Ober,

You are using SRAM shifters with your Deore RD? Can meh?

Coz currently I just trade in my LX Dual Shifters, DNM std rear shox and Tektro disc for Fox Float R and Magura Julie.. Then wanted to buy the X7 shifters to fit my LX groupie..

Then other people say cannot use due to different ratio.. Now thinking to get X7 (shifters, cassette & RD) at Bikepro for RM450 then got another offer for X9 (shifters, cassette & RD) for RM480..

Then another fren says just buy the X7 shifters (RM160) and X9 RD (RM190)..

Sigh.. now dunno wat to buy.... rclxub.gif

SRAM attack, rocket shifters model that can only be used with shimano RDs. Other than that, you cant use it. because of the ratio difference. 2:1 and 1:1. I suggest you to go for X9 model. if you can get it that cheap.

SRAM attack rocket shifters? How much is that?

Should I buy a complete groupset or mix and match? Read a review that the X7 shifters are better than the X9..

hmm...

it's really up to you. but compatability it has to be in the same group to be good. to get the "ngam". rite? like me, i cant afford to get the same group so i had to mix n match. so the setting kinda lari-lari.

I thinking of using back my old setup.. Just get the LX or XT Shifters..

Some peeps says that the way of changing gears between SRAM and Shimano is like a japanese and a continental cars.. SRAM is a bit harsh while Shimano is a bit quieter..

And I am so far left behind of these upgradeable biking parts..

mushr00m,
Nah...not really...the only different between Shimano n SRAM is thumb n finger shifting.

Shimano XT trigger shifter - Push thumb to 32T / Pull finger to 11T
SRAM X.7 trigger shifter - Push thumb to 32T / Push thumb to 11T

If u use the XT shifter ur thumb n finger will be on the shifter pod but ur finger also needs to be on ur brake lever as well. If you use the X.7 shifter pod ur thumb will be doin all the shifthing up n down n u can safely use ur fingers on the brake lever whole time.

Both Shimano n Sram are good products it just that you have to get use of it. I know that SRAM shiftinng are more precise.

Wah low weih... Like that can get a very wonderful setup bike or me getting married... smile.gif

me0wster.. were you in FRIM yesterday morning? Saw a slim figure chinese dude riding a blue GIANT NRS wearing black bermuda/khakis..

There was quite a number of people yesterday.. Enjoyed my ride after a 1 month break... Next week got invited to go to Saujana.. Dun know where it is but they say it is good for building stamina...

i wish i rode more often, now only go rolling around in kepong. my only epic ride was when i brought my bike back from TTDI (after repair at KHS (they suck)) via the sprint highway! die man climb that slope after kiara horse club.
i work in hartamas but wife wont allow me to cycle to work, if not so much fitter! thumbup.gif
since then the poor baby sitting at my inlaws. one of these days going to ride it into bukit tunku area and visit the monkeys before they all get halau from there!
i also agree bak kut teh is good for post ride nutrition! but bak kut teh here is different from KK one, there they serve in little bowls here BIG POT.
recommend the bak kut teh stall near Jinjang police station, nice and light not oily.

what pedals you get? spds? egg beaters? i like them they look very cool and minimalist and very important lightweight but need to get shoes that are compatible and that is so PIA! so just use platforms only lah.

Hi Guys n Gurus! Newbie here from Penang.

Just transfered to the island and had bought myself a Piranha for cycling to work (about 5km one way). Nothing fancy, newbie...

Have just started reading the treads on V2 , still long way to go before I can cover the whole V2.

suddenly get itchy about upgrading my bike's kit. what shall i get? new brakes? still on a pair of LX V brakes. Should i get discs coz my hubs are disc compatible but the rims are for v brakes. are Disc wheelsets lighter? or should i just get my LBS to build me a wheelset around my old hubs?
any thoughts?

For example me0 n his friends n I went up to Kiara last weekend (Awesome!) Finally get an eye of me0wster "Blue NRS" thumbup.gif ..but there;s FRIM also..it depends la..

LX V brakes ok wut..but if u want to invest into disc brake, n ur hub supports disc brake u dun need to change ur wheelset la..unless u got extra $$$ to spend on the wheelset drool.gif ... if u buy those expensive wheelset it should be very much lighter. depends on ur budget, wheelset hardly breaks even it;'s an old one. depend on how u ride also if u r a person like to drop very much, sure the wheelset someday will become potato chip..but if u ride casual XC goin over some bumps it should last longer. biggrin.gif

there are a lot of bicycle shop in singapore...really alot...u can always goto "togoparts.com" and look for the link "bikeshops". It will list down about 107 shops with address. i thnk that list is much bigger then klang valley bike shop.. hahaha.. biggrin.gif or u can follow this link "http://www.togoparts.com/bikeshops/list_shops.php".

their shop are quite professional, alot of the shops are aircon and sells great product (newest product) which u can't find here.

Usually go s'pore just for fun... But every year in June/July sure go there for the Great Singapore Sale...
This year already include visiting a few bike shops in my yearly agenda.. Also wanna check out the Fox outlet in Orchard.. Last time went there good sale but their riding pants got no size...

This week gonna try the Bkt Cermin in Putra Heights.. It seems that they have a 4 feet ramp.. See whether my Tbolt can stand the jump or not...

It is behind USJ.. On the road from USJ heading towards Puchong, its before the Toll, there a junction to Putra Heights..

It seems that some people who stayed there which really MTB ethusiasts have created a track for riding... All I know that it started off with a 45" Degrees climb and it is quite technical.. Maybe I could take some pictures and have it posted ere...

the registrations fee$ i$ really expen$ive nowadays...

and when we organise our DH race in Penang for the last 2years only cost RM25 and we are without any sponsor!

those ppl that have tons of sponsors and still charge RM50 is abit exp... give out free jerseys or tshirt, yes it may cost them some money to print but not everyone will like to wear it lo.

i dont wear all the free tshirts from rides or races for some reason tongue.gif

i still have the tshirts for the last five Penang Jamboree brand new in wardrobe tongue.gif

Put in another RM100 and you can get a Fox Talas. A 'musang' beats RS any time at any level. tongue.gif

Revelation and Talas i guess would be geared more to the AM while Vailla is geared to the XC side.

Vanilla's fixed travel is at 140mm (discs only) but the Talas and revelation goes higher from 100 - 160mm for Talas (36 series), 100 - 140mm for Talas (30 series) and 100 - 130mm for Revelation. Vanilla only comes in coil flavour (32 series) while Revelation and Talas comes only in air flavour

That should sum it up!

*Note: Travels could be wrong tongue.gif

Yup, just updated the posts tongue.gif

But again for 'Musang', the 30, 36, 40 numbers bluntly tell what the forks are meant for! Hahaha. Rite?

Do you know what my NRS max fork length would be?

vanilla is just heavy. cuz of coil. for light and durable i reckon revelation. biggrin.gif but then maintenance wise, its kinda hard lah for RS. that's normal. fox are known for easy maintenance.

I have completed the trail in Bukit Cermin, Putra Heights...

It hard but its damn shiok...

It started with a 45 degrees climb for about 500 metres, which I gave up after 300m, it can easily takes aroung 7-8 minutes of climbing till reach the DIGI tower.

From there, it goes all the way down which I mean really down. Started with a 70degress drop for at least 7 ft, then 2 ft flat then another 8ft drop..

Later a slightly up and down hill with a mixture of snake trail+steroid+single track.. then it goes downhill almost all the way.. Most of the drops there are like 60 to 70 degress drop..

There is one part which the created a 4 ft ramp.. I took some pictures and I'll try to post it ere..

But I need time to recover due to fell of 3 times and mi right hand swollen..

Basically it is a very technical trail, full of tree roots, amazing drops, and best of all, mosquito, due to its a trail mizture of small trees and rubber plantation...

hehehe... it is really high... i was instructed by my fren to bring my butt really back until i was behind my seatpost, lay it easy on the front and back brakes... slightly release both brakes till it reached back down, move your body according to the flow of the bike ...

Its really hard for me to explain ere... you need to feel it by yourself... Damn shiook and also damn scary for me la...

Let me try to upload some pictures by tonight...

Bro,

Dat one my fren fren's shop in Putra Heights.. I have not made the purchase yet.. Since my fren very close with the shop owner, he managed to get me the deal.. Only if I willingly to buy by end of this month...

I was at the shop last saturday, saw the guy sold off a Shimano LX hydro for RM550, complete set.. Didn't got time to ask the shop owner coz he bz fixing the brakes for the guy..

The Shimano LX hydro any good meh?

Good or no good is not the question.. The question is that are u willing to lock yourself to Shimano disc brakes?

Its not about the performance.. It's about the interchangability from one brand to another.

If you use Shimano disc brakes, means you have to use thier hubs which are different from other brands.

Added on June 18, 2007, 2:52 pmDifferent as in design of the hubs..

But as a Shimano Deore Hydro brake user, I got no good comments about it besides it's price...

My calipers even came loose during the road ride yesterday at Butterworth, causing harsh vibration everytime I press the rear brakes.

I am using XT disc brakes with 6" Avid rotors for my HT.
As for my DH bike I am running 8" Shimano rotors

both my bikes running ISO hubs, which is not the Shimano center lock type.

So you can still use Shimano brakes even you are on normal disc hub smile.gif

wow notworthy.gif

imagine we earn abt the same amount of pay compare to ppl in US, ie. typical fresh grad engineer RM2.5k and in US is abt US$3k+

but when they buy a high end bike is only their US$5-6k and what we are paying in MY here is insane. RM20k+ for a high end bike. rclxub.gif

it is really very very expensive for us to be following the latest models here in MY

Haha... Dun la... Later tonight Meow cannot sleep. Haha...

Does anyone know how much does the brake hose cost compatible with Deore rear disc brakes? Mine is leaking oil from the side... cry.gif Can still brake, but can feel that a lot of pressure and power is lost. What can I do besides changing?

And is the case 'too much mineral oil' case common? I think my front brake has too much cause when I fixed in a worned out pad, the lever operates smoothly, but when I fixed a brand new pad, the lever feels kinda soggy and 'not smooth'. (I did adjust the screw for the lever limit to make them bot at equal length when pressed. This doesn't affect anything).

Hope you guys can understand what i'm trying to describe. Please help wit my problem, especially the second onw that has been bugging me for d past 1 year! vmad.gif Went to a few shops and they dunno y.

Thanks....

Kind of late to ask actually..

Anyone cycle up before?

Someone recommend me using the route beginning from Mimaland Hospital. But I only know the main route.

well, why not we make a date one day n go ride in FRIM! biggrin.gif

AndyLo,
well, they (organiser) only cares about the top class runners...is the same thing happened during the KL Marathon 2007 back few months ago. The top runners finishes first, but some people not the professional runner finishes around 4-5hrs. But some of the water distribution already "tahpau" n ciao with out waiting the others. Even the policeman who suppose to control the traffic was "ciao Lou" too... biggrin.gif ahhaha...that's what i heard frm my friend la when he ran the marathon in KL.

Hi Kona,

The hills in FRIM are not that steep... only 2-3 hills.. (including steroid) other that that mostly it is moderate...

WIth regards to gears, its enuff that you have a pair of glove and a helmet (dun bother about 661 or even polygon, coz I have one too). Knee and elbows pads are optional unless you are thinking goin downhill at really high speed or trying to make some wonderful jumps there...

It would be good to have your own hydration pack or at least bring a bottle or two on your bike..

Good luck with your ride... icon_rolleyes.gif

ps.. U might want to wear shades/glasses.. Sometimes the are some branches pooking out ere an there... there are sometimes bugs too... yummy...

This platform is very grippy cause of the spikes that the pedals has. I also like this pedal because it is not spin alot. As in like if u turn it with your hand, it will not spin freely!

aiyah like that ah, fast bocor lo your riding shoes? what shoe you wear?
never told you what i ride.
my baby is a cream colour Jamis Durango Sport. i brought back from london, it was my commuting bike for work. i used to have a specialized hardrock but that got stolen after 9/11. used to ride into london chinatown from my flat, only a 20min ride. took it richmond park also, nice place to ride.

so heavy n hot, how to wear full face here.
my humble opinion to you is just buy a helmet with the most number of vents, with a detachable duckbill visor and at a price you sanggup pay lo.
you would really look like sorhai if you did wear fullface to do XC.
with the cash you save from not buying a full face helmet, you can buy a cool looking sunglasses to lessen your sorhai look. biggrin.gif

Full suspension bike for that cheap is hard to come along. You might want to try looking at adverts at www.bicyclebuysell.com. You might find a bargain there!

For workout, I think a bike with only frons suspension will be more enjoyable.

here in malaysia, just like you want to buy car you have to look at proton or perodua first,
especially if you have only a little money to spare, then just buy the best lerun you can can get.
something that is light enough to carry, aluminium if can coz steel bikes will karat for sure in our climate if damage abit.
at that price level, no need any suspension lah, use your body as suspension your arms and legs, more efficient to climb hills with no suspension at all. put very fat tires on them and dont inflate past 35psi if you want it super plush!
look at the TDF riders, where got use suspension when climbing the alps.
and you must get helmet brada, unless you want end like that youngster who went to buy chilli ketchup but got his brains splattered all across the road, you know la Malaysian drivers are absolutely murderous!

Just get front suspension bikes or even no suspension bike for rm400 if you're planning only for exercise.

Just finished the Cheruk Tukun's race, man its the most difficult race that I have ever ridden. The DH trail is super technical. Glad that I am scratchless after the 2days of riding/racing.

here is the link for some pics.

how much is my bike? mmm that would be five digit in RM. sad.gif

race was good too bad the trail claimed too much victims, 2-3 broken bones and that is part of the reason some ppl opted out for the race.

only have abt around 30 riders for the DH race. All in all it is a very technical challenging trail, super fun to ride.

Andy,
Have you tried it yet?

andy just sent u an email, bike$$ start with 1...

the oil plam estate one is tough on the top but easy on the lower parts, but u will have to push a lot, can get a clean run all the way down.

try the race trail, it is worth all the effort!

No hardtails on dh...Almost impossible to survive. Very tough and rocky.
But of coz a lot of hardtails for the uphill race la..

Anyway I only prefer the ending part of the oil palm estate trail, coz hardtail can go real fast there also. The upper part some must carry.

Wanna ask Meow or anyone here that can help, sorry a bit out of topic.

Can I know where or how can I buy/get stickers for my laptop ? Like Cooler Master, ATI Radeon, Intel Core 2 Duo, Windows Vista etc etc stickers? Those mini stickers that come default on laptops by the keyboard.

Thanks..

Thanks..
*
Check out the garage sales, there's someone selling around RM4+ for the Intel Core duo sticker and Vista.

But for ATI and coolermaster.. didn't come across before.

Problems memang ada... but it's part of learning, and though so much problems, even if i get a new brake I'll still go for hydra. Very nice and diff experience... If problem memang leceh a bit la, but even with a leaking hose now I can still use it. And when it's trouble free, sure very nice.

So far touch wood with my Magura Julie Hydra... No leaks yet..
Bought it for RM250 2nd hand from my mechanic, braking it on a 8 ft drop ok loh... just need to applied it well..

Yesterday went to BikePro and bought myself a SixSixOne shoes to fit my Shimano DX Pedals..

They are on sale I think coz the guy offered me a Wellgo platforms for RM170 and Mavic Crossride wheelset (1pair) for RM720 .. drool.gif .. and it is seal bearing...

Luckily no money yet.. The rims looks much nicer from DT Swiss ... Which one is better? rclxub.gif

RM720 is a bargain for Mavic Crossride....Dun haf to be hasty about buyin it yet, just research awhile first n look at forum reviews.

The BB7 looks good in every forum reviews..at least 4star out of 5. For a mechanical disc brake it looks top notch. usually all or most of the downhiller will go for hydra brake, but for me ride XC won't haf to necessary spend that much of hydra brake. that is my thaught...

me just an ocassional XC rider so actually V brakes will do, i think deore V also can already since our climate is mostly dry when we ride anyway. hydros look cool but not so cool when it comes time to do maintenance. DH n all moutain kakis sure will need the extra power and will not mind the weight. but for me, my deore LXs are cukup makan. hehe now if i can just resolve that judder when i squeeze the front V. maybe a new set of ceramic sidewalled rims will solve the problem! haha

OMG you guys know Chin Aik bikes in Lebuh Carnavon Penang? Opposite CCI, that shop sucks!! Yesterday I went to look for a bmx. Unsure of the model, I called them today and this was how it went:

Me: Hello boss, yesterday I came to look a bmx, and your worker showed me the Polygon 2nd hand bmx.
boss: (goes to ask his worker), then "ya, Polygon model
Me: Can I know what model is that?
boss: Polygon only got 1 bmx model. Come shop and see
Me: But i go internet search got 5 models
boss: Nono.. Only 1 model.. Come see.
Me: Can you go to the bike and see for me?
boss: "boh eng la"(means 'busy la' in hokkien).. Don's disturb. if want come shop and see yourself.
Me: okok.(hangs up!)

SUCKS!!!

He acctually made it very obvious that he didn't want to serve.. What's wrong with him? What a bad experience, never been treated this bad before.
Not only they dunno anything whan i went yesterday, but they cant even provide adequate service to customers.

gravity tires are okay for both on and off road but more to off road type of tyre. if you're more for ON road, don't buy tires like gravity or minion.

You know, the Hutchinson BullDog tires are stated 2.3 x 26 on the sidewalls, are they actually 2.3 or 2.1 tires?

They look like 2.1 just that the sides are rounded so it seems much bigger compare to panaracer 2.1

Just back from SP Puteri Hill Park Jamboree! 45km, and lots of mud, mud and more mud. Provavly no as technical as Kayuh lasak, but very very argonising... Heavy rain before ride, so the entire track was very sticky. All bikes didn't have enough mud clearance and got stuck for some parts..

My casualty:
1) Jammed rd
2) Clogged fd and rd cables
3) Severely damaged(probable worn off) front brakes
4) Malfunctioned back brakes(jammed and oil leaked again!)
5) Loosed grips(both sides!) Will be getting lock-ons..
6) And a lot of worn off bearings...

As in apparel, u know la, a lot of washing to do... sad.gif

And I think every 1 of 20 riders broke their rd.. One of 6 guys from my group broke his XT and another guy took his Scott 30 carbon with XTR on it's first ride.. Now all scratch. Sakit hati... Another guy suffered major muscle cramp! 3/6 down..What the heck man..

AndyLo,
Holy cow! that's is bad...with mud n chain doesn't mixed well together. it must been h*ll for ya! how many hours you completed the whole thing?

I went to Kajang hash yesterday (28km)..was pretty dry, the trail are in good condition. the only setback was wasted 30-45mins of time finding the right trail to go..casualty only 1 guy fell n had a bad scratch on his legs. bleeding like crazy.

Wah akchang... It seems that lotsa people would get lost or wasted time in these hashes to find the right track to follow...

Yesterday was a surprised that I thought lotsa people would go to the Kajang Hash but at least there were 50 riders in FRIM.. I have not been in FRIM for at least 2-3 weeks and it seems that they have cleared some area... Nice view ...

Had one rider fell off at the snake trail on our finishing ride and he stumbled down at least 10 - 15 feet from his bike... Imagine having at least 10 riders following him behind and all had to jammed our brakes real hard... sweat.gif

I took the picture.. let me see if can upload it later...

I got one question, is mountain biking a richman's sport?
If not why in the 1st page links to shops, the prices for 1 bike can go up to RM10,000??

i just don't get it...i wanted to get me one for legs and cardio training, and with a price tag like that, the only way i'm gonna do my training is just by jogging in the park....

A proton frame would fit right into that description. It all really depends on how you mix and match the parts for the bike. Higher end parts would increase the price while lower end will keep the price down. The bike shops at the front page are the 'big sugar daddy' that really know how to suck every single dollar from your pocket! Lol. I just lost more than RM1k to them for upgrades!! >.< rclxub.gif rclxub.gif But then again, its better to use the money on something that benefits my health than to waste it on something like cyber cafes or drugs or shit like that!

Try heading to www.bicyclebuysell.com to look for a bargain.

Shimano is a good brand which manufactures low end till high end parts.

And it is our proton. Everything has been taken and re-badge so no worries there. Most of the stock parts are reasonable.

Lerun a few years ago, i would not even consider looking at them but they have been bucking up ever since. Would not mind owning one as a starter bike.

And if you get a hang of it or really want to take it further, upgrades are always available.

hey antonio, only been seing you in musician forum. tehehe. MTB isn't a richman's sport. When it comes to rm10k bikes it means ure serious into mtbing for ur hobby. take me for an example. i bought a cheap bike 1st at around rm450. it's a rockbike. it's okay for a while but then u started to want to upgrade. so i buy another bike buy parts by parts. slowly. most of them are second hands. Now the total of my 2nd bike is around rm1k. it's better actually for u 2 buy a bike straightaway as a whole unless you don't have d bux like me aka student life. but i know you can go further. come on look at ur guitar collections man. biggrin.gif tehehe.

before anything measure ur size for the frame!

as i said last time, that full face helmet ain't mine sweat.gif

rm400 rather spend on my gearing system tongue.gif

and i also same...

started at rm400 cheap alu bike then slowly upgrade the brakes and front fork lol...

nx would be my rear hub + 9 speed cassete + Deore LX shifter + 9 speed chain which will cost ard rm400 or less lol... drool.gif

Well I started mtb with my RM200 Lerun rigid, gained experience and trained with it. Den 1 shot get a decent mtb, but sadly now the Lerun is stolen! It's always ok to start with a cheaper bike, better training and more flexibility.

The RS RVL08 already check with my fren.. He say can pay 2 times... Ok loh.. Price almost the same as the RVL07 wan...

Added on July 18, 2007, 11:20 amI started off with a Proton T-Bolt for RM 900 (Installment 2 month with a fren) then upgraded some part bit by bit..

Total spent almost RM3.5K include the bike.. Last upgrade was Alexrims TD16 with Magura Hubs, Magura Julie Hydro and Shimano DX pedal..

Most probably gonna spend another RM2K for the RS RVL and maybe either some XT groupie of SRAM groupie.. drool.gif

The LX setup unable to withstand the downhill every week... doh.gif ekekekek

What ic shall I put? I did thought of adding images, but no idea! My malay language is bad, so kinda hard to put d title.

maybe A LYN image, and say " Member Lowyat MTB tiada batasan!" ?

btw, it's from d translation "What Mountain Bike" to "Apa Beskal Gunung"

Can I know him? Hehe..maybe he can guide me a bit on doiing the photo's frame.

My fren owns a Nomad as well, about 11k, but he has 5 bikes including Cannondale rigid, Jackel, VP-free, and Kona Jikapu. haha! All 5 categories of biking. NUTS! rclxub.gif

Ya..3k can get a very good hardtail bike also already acctually. Try considering the Giant XTC perhaps.. If you use V-brakes, you can save up quite some $ and reduce the weight also.

Yup, all those are decent full setup bikes. After riding and getting the hang of it and most importantly know that u want to continue cycling, thats when you por in the big bucks!
