android 5, android 7 both hv several firmwares, better speak in terms of firmware version.

If u r on version 1.x, install 2.0.4 first,
Use pin reset method to completely move to and7.

Then, u install latest 2.0.9 or 2.1.0.

All firmwares available at futeko or himedia support page.
Himedia page, u find only 2.0.4 and 2.0.9 which are what u need.
2.1.0 is not there yet but has no major change.

Thanks for the advice, but seriously, I tried looking for Himedia Support page with firmwares, cannot find, or maybe I using mobile browser.
Anyway, I will follow the steps using Futeko.

If no response here, suggest u ask at futeko forum. Some big NAS users there.

if u dun already know... q10pro, q5pro... astrogo, unifi playtv apps.

.. for firmware 2.0.8 and later.

.. astrogo v8.2.6... this app is fully compatible with the box.. u install the official version from playstore, it will auto update if new version available.

.. unifi playtv.. this is compatible with box although u will not find the right version in playstore.
find it in apkpure v 7.9.2:
https://apkpure.com/playtv-unifi-tablet/com.huawei.pad.tm
install this version, it will overwrite any previous version installed... but id/pw will be preserved, no need to key in again.

as reliable free HD livetv apps come under pressure, these 2 legit apps are becoming more valuable.

use them!

updates, gotten NFS to work (thanks to avfan lea at futeko)
but still got hanging, but not as serious as SMB
tested a file at 45mb bitrate, stuck at 2 minutes, then subsequently ok for the remaining minutes
tested another file at 66mb. DTS demo bdmv, was stuck for a little while too
the rest normal 20+mb bitrate files, seems to work perfectly normal

is there anyway to get the q10 to display menus like the actual bluray??
like watching concert , it would show track names instead of minutes

imo, the stuttering with high bit rate videos is likely due to some bottleneck in the networking hardware - u gotta check that.
becos if u play a bdmv direct via usb, it is 100% fine.

full bdmv menu is available.
but only if u use the native player.
and u must hv the "bluray apk" installed and active - do check that.
if all is in good order, when u click on a bdmv folder whether at native file manager or media center, u will asked to select bd lite or bd full menu.
selecting bd lite will play the main video rightaway.
selecting bd full will take u to the full bd menu.

no idea how to check tat hardware issue hahah

iinm, im currently using the native player, it shows the bluray icon in front of the file, instead of a normal folder icon when it reads its a bdmv or perhaps ISO
which I think its a very nice feature

will tryout the bluray apk then

really tempted to get another unit of this hahahhahaahha

Bdmv or iso bd full menu is among the best features u get with this box.

With the audio capabilities, it is a critical feature for ardent users of bdmv and hd audio, 1080p or 2160p.

Anyone using custom firmware instead of the official firmware?

As you all know, I'm gonna purchase himedia pro series again...i sold in the first place partially due to the missing sub lines. So wondering the custom firmware is better...

Futeko forum mentioned firmware 2.0.6 is the last proper subs firmware...

correct about the 2.0.6-subs thingy... i remember.

SRT and some embedded subs affected... for these, i fall back on mx pro which does it correctly.

bdmvs and higher grade rips not affected... so, ok for me since i use these most.

never tried CFW but had tried androidtv firmware - not much use now as OFW 2.0.8 onwards took care of some apps compatibilty issues.

moreover, androidtv firmware does not work well with kodi 17.6 for audio passthru.

10 out 16gb... not very efficient! biggrin.gif

i hv a bunch of portable and sata drives, total 17gb or so... pretty much all is usable.

one goes thru changes in terms of personal collection.... over time, poor files will be junked.

only the highest grades are kept with perhaps some lower grade but highly sentimental and hard to replace older stuff.

2160p vs 1080p... good question.

my exp is if yr tv has good upscaling and the box player is good, 1080p BDMVs will come out excellent.

to me eyes, the primary diff is bdmv 2160p does a better job in the "blacker blacks and whiter whites" and in the color depths - HDR effect.

picture clarity may not be too noticeable depending on yr viewing distance.

audio... yes... i am quite particular about it.

even for non blockbusters, i now tend towards BDMV so as to enjoy the HD audio.

tv shows... always go for DD+, nothing less! tongue.gif

Yes I want all all full menu with full audio output Dolby Atmos and Dolby Digital MA 7.1 so that I can fully utilize my my home theater setup.
WiFi not required since I mostly stream 4K via gigabit Ethernet and i was told that if I use WiFi it will eat up my WiFi bandwidth. USB also not much of an issue as I hook up to my own plex server via gigabit Ethernet. Audio output would have to be in the highest format of the 4k.
Apps using would be Netflix (I have a premium account), kodi (currently using on mibox 3S mainly for icdrama), plex and VLC (mainly to stream my own server). Plex is unable to load BDMV and iso files, thus I have to manually use makemkv to convert them into mkv so it appear on plex.

now that i understand yr prime requirements, i will say...
.. there aren't many players that can do full bd menu; those which do, use their own proprietory player app and not generic player apps like vlc or mx.
.. there r other boxes that can play BDMV/atmos/dtsx but u need to navigate to the main file to play... however, will not get full menu.
.. converting bdmv to mkv is an outrageously tedious and inefficient task... u just need to find the right player(s), they exist.
.. afaik, only certain models from himedia, ziddo and egreat can do 2160p full BDMV menu; there may be others which i don't know.

i m not sure if there is a zidoo thread?

anyway, i repost yr question in himedia thread as there are atmos/dtsx, bdmv, zidoo users active there to comment further if u wish to know.
*
i repost yr question here so that anfieldude can comment on atmos/dtsx... and OPT to comment on zidoo box.

i myself am a big fan of 1080p/2160p BDMVs and HD audio! biggrin.gif

Q10 pro can output Atmos and DTS X as required.

QUOTE(OPT @ Nov 27 2018, 11:54 PM)
Ok...so, after a couple of months using Zidoo X9S, looks like the general consensus in the household is Himedia is overall easier to use...
Personally I'd prefer zidoo for the picture quality, and Home Theater 2.0, but I've to agree interface wise, Himedia better...
So, will be on the lookout for a new Himedia on sale soon...hopefully 12.12 ada offer biggrin.gif

The Himedia q10 pro has no problems playing BD and UHD iso and bdmv structure with full menu and bitstream of DTSX and Dolby Atmos.

could I dl the bluray.apk directly on the q10 itself? or I need to dl and thumb drive it to the q10?

btw, does dtsx and atmos have any difference?
I'm using 3 front speakers and 4 ceiling speakers, should I go dtsx or atmos?

bluray.apk is to be installed like any other app.

if u get it from pc, of course u place it in usb first.

once u install and activate, it stays there, even if u update firmware later.
