Leng leng, you're right. Accroding to dr, upper one cover abit over the lower one only. My case (1st photo), you will see my lower teeth over fully covered by upper teeth.

erm.. some ppl lower teeth cover the upper teeth, that is called under bite.. for upper teeth covering lower teeth, it's called overbite..  but then for my case my upper teeth is way too front lor.. so resulting deep bite, whereby my lower teeth can't even touch the upper teeth.. only touch the, erm what u call that ar? Jaw ar?  hmm.gif  luckily my mouth is quite small, so not really obvious.. hehe.. but then quite serious leh my case..  sad.gif
maybe kent can explain better.. haha.. i better stop confusing ppl d  tongue.gif
*
Snowy, if you said so on your case, no worry...if not so serious, Dr can help you to adjust it to touch each other. Understand that if serious case, they will suggest small surgery to cut and extend the lower jaw, so that it can touch each other. Also, it will improve the side profile to nicer look.

Sometime, you see people from side, you see the person's chin is "missing", actually it can be fix by above mentioned surgery/braces depend on how serious of the case.

*
my case no need. haha.. my upper & lower teeth can touch each other..just deep bite isse only. Chin missing - is not real missing. Just a view from side.. u will see the person lips, after that immediate slope down to neck. Never see this type of people from side before ?

Would like to ask for every1's experience here. Every time after installing braces or appointment, will feel pain right? The pain occurs only when try to bite something? Each time will pain for how long ar? I feel pain for 1 week already. Is this normal? I can bite soft food like... kuey teow soup... Does this mean tat I can only bite soft food for the rest of 18-24 months? Can I eat like normal (rice, meat) in this period of time?

Experience sharing from you guys here are really appreciated.

Thank you.
*
I would said once the teeth straight (~few month), u will start able to use the side teeth to bite. (I only able to use my front teeth to cut some food that not so hard recently..) Unless dr re-positioning the teeth then "that teeth" will feel pain and can bite food. So.. how we eat ? Normally, i using the teeth at the back.. because those teeth at the back is in straight condition, no pressure by the braces, so it won't feel pain. "Send" the food to the back and chew it lo...

Soon, u will able find a way to eat when u tak taham with just soft food wink.gif

i've eaten lots of soft food like ice-cream, cakes, tong shui, durian... in the past 1 week. Guess my diet plan is going to fail

Btw, if i force myself to eat hard food, or eat a lot of thing, will it slow down the progress, or will make it faster? anyone has idea about this?
*
I believe chewing food will make the process faster a bit..but don't over hurt the teeth..just eat soft to average hard food will do.. u should know your limit when feel the pain..

It's my 6th week of wearing damon 3 now. My teeth is considered over crowded and doctor informed me it is not necessary to extract any tooth. I do not notice any changes yet. Is it normal? I didn't feel pain at all since day 1. Is that why the teeth is not moving cos not tight enuff? My next appointment is next week. I feel frustrated for not seeing anything changed after 6 weeks.  sad.gif

No worry, the noticeable move will be after 3 months. smile.gif Few of my bracesian friend also the same..

Sorry guys, been too busy on my project works recently. Will seldom log here till sep.. You may PM me if any msg would like attention to me.

For stoper.. some people installed on both side. some just one on the middle (behind teeth of course) like mine.. was installed for few month.

How long the stoper will install? It's depend on your situation. The answer should: till your teeth moved and your teeth no longer hit on the braces.
when full close mouth or chew food.

How to eat ?

Based on my experience, the only way is swallow the food. So, you have to eat real soft food or blend the vege, meat with porridge to ensure you have enough nutrition for that few month. That's why my weight drop tongue.gif (Don't blend too long, else the taste will not nice. Try it, u will get what i means)

My main concern when i was considering whether to do braces or not was extraction of healthy teeth. The reason I chose Damon system is because it doesn't require extraction for my case. My mom says if i extract my healthy teeth, I'll regret during my old age when I don't have enough teeth to chew...

I keep all my teeth extracted since small... biggrin.gif

is the damon system less obvious than the traditional braces?
*
Let the photo answer..

Damon is smaller. Conventional braces on the left are tied in with elastics, which cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a slide mechanism to hold the wire, which allows teeth to move more freely, quickly and comfortably.
Damon braces are designed to be discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Without the elastic ties which attract and collect plaque, Damon braces make dental hygiene easy during treatment.

do you think i can switch from conventional braces to damon system?
*
You can switch it but I believe it will cost you a lot than our total cost.

If you already using conventional braces, then switch it to damon system unless

1) Addition cost of money is not a matter for you tongue.gif
2) You need to align your teeth within 2 years & less.

Accidentally removed a few? Wow...dont so ganas la... hehehe Anyway, yes putting the powerchain is painful cos doctor has to ring the brackets with the chain. That includes pressing and all. I tear also when doctor did that. But what to do. Powerchain is good. U will see result so fast, i swear. Your teeth will move in position faster with powerchain. 4 front teeth? sap sap sui la...I think it on 6 teeth for about 2-3 months i think. Then no more powerchain.

But i suffer again cos i was showing too much gum. Den doctor uses powerchain on the brackets and attached the chain to the screws on my gum to do a minimal gum treatment. That was the worst pain i ever encounter so far. (dont ask me details of my screws and gum prob, explained too many times)

Currently i'm off powerchain. rclxm9.gif  Tuning lower gum. Next appt will tune upper gum.

Added on November 21, 2009, 9:59 am
Yes, Karyn is absolutely right!. Dont be lazy and not wear it. Your teeth will move back to awful position if you dont wear. After that you will have to go on braces again. There must be a reason why doctor ask you to wear it. Make it a habit to wear it just like how u have to brush teeth every morning and night.
*
Yup.. the power chain is pain but move the teeth fast.. also, certain few month is pain.. certain pain just so so only.. it is not getting pain & pain every month.. if so, i died already lo.. as I'm 23 months la ~~ now just minor pain, as it's all aligned, not much require to move already.. Should debrace soon.

Thanks. Finally had my braces on today, the conventional one. The whole treatment costed around 5k, excluding the fees for dental filling and scaling. No extraction is needed though. It has been 4 hours and I'm still not feeling the pain, just a bit tight on the teeth. The orthodontist told me the pain will only be felt tonight or tomorrow. Nevertheless, eating with it is a woeful experience. My first meal with braces on took me around 40 mins even though I'm having porridge as dinner and the food will be stuck between the brackets. Haaha.

QUOTE(DaiLagann @ Jan 18 2010, 10:28 AM)
My advice is ask around for a good orthodontist.
i got an okay but not great ortho and i think he did a mistake on my teeth.
he did'nt want to remove any of my teeth prior to installing in my braces because he said it was a new method. i had too much teeth in my lower jaw that stuffed up my teeth in the first place. now my teeth are in order but i have to get oral surgery done because to make room for all my teeth my lower jaw is now longer than my upper jaw. That's more pain for me so i just wanna say ask the ortho about oral surgery and if you will need it after the braces come off if you don't want to remove any teeth.
*
I am sorry to hear that on your case. I am using Damon and not require to remove any teeth. I believe it is case by case basis to depend on the person condition. New system may / may not require to remoeve any teeth. However, the old system is almost 100% need to remove teeth. I was going to old system during my primary school. I was asked to remove 4 teeth ! I went for 1st appointment to remove one teeth, then following appointment I was cancelled due to afraid..so, i did get the brace and missing one teeth till i am installed new system on last 2 years. no need to remove any teeth at all.

I agreed with you. smile.gif Your case is classic example that must look for at least few year experience orthodontist who had did hundred over patient before.. This will allow the orthodontist have enough hand-on cases experience..

I believe i had mentioned this several of time in this thread. Not going to repeat it again. wink.gif

Good luck ya.. smile.gif

QUOTE(mrchildren @ Jan 19 2010, 09:37 PM)
Gosh, it's been quite a while since my last post. I'm now in my 7th month of braces. Last month, the doctor asked whether or not I want to extract my teeth as it will give more space for other teeth to move in. He said that it's optional since i will still look ok even without any extraction. However, for today's appointment, he noticed that there's no movement at all from last month, meaning to say that I may need extraction now. Oh gosh, there goes my idea of keeping all my healthy teeth.

Can someone tell me how long does it take for the teeth to close the gap in between after extraction? And is the pain bearable? I had really bad experience in my childhood where the nurse pulled out one of my loose tooth without any anaesthetic. Plus, will the gaps from the missing teeth look obvious? I need to learn not to smile anymore to conceal that ugly holes. Oh well.. Enlighten me please.
*
no worry on the gap. it will closed eventually, as you are wearing braces now. Those without braces, after removed the teeth, the gap will remain, as they don't have braces to move the teeth to close the gap. smile.gif
