sold my poker 2 bcs i hate the clicky blue switch, now i miss the mech keyboard (currently using cheap logitech k100 membrane keyboard. I want to try linear switch, red switch might be too sensitive. Is black switch a good start?

for me, red is indeed too sensitive for my big fat heavy fingers.
i used cherry blacks, and gateron blacks. and as everyone says, gateron is smoother. never lubed both of them, so cant say about the diff after lubing.

i use gk61 optical with linear black for my daily driver at office.

there are few more options for you. get a modular board like gk64 (or tecware phantom elite, hopefully it's not disappointing), and try out gateron yellow or kailh pro burgundy. gateron yellow is smooth but its stem wobbles a lot; kailh pro burgundy is slightly stiffer and have less stem wobbles. after that, lube them hehe

personally i think cherry mx black is too stiff for me to use them for long hours. however, cherry mx black can be used for mods and space bar to give you a relatively strong kick-back feel.

it depends on the type of lubes that you apply to linear switches. thin lubes can preserve original typing feels, while thick lubes change typing feels (and sound, making switches quieter), but imo in a good way (at least the way i like lol)

the choice is just a personal preference.

a note on a custom build without top plate with a gk64 pcb:

basically you just need the following:
1. pcb - preferably a gk64 pcb with 'thin' kailh switch sockets. there are already several revisions for gk64 pcb. in some revisions they have switched to switch sockets with thicker plastics, which do nothing but blocking one of the side legs of pcb-mount switches from installed properly. forced installs of pcb-mount switches on these pcbs will cause the switch sockets to be detached from the pcb. the fix is to drill a hole through the plastics to make way for legs of pcb-mount switches.
2. switches - pcb-mount switches. your choice.
3. stabilizers - cherry style pcb-mount stabizers, preferably screw-in, instead of clip-in.

yes, the left 2u-shift is without stabilizers. however, it's a 2u key, so it still works fine without the support of a stabilizer.

due to the absence of top plate, the pcb flexes a lot. just use wood or aluminum cases.

it's good imo. it's relatively stiffer than cherry mx red, but doesn't cause finger pains if used for long hours, like gat black or cherry mx black in my case.

in general gat switches are relatively smooth, compared to cherry mx when they are still new. however smoothness doesn't mean a lot, especially after you lube them. also, gateron yellow's stem wobbles more compared to kailh pro burgundy.

edit:

then again, it's better to get a modular board and try these switches out. you will be a better judge for yourself

Hi guys,

I am new to this hence am posting to garner some opinions. I am in the market to get an entry level mechanical gaming keyboard with a budget of around RM200. Is there anything that you guys would recommend?

I have looked at the following and am wondering if they are good.

1. TECWARE PHANTOM RGB BACKLIT MECHANICAL KEYBOARD - RM165 @ Shopee
2. Logitech G413 Carbon Mechanical Backlit Gaming Keyboard (920-008313) - RM228 @ Shopee
3. FANTECH MK871 RGB Phantheon Mechanical Gaming Keyboard- Silent Blue/Brown Switch - RM140 @ Shopee

you should go for tecware phantom rgb. it's a outemu-based modular board (it only supports outemu switches in general) with switch hot-swapping. (meaning you can replace any key switch on the board with other switch types from outemu)

imo a modular board is good for beginners, especially for those who are actually keen to take mkb modding as a hobby. with it you can learn first hand about most mkb basics, including mods that help improving typing experience. tecware phantom rgb sucks at its stock state. however it can be relatively decent compared to most oem boards if appropriate mods are applied.

if you wanted support for switches from other brands like cherry mx, kailh, gateron, etc., you should wait for the up-coming tecware phantom elite.

there are cherry mx silent red/pink. (linear switches) however the price might be higher than your budget. (silent red is one of the rare switches)

the price varies depending on brands, models, and where you get it from. it should be above 450myr without shipping (price from mechanicalkeyboards.com)

alternatively you can look for cherry mx red (linear) or brown (tactile). they're not as quiet, but they are quieter than blue (clicky)

you can start by telling us which boards you have experienced this, and what you have done to attempt to recover them, like doing factory reset or something.

I got a Razer Blackwidow this one suddenly happen cannot space bar, certain keys also register other words or multiple other keystroke. Plug and Unplug also cannot be safe.
Another is not a mechanical keyboard but a Microsoft Sculpt Comfort Keyboard. Same as my razer, suddenly the backspace key cannot function then the E key become 3 and the other key all mess up, pull out battery try plugging to other pc also same, gone case also.

razer boards have some common issues usually. you can just look them up with search engines. if it's still under warranty, it's better to get it done. as for the one from ms, not really sure.

for good-quality oem boards, my personal favorites are from filco and varmilo. yes these two last a long time (my filco red tkl is a used one when i bought it; it's been with me for like 4 years+ iinm)
