Totti ready for Super Cup
Saturday 23 August, 2008 Francesco Totti is in the Roma squad travelling to San Siro for tomorrow’s Italian Super Cup clash with Inter. The captain had always stated he wanted to be back in action for the match that officially opens the Italian season. Although he has appeared in a 1-0 friendly win over Serie B side Frosinone on August 14, Coach Luciano Spalletti insisted the chances of seeing Totti in the big game were slim. Er Pupone has made a remarkable recovery from a devastating injury he sustained during the 1-1 draw with Livorno on April 19. He severed the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and was expected to be out for around five months, but has managed to speed up the process. It is highly unlikely Totti will start at San Siro, but an appearance as a substitute is not out of the question. Julio Baptista is set for his debut in a Roma jersey, while new buys John Arne Riise and Simone Loria are also in the 22-man squad. The Italian Super Cup is the peninsula’s version of the Community Shield, where Coppa Italia winners Roma take on Scudetto holders Inter. It will be the third year running that these two teams have met for the trophy. In 2006 the Nerazzurri fought back for a dramatic 4-3 victory in extra time, while last year Roma ran out 1-0 winners. Roma squad: Andreolli, Aquilani, Artur, Baptista, Brighi, Cassetti, De Rossi, Doni, Esposito, Juan, Loria, Mexes, Montella, Okaka, Panucci, Perrotta, Pipolo, Pizarro, Riise, Tonetto, Totti, Vucinic. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/aug23h.html |

ah we lost the SuperCoppa thru penalty shootout... too bad.
it was an entertaining game actually with the score of normal time 2-2, but its really unfortunate for Totti to missed the match-winning spot kick... meh, how come il Capitano had become so unreliable in PK ? overall team performance was not bad, Riise played well, Baptista was ok for me, but clearly we still missing some pieces. still a week of transfer window, lets hope. anyway, Forza Roma ! |

QUOTE Mexican ace Nery Castillo is reportedly close to agreeing terms with Roma but the Giallorossi will have to start talks with Shakthar Donetsk first. finally...Castillo is currently on loan at Manchester City but the player has expressed a desire to join the Giallorossi. According to some Italian reports the two parties are in advanced negotiations. “We will meet up during the week. At the moment we haven’t decided the exact dates and I am waiting for a call from Daniele Pradè,” said Castillo’s agent Gianluca Marino. “Roma have more than one target and Castillo could be one of those. Daniele was talking with Luciano Spalletti regarding the technical qualities of the player and then we will discuss the financial side of the deal.” According to Marino Shakhtar are willing to sell the player and an agreement could be found shortly. “They want to sell him and it wouldn’t take much to find an agreement if Roma were serious about him.” A few days ago Castillo was close to Real Betis but the player, who is really excited at the prospective of playing at the Olimpico alongside Francesco Totti, has decided to stop the transfer. “The Spaniards are waiting but Nery said he wants to play in Italy. He wants the Giallorossi because they are a prestigious side and because he thinks he would fit in well in Spalletti’s formation. “Now he is waiting for Roma. There is not much time left, one week before the end of the transfer window, but in the next 24-48 hours we should have everything clear,” he concluded. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/aug25l.html |

SuperCoppa highlights... nice rocket by DDR.
QUOTE(-Y- @ Aug 26 2008, 12:18 AM) roma was interested in crespo if im not mistaken. so, how bout it? crespo is a great player.. he played brilliant football in serie a.. there were never any reliable sources that said we really wan him. well he's getting old anyway, not to mention he was a Laziele.as for Castillo... i believe he signed for Real Betis already. now it seem that our most probably new guy will be Suazo. reports said that we agreed terms with him, now we hav to work it out with Inter. Jeremy Menez remains as an option, but looks like Monaco is asking big bucks from us. |

Totti rues penalty miss
Tuesday 26 August, 2008 Francesco Totti has admitted his frustration at missing a chance to win the Italian Super Cup from the penalty spot. Roma's inspirational captain struck the bar with a spot-kick that would have clinched the annual curtain raiser and had to watch as Inter turned things around to lift the silverware. It was an important psychological boost for Jose Mourinho's men ahead of the start of the Serie A season and one that annoyed Totti. “We have already gifted two Super Cups to Inter, even if the first was even more dramatic in 2006 when we threw away a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3,” Totti told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “It was a real shame to miss the penalty like that because it had all seemed like the 2006 World Cup against Australia. “I came on as a substitute and had a penalty that could decide the game. It all seemed written for me, like a film. “I had a thousand thoughts in my head and I wondered whether to change the usual angle that I hit penalties at. “I was asking myself whether to hit in with the inside of my foot and not to strike it too fully but it went too high anyway. “It was such a pity because I had prepared a hundred dedications and celebrations.” However, Totti was able to see the silver lining after a positive performance at San Siro. “I think we managed to express ourselves from the second half onwards and it was a good starting point ahead of the first game of the season against Napoli,” he said. “There can be no false start, we must win the first game of the season.” http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_italia/aug26d.html |

Roma close in on Monaco starlet Menez
Updated: August 27, 2008, 12:03 PM UK Monaco coach Ricardo admits star forward Jeremy Menez could complete his move to Serie A side Roma in the next few days. Menez has been courted for some time by the Italian club, who may have to shell out more than 15 million euros to secure the 21-year-old's signature. But Ricardo is facing up to the fact the France hopeful, who is under contract at the principality club until the summer of 2010, is on the verge of leaving. 'There is a strong probability that the affair will sort itself out before the end of the week,' the Brazilian is quoted as saying in L'Equipe. Ricardo has already seen striker Frederic Piquionne depart this summer. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id...=europe&cc=4716 |
