Yours is an advise and I'm taking it. Much appreciate of this as well..

But for me, F30 is not really that fancy. At least I'm targeting a used 3 series and not a Porche which is ridiculous for my financial condition.

My practice is to own what I'm desiring with the minimal lost, that's it. We are all human and fancy with something is a natural behavior.

Don't take it like owning a BMW is like the world is ending soon. Stay positive. <--- My opinion...

Owning a BMW 3 series isn't the end of the world... If u have extra cash to trow away, sure, go ahead and buy it. I already said it in my 1st post. Your income can maintain a 328i and put it on the road for many years to come.... But the question is, is it worth it just for a BMW 3 series? Imagine, paying so much for a normal bmw... By saving and investing for 2-3 years, maybe u can afford something bigger and more sporty in future. Just sit a normal basic car for now, put your earnings into investments, and use investment earnings to buy a luxury car.. Not saying a bmw 3 series is a luxury car, but with Malaysia tax system, anything more than a Vios is a luxury car...U want to live normally where 3 series is a normal car? go to Australia, UK or US...

You're just sounds like talking about million dollar of price. loll.. just few K only la...

few K here and there... adds up. This is what people don't see. For the same job in a myvi/vios.. it just takes a few hundred...

Noted. Will take your advise into consideration. My initial plan is to use my rental income to cover the installment, so technically I just need to take out the down payment from pocket, and driving it for "free". Maintenance and insurance is not a big issue for me. Again, I'm posting this to ask for math, a rough idea of total cost that would need to bear. Not here to argue or disagree with the advises, but I feel annoyed by the monkey with his first quote.

i guess is normal for human to advise against mistakes that they have gone trough when they were younger...

The math for owning 3 series bmw 328i?

calculate what tyre size and brand u would want to run on. Imagine 18inch, and michelin tire.. easily gonna cost u 4-5k. and will last 1-2 year depend on your driving style.

estimate about 3-4k cash for emergency fund that u have to top up once it is gone.

another 3-5k for insurance and roadtax.

total 1 year, u gonna spend about 9k if u no need to touch emergency fund, 15k or more if u need to repair somethin. This is not yet including installment and depreciation. That is rough cost... 15K a year. go tank it if uwant. laugh.gif

even for my 2013 polo gti, i am tanking about 5k a year just for service and tayar alone... Soon the car will be old and unreliable, and for me to keep it on the road, it is no longer 5k a year, it will go up maybe to 6-8k a year....

For those who is advising him to just take a Myvi or say "You cannot afford" it. Just shut the fcuk up. This is a BMW discussion. If you yourself wanted a Myvi, you go get a Myvi. He wants a BMW not a fcuking hatchback.

Let him decide himself whether he can afford it or not.
He is not borrowing your money so why for fuck sakes are you discouraging him. Jealous because he can and you can't? It's his money he is acquiring (or burning for those who reallt wanna say it).

I can't think of any other reason why should one discourage him. Okay. So what if he didn't buy it in the end because of your endless discouragement ? Will you win the bet? Happy that he didn't get his BMW?

For some which says YOLO. Yes..you only live once and you can't turn back time. Do it while you can.
The reward is there. So yes. Do it..YOLO.

This is my personal opinion.

sometimes owning it is not the issue. mostly maintaining it, knowing you have to pay installment even for the months the car was hanging on the workshop lift and waiting for parts. uneasy at how ridiculously expensive something can be.

lol.. i've calculated, you need at least RM5k set aside to own something of that caliber, that is including purata rate of insurance money, roadtax, tires and other misc.

i've got friends who toy with porsche and mclaren and only daily/go to work in an alza. i kena lectured by him last time when i wanted to buy a 320d last time, he asked, if the 320d can earn you money then go ahead. in the end i settle with myvi, low commitment, 5 years warranty, start everytime i need to drive it.

tbh, 50k is nothing, i sunk 50k on a car that worth 5k in the market last year and i doesnt even drive it on the road and it is still sitting demanding another 50k now. my hobby.

good luck TS. biggrin.gif

TS if you indeed buy a BMW please drive responsibly. Ive seen a lot of youngsters drive like a jackass on the road endangering the rest the commuters. Tengs.

Even uncles and those in their 40s in BMWs can sometimes be a jackass. And believe me they like to bully those in smaller cars, but not those in bigger or same size as them.

Especially when you are in a bigger car and show them "who is da boss". Pickup trucks are good in scaring off these wannabe.

nothing fancy, it is just a proton prepared for leisure use in Sepang.

The aforementioned car is 3 times more expensive to run each month as compared to my daily 3rd gen myvi, and i drove it less than 2 times and less 5 hours a month laugh.gif always kept in either workshop or friend's warehouse

That is more or less the figure you're looking at, most MCS (Malaysia Championship Series) racecar have a budget of more or less RM150k exclude car value, mine is just small fry. wink.gif
