Spec wise I think is better than AC86U, as you can do a comparison from Asus website.

My main reason are :

- better spec (more ram)
- wider coverage (my personal perspective, cause got more antennas)
- more LAN port, even now I only use it for 1 IPTV, but might include Unifi STB in future.
- not a network expert, so setup 1 router would be easier for me, instead of having few routers...

Are you sure this GT-AC5300 is 5 years old model? Or is it RT-AC5300?

Oh, is ok... I'm even longer than you. In fact I'm still using the stock router which TM gave me. TP-Link AC1200, which I got it during my RYE 100 upgrade.

I seldom buy directly from taobao ever since got lazada/shopee...

I bought mine from Official Asus Tmall store, at 1st I thought how come all the routers sold there are out of stocks... Until I spoke with their CS, only know that if the delivery address is Malaysia, their system will show out of stock. So I change it to my forwarder address, immediately can see the remaining stocks from them...

And the seller told me the reason is because Malaysia restricted direct buying router from taobao, not sure whether is all brand or just Asus... Also claim that if direct shipping, mostly will be held by custom... Thats why I don't dare to use direct shipping even other sellers do provide it~
