Been using China set RT-AC86U for 2 months, everything are working fine, router is very stable, no disconnecting.

What about AC86U vs AC88U ?

I put router inside tv cabinet so its rather short height and AC86U need to stand right? Now even current RT66N antenna also cant put up straight, need to bend abit to fit.

RT-AC87U is using the same processor with RT-AC68U
Broadcom 4708 & 4709 is the same processor, just different clock speeds, from which they are known for high operating temperatures
Nothing to worry about as Broadcom 4708 & 4709 Tj. Max is 130°C

However, I'm the type who believes electronics would run better & last longer if they are a bit cooler
That's why I previously said RT-AC86U definitely doesn't need extra cooling, but I'd still do it anyway as I want the router to last long
RT-AC86U is better because of faster CPU & bigger flash memory
RT-AC88U only wins in terms of more gigabit ethernet ports and it's 2.4GHz MIMO 4X4 whereas RT-AC86U only has 4 gigabit ethernet ports & it's 2.4GHz only supports MIMO 3X3
But who uses 2.4GHz at 4X4 anyway?
**RT-AC86U 5GHz supports 4X4 MIMO. Only it's 2.4GHz runs on 3X3 MIMO
Too cramp wei, find another place to put la, router placement is very crucial in order to make it run without any instability issues caused by overheating

totally fine, my AC86U is running at 92C for CPU.

Ordered new fan, but haven arrived yet.

Too lazy to take off my old fan from my AC68U

92°C is quite hot for RT-AC86U without fan
My RT-AC86U without fan runs at only 70°C ~ 72°C

Where did you put your router LOL

open area but no air ventilation,

put in beside my Nas and also the Huawei ONU

Received yesterday...... just had the time to unbox it.

my fan did arrived.

Hang 2 of the fan onto the middle antenna and the temp dropped from 92C to 67C like that

Just received mine today too. Total damage RM565 including shipping + 10% agent service fee..price bought was 789 RMB..

kinda late to the party since was waiting confirmation for fan free gift from asus..was told free gifts only for first 500, and finished 55 seconds after 12am

router just updated to latest firmware, wireless region changed to Australia as mentioned by sHawTY, cooler master fan delivered..only pending to buy UK plug..

wondering what else to check for this beast

I tot you said region to aus? Haha. My current setup ac86u as main then repeater use ac68u on 5ghz. Speedtest can get 100 mbps on local and 15mbps on us region but netflix thru us region cant get thru. But somehow speed test consistent can get the speed.

Let try aimesh with 1 pairs ac86u.

No, I'm very happy with the GT-AC5300
It's just that I really prefer using Merlin firmware instead of official ASUS firmware
I already use RT-AC86U before switching to GT-AC5300, not downgrading

No different about the wifi region, you does not need to change region too actually. Just keep in China as default also no different. Just the 5GHz channels selections different only. Wifi is still the same thing.
