That one is when that channel has some change in either SID or VPID/APID, or move to other frequency.

And become legacy Astro box aren't as seamless as newer HD/PVR /Ultra boxes, message like this would appear to inform viewer to put their STB to standby mode instead, in order for the channel update to take place.

Channel number is just a LCN change, so I don't foresee they'll make any changes in SID, VPID/APID or whatsoever.
*
So the SCNA message won't come out as well like DTV when MYTV changes the channel list?

Most probably won't have any signal interruption.
MYTV change channel list? You mean frequency restacking exercise?
That one is like, the entire channels in that mux are shut down "Frequency A", and then power up "Frequency B" and fill up those channels. So disruption are very likely to occur in the process.
Some digital TV box/IDTV are not capable of "obtaining any new channel list automatically" in the case of any frequency/channel changes, so either you'll need to perform auto/manual scan to retrieve back the channels, OR when you tune to that channel, the receiver/IDTV detects that the channel "went missing", then it will automatically trigger a "brief update" on the channel list so that you'll retrieve back the channels.

But Astro's case, is just channel number (LCN).
I strongly believe that Astro boxes are constantly/regularly update its channel list in the background without the user realising it, even if you would to leave your Astro box to power on (not standby mode) even after past midnight on 1 Apr.

Except legacy Astro box models, you'll need to put to standby mode for it to be ready for channel list updates, and a gentle reminder to you all that legacy Astro box scheduled to "die" tomorrow (15 March 2020).

Imagine this, the channel list is like a "text file" which is updated regularly on Astro box. So by the time comes, it'll just update to the latest version of the channel list "text file".
Example: Let say once you got the "latest text file", and you press 107, it shall not appear as NTV7 anymore. Instead, Astro Warna (HD) appears.

That's what I'm foresee to happen la... So the signal won't even get "touched" or affected, so I don't see any possibility in signal/viewing disruption to the point of SCNA (no signal). So don't need to worry.

...unless, if Astro perform some changes in channel's technical parameters activities during or around the process (e.g. changes in SID, VPID/APID or move to other transponder), then there's a possibility that disruption would occur. But I don't foresee they would do that on and around 1 Apr 2020 later.

🤔, according to their FAQ, the favorites list will be affected but not the schedule recording, find it somehow weird
user posted image
The legacy box is scheduled to die on a Sunday? That’s weird, Astro don’t want people calling in to upgrade decoder(unless they have CS on sunday)?

Favourite Channels is just like a text file only... That's why it is affected.

Astro Customer Service hotline opens everyday, 8am-12am.
*
What about the scheduled recording? Is it a text file too?

Oh, thought that they’ll close on Sunday but I think very hard to get to CS after working hours?

Basically, yes. That's why sometimes when there's a programme being cancelled or has some changes, or move to other airtimes, the scheduled recording will appear as "failed recording".
It's more reliant on EPG data and the channel's receiving parameters like frequency, SID, and others, rather than just channel number itself.

Their CS agents got shifts one... Many customer service hotline are like that, some even 24/7 everyday.

*
And if it’s aired one time then the user is going to blame the decoder/ Astro...... so means if it’s relying on EPG data, will it become harewire? Since the EPGis going to change a bit ?

I just realise Astro AEC now also airs Go Shop in Cantonese. 😂

Previously, Cantonese version of Go Shop usually air on Astro Wah Lai Toi, but because Astro WLT is going to bye bye on 1 Apr, so local Cantonese content all move to Astro AEC, including Go Shop...?

Ah, can can... At least we can get to see some Cantonese language content on Astro AEC.

Actually that was already quite some while, forgot when but at least a few months already( did post about it, either December 2019- Christmas or FEB 2020-CNY)

So, 15 March 2020 is officially the "doomsday" of all legacy Astro boxes? Really? It's happening for real now? Finally?

If this picture is correct then nope, unless Astro decides to delay it but it would probably last till March 31st, still using the legacy decoder?

If I'm already on Maxis Fibre Standalone... I don't need the dish anymore ?
How to subscribe to this package ? more expensive ?
*
Nope, you’ll need the dish for the ultra box

Astro IPTV doesn’t support ultra box at the moment and maximum speed is 100mbps, you’ll get refurbished PVR box instead( or will reuse your current PVR box if it’s DMT 5 or newer)

Astro and broadband is a different thing all together but can get subscribe to speeds up to 800mbps

I have an ASTRO IPTV in my apartment with 10Mbps asked to upgrade to 30Mbps and was told not supported. What is so ironic is that my neighbor has a stand alone 30Mbps maxis fiber! Informed Astro about that, was told to change mine to Dish setup and apply for standalone 30Mbps. Why can they just upgrade? Can anyone explains why?
*
Seems like your condo is using copper(VDSL) infra, probably some deal with Astro and maxis that’s why

Also Astro is pushing with Astro and broadband(not the same as Astro IPTV).... Astro IPTV is like a dead plan to me, can only subscribe speeds up to 100mbps(that’s from their website, for landed property ), doesn’t even support ultra box

Old condo are on copper wiring for phone lines like yongtjunkit said. So, fiber can only go to the switching on the ground. Then the signal has to be converted to electrical and data is converted to electrical signal. There are limitation on how far it can go with this technology and normally the limit goes to 30Mbps reliably.

They cannot support IPTV because they need to have allocated bandwidth for video, leaving the bandwidth for Internet lower than 30Mbbps. That is why they are unable to provide you the package.
*
Oh ya, I forgot about that( the live TV feed)..... eventhough my house is using Astro IPTV

For landed property, if the max internet speed for IPTV, is 100mbps, that one is unacceptable.... more like Astro doesn’t care anymore.. unless the live TV feed is using more than 100mbps and at the same time give poor quality(low bitrate)

yongtjunkitOh yea, since we're talking about Astro IPTV,...

I see there are many users experiencing NCNA (Network connection not available) issue on their Astro IPTV service.
I tried to call Astro IPTV hotline earlier (+603 9543 1543), one of the pre-recorded message says:
And I know you're using Astro IPTV now, and you didn't mention that here...? So I guess you're not affected then, cuz I remember you said that the fibre network in your area is under Maxis instead of TM?

If yes, then I wonder if the current service interruption affects only Astro IPTV Maxis (under TM HSBB) customers?  hmm.gif
*
On maxis infra, works like normal

If TM, infra, shouldn't it auto-failover to satellite? Since it's a hybrid setup

I might change mine from 100% ip to hybrid mode(DIY), not sure if it's possible

I think sooner or later, the next trending topic among Astro customers after the "new channel numbers exercise on 1 April", would be hoping Astro to provide a free preview of all their channels to viewers, especially after the prime minister just announced a nationwide partial lockdown (Restricted Movement) from 18 till 31 March 2020 to control the COVID-19 outbreak. And also, customers are hoping that Astro to somehow compensate Sports pack customers (e.g. give rebates or free channels to watch) since many major sports events especially Premier League matches were postponed, which they feel like it's almost no live sports coverage throughout the month until at least April.

I've been monitoring Astro Facebook page and Twitter very closely, so at least I get a picture on what's going on with Astro customers out there... Despite such customer's comments, Astro "seems pretty quiet" about it, and doesn't seem that sincere to entertain them like the usual days where they'd copy-paste those typical answers like "Thank you for your suggestion. We will forward to the relevant department..." bla bla bla.

Customers pointed out that they would be bored at home, so they hope Astro would provide some free preview on all channels to watch throughout the partial lockdown period until 31 March, as part of their CSR (corporate social responsibility).

If Astro would offer a free preview of almost all channels, it's likely a good opportunity for them to see an overall upward trend towards their channel viewership ratings, hence this would be something that the advertisers would love to see.

Astro can consider come out a promo that offers a free preview of (almost) all HD channels automatically to both new and existing customers for a period of time, such as 30 days maybe? But the T&C is, only those customers that have HD subscription (HD-PVR service) can enjoy the free preview? From here, those who don't have HD on their subscription at all, would consider upgrading it, which eventually translates into more customers enjoys HD services, since Astro has been pushing their Starter pack to some customers for quite some time already.

Plus, Astro's channel renumbering exercise on 1 April is gonna cause inconvenience to some users. Maybe this free preview offer can somehow "soften the customer's heart" a little bit.

----

But now I wonder, would all Astro CS agents still go and work as usual, or most would stay at home? If stay at home, then I think you can figure out how come it takes forever for an CS agent to attend to you now haha.
Next morning sure many customer call in and suggest the same thing; free preview on all channels. It's kinda expected la, families no work, stay at home and watch TV/spend time with family...

Anyhow, I wish Astro good luck biggrin.gif
*
🤔, if there’s any technical issues such as decoder kaput, requires installer to fix at customers premises, wonder how would astro handle that?

If wait till after 1st April, customers would probably not be happy with Astro

🤔, switching from IP mode to hybrid( in setup) somehow switches it to DTH mode for Astro IPTV

Trying IP scan
user posted image

Switching from sat port 1 to 2 gives me satellite signal, decoder is in DTH mode though, using universal LNB, only 1 cable

user posted image
user posted image

Update: still running IP scan.... takes a very long time, now only at 78% with 200+ IP address
Edit: 100% with 255 IP address and it doesn’t work, TV guide, channel list blank.....

Switched back to IP mode, no satellite in the setup process(satellite is connected)

Looks like the scheduled recording is stored on the HDD, survives through factory reset

Consider get a cable splitter so that you can connect 2 cables to your PVR...

You can just change to Hybrid mode like that? I thought Maxis fibre area is IP mode only, and not Hybrid mode?  hmm.gif

And how come your 10732MHz is shown as "NotLocked"? Could you go to "Tuner" tab on STB Diagnostics, and try press Green button on remote control to perform Transponder Scan and take pic see.

*
Factory reset to change, on the setup screen got option to choose between hybrid and IP, but unfortunately somehow Hybrid =DTH, unless someone knows how to setup hybrid mode

Connect 1 satellite cable to SAT port 2, SAT port 1 give SCNA error

Btw, scheduled recording still shows up after factory reset, seems like it’s stored on the HDD of the PVR box?
QUOTE(joshhd @ Mar 17 2020, 10:19 PM)
Meh.
That "new UI" look is probably just to let viewers see how the new UI look like only...
If that new UI is confirmed that it'll be made available to existing PVR box users, then we'll talk about it when that really happens.
*
🤔, Seems like Astro decided to make it ultra box exclusive so that people would upgrade to it and sign 24 months contract ?

Hybrid mode supposed to be both IP and satellite mode.

Still remember what I previously shared about how to trigger your Astro PVR to make it receive signal from another tuner? Go to TV Guide, and try to record other channel, then go to that channel, then this will trick your PVR box to receive signal from that Tuner.

Maybe.
*
That’s what I thought too but it straightaway switch to satellite mode(IP multicast not available)

Isn’t the trick to trick the system to switch to another tunner? So means example: record another channel via TV guide(ch431), and then tune in to another channel (ch721)

Will it be the same if I just unplug it and plug it in manually(except that this is more inconvenient)?
Did try switching between DCSS and Universal on SAT 1 port, no difference

Maybe if someone here know how to set up hybrid mode then can....

I think the setup screen for hybrid mode is supposed to show the IP multicast in the process.... but it's not present in the setup for the latest firmware( I think, the release date is 2018)
