Buy Blizzcon 2008 sc2 beta key from e-bay. Average price is $200.
The reason i still haven't bought yet is I'm afraid of scammer. I'm thinking, my odds is 50%, ship it or not......

Do you think those care about legality? It's not like they need to give their personal information for a particular beta key, so... yeah, they won't give a damn because out there, they know someone are soooooo desperate for the beta key.

Selling keys is not illegal as long as they get their keys legally, eg. through a promotion etc. So yes, aku dah bangun...

should have gone read the aggrement 1st..... if they mention those key are property of blizzard then they hav no rights to sell, if no then otherwise~

The key on the Blizzcon card is not the real beta key. Its the key that will guarantee you sc2 beta key from Blizzard. Once used, the key cannot be used by other party. You will only receive the real beta key when blizzard announce beta, provided that you enter Blizzcon key.

Most people who went to Blizzcon 2008 are fat WoWnerd who dont give shit about Starcraft 2. Can you imagine 10000 of those at the hands of WoWnerds. Most of them will only take that stupid Polar Bear mount key and throw sc2 beta key.

Btw.... people buy RA3 beta key?

The beta key is from the Blizzcon 2008 goody bags. Once scratched it'll reveal 2 set of keys.
One for Starcraft 2 beta and another one for WotLK Polar Bear mount.

RtP|DEV have the right answer for your question It's a goodie pack, it's up to you what you want to do with it.

Technically selling keys is illegal since the keys are property of Blizzard. It's a bit grey on the retail key aspect(but keys are non transferable...even retail games)...but beta keys are downright illegal and unethical. Beta keys are FREE...getting in the BETA is FREE...no one paid any amount of money for it(other than the blizzcon tickets). Profiting from it is illegal because it is not allowed to be resold.

Selling something that you got for free is lame...Seriously...I know a lot of people are stupid enough to purchase this...the hardcore fans promote such lame ass scams..

BTW...who wants to buy my WiC demo disk?...it gets you one week of online multiplayer...no map limits. Im selling for 30 bucks...

PS : Sigh...I know...it just can't be stopped...it happens now for SC2...and it will happen in the future for other stuff..

Well technically no since I bought WiC last time...but the demo disk comes with it...the point is...paying for betas is ridiculous..paying for keys is pathetic..

Look at it this way...those that got the keys for free...why don't they give it away for free too? if they are not interested? But they had to sell if and profit from it...Blizzard gets no cut of the profit for something they gave away as goodwill.

Your case is the same. To get the beta key(s), one must attend and pay for Blizzcon ticket like you must pay for WiC to get the demo disk, you bought the game and the demo disk is a freebie that come with the game, another example is you bought a TV, and you got a DVD player, can't you sell it? What's differentiate you from the other? Blizzard get their cut from the tickets, if not, there's no need to give the key(s) away at Blizzcon, just put it up at their site that the key(s) will be given to, let say, 5000 first visitor that register for it?

Do you know that Gamespot and IGN already employ that pay-for-betas scheme a long time ago? Probably you can shout at Gamespot and IGN too

I don't know Gamespot and IGN employs pay for betas scheme...and yes that is stupid...Do you know why they do it? Because fans are stupid enough to pay money for it...unfortunately...

And no...I wouldn't sell my WiC demo DVD...(I gave it away to the guy that bought the entire package from me...no extra charge). If I didn't...I would have given it away for free if anyone was interested...Blizzard gets a cut from the sales of tickets...not the sales of the beta keys..

DVD player different lah...WHen you get it's yours...Beta keys different...when you get it you still need to get BLIZZARDs beta client later...which you do not own....Blizzard owns Starcraft 2 and the beta...When you buy a DVD player(or get it for free) it is already yours...Sony or Samsung cannot come knocking on your house and asking it back right? lol

Well Blizzcon ticket cost $100, if you include travel cost, the price tag is justified.

Who are you to tell people that buying beta keys are ridiculous and pathetic? People perceive value differently. Take painting for example, the price is justified no matter how much it cost as long as people are willing to pay for it. I can say those overclockers buying expensive pc gadget without even planning to use it to it's maximum capability are stupid. But who am i to tell them what to do with their money?

Its the same for Starcraft 2, some people want to participate in the game development. So far Blizzard said nothing about the ticket being sold on e-bay. Selling sc2 beta keys means transferring rights to participate in beta test. If someone offered me between sc2 beta and 5 retail version of latest game, i would pick sc2 beta any day. That how i perceive the value of sc2 beta.

as RtP|DEV said, you're transferring the right to participate in the beta, by selling the key, Blizzard doesn't lose a beta tester because it's still there, just people who owned the key are changed. That's why I said earlier, Blizzard doesn't even take personal information of everyone attending the Blizzcon, so how's they gonna track who's using the beta key(s)? Blizzard can't knock your house and ask you to return the key to the original owner, can they?
