I also considering mibox S malaysia (official). I just need a budget player who can play most of the file including H.265 file.

My old trusty ac ryan media player is working fine but the product is EOL and no more firmware update to H.265...my wife is using most of the time.
*
i am ex-AC Ryan user too, but moved on to other boxes a few years ago.

mibox S is a good choice if u need a box to do Netflix HD and your TV doesn't hv Netflix.

for playback, there are a thousand boxes u can buy in the rm100-300 range, e.g.:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4722095/+300
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4044338/+1180
all these low price boxes can playback simple small videos.
some very smooth, some a little less so; depends on the file type.
some can do surround 5.1 audio, some can only do 2.0 stereo.
the reason for such differences is that pure media players like ac ryan and WDLive have gone extinct.
the new wave is OTT online streaming, hence the many many boxes.
the focus is not on playback but online streaming; focus is not on audio but video.
only the more costly boxes can do both streaming and playback well, video and audio.

no need to spend RM500-600 if u just need a simple box media player.
but if u r planning to move up to bigger n better ones incl BDMV's and lossless audio, u will need something like Q10pro.

futeko is reporting a new himedia model coming soon, the Q100, 21 August 2019.

from the info available, Q100 appears to be an upgrade from Q30 (2 years old) but a downgrade from Q10pro (3 yrs old).

it uses Hi3798MV200 chipset like the Q30 but may be new revision but is unlike the Hi3798CV200 in Q10pro.

it has 2+32 GB, an internal HDD bay for up to 12TB.

besides the same Imprex2 engine it also has a HiVXE image processor.

has the std audio passthru for lossless audio dtshdma, ddtrued; unclear about dtsx, atmos.

playback menu may be limited to just BD lite w/o the full BD menu.

gigabit ethernet port but only N wifi.

for what it is likely capable or incapable compared to Q10pro, i hope the local price will be <rm500.

i will be interested!

I don't understand their product & market strategy of coming up with this low outdated spec doh.gif

yep, this is more of a downgrade from Q10pro, being launched now, albeit w/o noise.

however, there is some news of another model, capable of 8K - coming October.

we'll see...

astrogo users:

current astro go version is v2.192.5/AC/9.2.5/2313a43 dated 8 Aug 2019.

u can get update direct from box playstore.

or get here:
https://apkpure.com/astro-go-watch-tv-shows...com.astro.astro

this one has a bug fixed - video and audio are now sync-ed correctly for live HD channels.

and i seem to see an improved video... improved colors and clarity... perhaps bit rate been raised...

Hi, fellow specialists.

My Q10 II suddenly cannot function. It starts to boot, showing white "HIMEDIA" wording then go blank.

Could it be the firmware problem, or something else?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.
*
this model must be 7-8 yrs old...?

if not mistaken, it is android 4.2, dual core, the big brother of Q5II.

if it doesn't boot properly, no choice but to reset with the pin hole button method - u will lose all apps, need reinstall.

frankly, i suggest u retire this box as it is quite obsolete... many new apps don't work, gets v sluggish, no bluray menu, etc.

a natural replacement would be the Q10pro or the coming Q100.

either model, u can reuse the sata HDD.

You are correct. It is android 4.2 and dual core version. I bought it in Jan 2015.

Generally, I only use it to watch US TV series through BT download via USB thumb drive streaming. 2 hours a day max, it was working fine until recently.

I tried to re-set, but Droid Robot showed " system error ". I think maybe my version of firmware update is not the correct version.

Just check with you, where can I possibly find the right firmware for this model? Want to give it a last try before I surrender.
Thank you again.
*
i have seen this "system error"... does pop up sometimes. try it again, try several times.
do it right - unplug power, push pin into pinhole, hold, on power+remote... until u see message "updating...".

Q10II, if similar to Q5II, wud have non-emmc and emmc models... and need google patch too to work.
i do not know where u can find the right files for yr model, but u can check with the seller in this thread:
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2807510/+1080#bottom

if u primarily use it for local playback, this box can still work nicely for lower/mid files.
only when u play the 4k, 10bit, full bluray files will it not work properly.

ops, sorry.

I referred to China version, similar to Q5pro.

Same Hi-Silicon CPU/GPU, Hi3798CV200/Mali-T720.
2GRAM, but has 16G emmc5.0 ROM.

Does Q5 Pro really support Google Playstore?
*
that is a china domestic model.

the chipset is the same as q5pro/q10pro but i do not know if the firmware and native player is same or similar or diff altogether.

i think i read somewhere that the china model does NOT have hd audio pass through capability, but not entirely sure.

so, u gotta try n see.

for int'l models, they can do all the audios - dd, dd+, ddtruehd, ddatmos, dts, dtshdma, dtsx.

as for google, china domestic market sets will not have them becos google/youtube/chrome is prohibited there.

only int'l models have them, they work fine.

Just changed my TV to a 4K model. But it shows that is receiving 1080p signal from my Q10 Pro eventhough the content I am playing is 2160p HVEC file. I am using an unknown HDMI cable brand connected directly from Q10 to the 4K TV without going through any AVR.

What could be the problem? Is it due to my TV settings or Himedia settings?

Thank you.
*
check box display settings.

cable usually not a problem.

Thanks. What is the correct settings I should used?
*
2 considerations:

1. what do u usually watch with the box-TV?
if mostly 2160p hevc playback, set to 2160p 24hz as this is most common.

if mostly 1080p playback and other apps... best to set to 1080p 50hz... becos most live streams are in 25hz, some 30hz.
if yr firmware is up to date (2.1.4), it does auto frame switching; so this part is actually taken care of.
only that it is annoying to see the messages flashing on the tv every time there is a hz change when u change a video stream.

2. how good is yr TV upscaling?
if v good, u might want to set to 1080p for 1080p/lower streams, let TV upscale.
the box can be set to 2160p to upscale too but it may come out not as good on yr tv - this u gotta try and see.

hi guys, Q10pro able to support 4k HDR and DV, right? i assume no issue on DA and DTS-X as well, right? but i heard some one said Q10 only able to support 8bit HDR but not 10bit HDR, is that true? thank you
*
4k HDR 10bit - yes.
DV - no - DV does not licensed too many products.
Atmos, DTSX - yes.

u may also want to know it has auto framerate switching and can do full BDMV menus (access "extras, the making"), etc.

what will happen if i play a 4k DA file (example >80G 4k bluray files)? connection from this box -> receiver with DV -> TV with DA
*
before i attempt to answer, can u confirm the DA and DV are written correctly for each piece?

the receiver with DV would have DA, yr speakers set up for DA too?

that was due to come confusion from himedia during the launch.

it has since been changed, no DV.

i ran some tests with below files on my equipment... 4k HDR (non Dolby vision) tv, 4k HDR (non-Atmos AVR).

Q10pro (hdmi 2.0a) deliver HDR10, DDTrueHD - expected. Not blank screen or broken audio.

below explanation says it all. and i am quite sure Atmos works the same way - a layer of meta data on top of DD+ or DDtrueHD.

QUOTE
A Dolby Vision title is encoded in 12-bit PQ (PQ: Perceptual Quantizer SMPTE ST2084 EOTF).
At the encoder stage level, the Dolby Vision signal is splitted into a base layer and an enhancement layer:
. Base layer = SDR or HDR10
. Enhancement layer = (12bit Dolby Vision – SDR) or (12bit Dolby Vision – 10bit HDR10)
Dolby Vision base layer and Dolby Vision enhancement layer are encoded by standard encoders like the 10-bit HEVC encoder.

At the decoder stage level (i.e., at the Q10 Pro), the 12-bit Dolby Vision is recombined.
12-bit Dolby Vision = base layer + enhancement layer (+ metadata)
This is carried out by the HiSilicon Hi3798C V200 SoC of the Q10 Pro.
http://armdevices.net/?s=dolby+vision+

At the TV stage level, the 12-bit Dolby Vision video signal (i.e., EDR Video + EDR Metadata) is processed by a Dolby Vision Display Management.
The Dolby Vision display manager is tuned for the target TV: it knows the maximum and minimum brightness, color gamut, and other characteristics. Metadata that accompanies the 12-bit Dolby Vision video signal carries information about the original system used to grade the content and any special information about the signal. Using this metadata, the Dolby Vision display manager intelligently transforms the 12-bit signal to produce the best possible output on the target TV with a 10-bit / 10-bit dither / 12-bit panel.
10-bit panel rendering < 10-bit dither panel rendering < 12-bit panel rendering
https://www.futeko.com/newforum/index.php?t...msg4844#msg4844

if u r shopping for a new TV, and i think u r... get a copy of some of those files on thumbdrive/HDD, take it to test on the shop TV USB playback.
those files work fine on my TV direct usb playback, get 4k HDR as expected.
my understanding is the TV need to be HDCP2.2, hdmi 2.0a compliant to deliver HDR10 and DV (need license).
need hmdi 2.0b for HLG.
many 4kHDR tv's cost rm3-4K, no DV... some people even say they are "fake"... u can shop for those 8-10K, i guess. biggrin.gif
latest hdmi2.1 with much higher bandwidth will take care of everything... sure.. if u have the $$$ to replace everything!
it's all about $$$... how fat yr wallet is for avantgarde tech.

I downloaded a LG promotional DV video from https://4kmedia.org/tag/dolby-vision/

Black screen only but can receive audio.

When connected to my TV directly, the DV file plays without any issue.
*
i tried one of those.
the problem is not about HDR or DV.
it is the file format in .ts in hevc, could be specifically made for LG tv player.
somehow it doesn't work on Q10pro.

the ones i tried are in .m2ts (bluray disc), good for all players and TVs.
UHD Bluray discs files are in .m2ts format.
