You should try gigabit switch or smart switch. Not neccesary to buy a AC88U for all the home devices, PC and CCTV. Mine is RT-AC86U only 4 ports but link with a 16-port gigabit switch to connect with 2 routers, a 5-port gigabit switch, smart TV, receiver, CCTV, alarm, 2 desktop PCs, PS4 console. All by LAN cable connections.

RMB699 so cheap? Because it is in China..... When import to Malaysia by Huawei Malaysia, duty/taxes will be incurred and so warranty fee was factored in. NO free meal in this world.

Makan semut ke? You kept asking the same question over the past few months
And all your questions has already been answered

Make it simple, you want cheap, buy from Taobao but you can forget about warranty claims
You want official warranty, buy from local supplier at a higher price

I bought the double fan kit via shopee, around RM30+. Cpu temp goes down from 80degC to 54/56degC

so after 5 months, my AC86U just died on me.

Can't even turn on the router. No LED light up at all. Power supply unit is working fine as USB fan attached to the router can still run. Tried connecting via LAN but no response. Tried resetting using Reset button & other methods still wont work.

No choice but to RMA back to China.

anyway, have been using fans (blowing in) since day 1 with temperature never exceeding 60Celcius.

Nothing to do with thunder..was watching smart tv at noon (not raining, sunny weather) when suddenly wifi connection dropped. Checked the router & only LAN 4 LED lights up (very dim). All my devices are powered through Belkin surge protection by the way.

Swapped with original asus power supply unit still no improvement. Both power supply unit are working fine as fan connected to router USB port can still run.

This was the same symptom when i had my ac86u. The router just died. Only LAN 4 LED lighted dimly. LAN 4 was connected to Hypptv STB with 5E cable. Has it got anything to do with the STB?

Have you tried this to recover:

If the router fails to start properly (this method uses a router bootloader function and shall work as long as there is no hardware fault):

Turn off the router.
Press and hold the WPS button.
Turn on the router.
Wait about 10 seconds.
Release the WPS button.

My unit from China also failed about 5 months old only. Bought it during the Single's Day sale. One day I came home and discovered the router had no illuminated lights and couldnt power up anymore. Prior to that, 2 weeks before it went bust, my Lan 1 port was not functioning. Already sent it back to China for warranty claim to the seller and hopefully Asus China can replace it.
