I wonder how painful will it be and how long will it take to heal. I haven't experienced any surgical extraction before.

QUOTE(barium @ Apr 30 2010, 05:33 PM)
all seniors here, i'm in deep depressed and confused now and i really hope for ur help and advice here.....my story sounds like tis.....

i've been thinking of wearing braces many years ago, but unfortunately, i din get much support from many family and frenz....for my parent, obviously they are worrying bout the cost of the braces (fyi, i'm still a student and i cant afford to pay by myself)....and as for my frenz, everytime i told them, they gave me tis answer " put for wat??? i dun thk its necessary, u r just wasting money" .....but they just dono how bad i feel when i saw my teeth in a mirror or photo......i dun even have d confident to smile nicely in front of people....they just don't know...in my case,it's just my two upper front teeth are crooked and others are going well..so i was thinking of just wearing on the upper part

till recently, my parent finally agree for me to put on braces...i was so damn happy coz i've been begging them for quite a long time....den i went for consultation yesterday...the doctor started check my teeth, and i ask her whether can i just wear for upper part only.....she said no, giving the answer dat 1 of my teeth in bottom is touching the upper part when i bite off....and she said if i wana put on braces, i would have to put on both up and down...i was so shocked to hear that, coz i only thinking of wearing upper part...and moreover, it would be more costly to wear bothsides, and my parent will sure refuse coz tis is not wat i promised them earlier....

wana ask seniors here izit true dat when i bite, d bottom teeth shall not be touching upper teeth.....i dun really believe in her words tho....coz i really dun thk i nid to wear braces at bottom coz its already straight enough....
*
hello, i think u should get 2nd opinion from another orthodontists, since u r not confident in the earlier 1. most orthodontists will hope to give u the most perfect results. we might see no problem but they as the experts might think that it's not perfect enough.

if i understand u correctly, 1 of ur bottom teeth touches the gum of upper teeth, means quite serious overbite/underbite already. from what i know, it definitely requires braces at both top and bottom.

Dr. How is a highly qualified, knowledgeable, up to date and experienced orthodontist. You should get consultation from him and I agree with kentcp, go only if you are ready to put it on soon.

In fact, if you are not financially ready yet. Just put this aside, and think about it again when u r ready. Who knows, 2 years later, there will be a newer, better and cheaper technology. Then you'll need to research and survey all over again.

As for what age to do braces, I do think that better do it when you are still studying, if you can afford. Anyway, there's nothing wrong with doing it after you started earning $$$, I'm a 28 yrs old working adult, I don't face much problem with having braces on, although quite a number of ppl asked me, "why so old only do braces?". Anyway, 18-24 months can pass quite fast, after tat we'll have brand new and perfect set of teeth! biggrin.gif

after i started my braces journey, a lot of my friends told me they needed braces too, but never really go through it. and it is true, not many people has the perfect teeth, they just decided not to fix it. i mean, i wouldn't too if it's not because of the wedding. it really push me forward to taking action. i mean, all the bride i see has got that SMILE of a lifetime.

my colleague was telling me the same too, he likes girls in braces coz they are cute n lovable. :-)

Congratulations for ur wedding!!!

I believe most of us here smile widely with braces on. There's nothing wrong with having braces on. And I'm sure u have made an important and correct decision to put on braces. You really need the smile of a lifetime, as a bride smile.gif

In fact, during my consultation, I told Dr. How that my wedding date will depend on the progress of my braces treatment. I hasn't fix any date/plan yet la...

You mean Dr. How will de-brace for you before your wedding even though the gaps are not fully closed yet? Do you need to put on the braces again after your wedding, to close the gaps?

I have my bite stop installed and it's has been driving me nuts. I heard so much abt it from the forum and finally experiencing it myself is a different thing!  cant wait to get it removed in 2 weeks time. Been losing weight and appetite :-(
*
Bite-stopper is indeed annoying, but you'll slowly find your own way to chew around 1 week having them on. I'm still having 1 bite-stopper on, since 9 months ago. If not mistaken, Nikki is still having bite-stopper also. Anyway, I can chew alright. In fact, I put on 3kg after having braces... What a disappointment, I thought I can lose weight by putting on braces... sad.gif

I normally break burger/pizza/sandwich into small pieces, then only send to my side/back teeth to chew. My friends said the way I eat looks disgusting. Sigh... what to do?

hahaha.....d word sun bian is quite funno tho.... tongue.gif
tongue.gif In my case, the main reason I do braces is to fix my protruding gigi tarings. Since Dr. How said I have overbite, then sun bian fix it also lo. After all it's the same process, might as well make it perfect.

If you haven't decided whether to do it now or later, maybe you can consider doing what I did. I actually consulted 2 dentists and 1 orthodontist before seeing Dr. How. They provide free consultation. However, none of them manage to give me sufficient confident to proceed with the suggested treatment. After that, I went to see Dr. How, who charges RM50 for consultation. I insisted not to take X-ray first because it's quite costly. I just wanted to ask Dr. How to visually check my teeth and roughly explain to me on the type of treatment required. I believe with his experience and knowledge in orthodontist, he's able to give quite accurate suggestion by just looking at your teeth, unless your case is very complicated. If you can decide on the spot, to proceed with the treatment, the RM50 will be waived. Then, you'll still need to take x-ray once you have decided to do it, it's the formal procedure required by MAO. If you cannot decide on the spot, you can go home first and think about it. You only lose RM50.

The retainer should come with a box wan ma. When u go out, bring the box with u so when u eat, take it out and place it into the box? Actually we're very lucky now cos the retainer now looks like a transparent tray rather than a steel wire across our mouth.

I heard it collect lots of saliva inside la. But at least it's almost invisible lo.
Transparent tray? I tot it's still the steel wire type. I haven't asked Dr. How anything about retainer yet.

I remember Dr. How said the treatment cost includes 1 set of retainer but I din ask which type of retainer he meant. The transparent type looks good, doesn't seem like will affect speech.

My case is just to straighten my gigi tarings and fix minor overbite. I've made appointment to extract my wisdom tooth end of this month. Dr. How said it will more or less make my face slimmer. Good for you babe!! I never like my side profile as well, but i noticed the changes now, but not sure if it was because I lost weight, haha.

One question, must we extract our wisdom tooth? Dr. How never mentioned it to me, i wonder if I need to.
I believe every1 of us here is obsessed with our own teeth biggrin.gif

I decided to extract my wisdom tooth bcoz Dr. How said that it will make my face slimmer and he said, "It's a nuisance to me. I look at it, I just don't like it". Haha...

how can u miss ur appointment for 2 yrs??!! u don't feel anxious to complete ur treatment n c u perfect teeth without braces asap?

did u sign any kind of agreement with ur dentist? i signed 1 tat says if i fail to attend my appointment for >9 months, it means i'm not keen in carrying on with my treatment and they'll send me reminder.

u did not receive any reminder from ur dentist? u did ur braces at private or public dental clinic?

Dont worry too much about extraction, he will use anesthetics. So u wont feel pain la. Just that the after effect is quite scary. U will lose quite some blood. Thats it lo.

But still have to do it eventho scared. Just be tough alright?

From your experience, how long it takes to recover from wisdom tooth extraction (with surgery)? I'm kind of paranoid now, I'm not sure mine requires surgery or not. I heard lower wisdom tooth normally requires surgery, but I think mine looks fully grown.
