My unit from China also failed about 5 months old only. Bought it during the Single's Day sale. One day I came home and discovered the router had no illuminated lights and couldnt power up anymore. Prior to that, 2 weeks before it went bust, my Lan 1 port was not functioning.  Already sent it back to China for warranty claim to the seller and hopefully Asus China can replace it.

Just got a quotation from Poslaju, RM70 to send the whole unit to China via Air Parcel, RM280+ if via EMS.

Which one did you choose? Also, poslaju customer service also mentioned China customs do not accept any parcel containing electronic..so no choice but to declare the modem as something else?

I sent back to China using Pos Malaysia Air Parcel inclusive with tracking which costs me RM51. Managed to reach my seller within 2 weeks. I declared my package as modem too. Be sure to contact your seller prior to returning the router first.

so after 5 months, my AC86U just died on me.
Can't even turn on the router. No LED light up at all. Power supply unit is working fine as USB fan attached to the router can still run. Tried connecting via LAN but no response. Tried resetting using Reset button & other methods still wont work.
No choice but to RMA back to China.
anyway, have been using fans (blowing in) since day 1 with temperature never exceeding 60Celcius.

Buy from local store lah, even it is more expensive worth every ringgit you spent.
This router very good for setting up vpn router, update the firmware with vpn provider's firmware, very secure.
You can have many devices...computer, laptop, smartphone, smart TVs..etc.... can use vpn.

My RT-AC86U was bought at 24 Sept 2018. Considered it start using it from October 2018 until now. Already 7 months of usage, so far so good. Don't know why you guys Asus router bought from China got so much problems and need to send back to China for RMA?

Did your people attach fans on your RT-AC86U? If no then better do it now.

I was noticed that the 3M tape can't attach the two fans firmly on my router. So I just hang the two fans with wires and tie up the wires around the antennas.

Do you understand the concept of manufacturing fault?
A few units in the manufacturing batches may become faulty, this happens to all manufacturers

There is no way to produce a 100% perfect product for every single unit

This is depends on how and where did they put their router. Since Malaysia here has hot weather unlike China. China is -20'c ~ 20'c between very cold to cool weather country. That's why I say the manner on how do you treat your router. Also how is your house environment? Dirty? Dusty? Hot until 34'c? No aircond?

I also saw many of you, your BTU and router are dirty until like 10 years never wipe out the dust. That's what I describe as a rude user.

It has nothing to do with cooling
Read through this topic and you will see that 2 out 3 users in here with a dead AC86U does use fans on their routers but their routers still end up dead

Again, it has nothing to do with cooling, it's a manufacturing fault. Read what I said earlier, there is no way to get 100% quality on every unit

I am using AC86U from China as well, without fan. When I touch the back of the router, I didn't feel hot.

Did anyone feel really hot at the back of the router? Thank you

Install Merlin firmware then you will be able to see the temperature of the router's CPU
