finally had a taste of qmk power. it's really trouble free and seamless in the case of dz60.
essentially, to build a new qmk firmware you need 3 things: 1. qmk firmware source; 2. a working build environment (on windows, use msys2); this takes up around 2.56gb disk space; you can follow QMK Firmware Tutorial - MSYS2, and Drivers (Part 1) by chokkan, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HLV6mUxNnU 3. qmk toolbox + qmk drivers; you can go through chokkan's QMK Firmware Tutorial: Compiling & Flashing (Part 4), https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1lweFStx1U (there are other parts of videos so feel free to look them up if you're interested) you just need one build environment to make your own firmware. if you used other machines to install the new firmware, you just need qmk toolbox + qmk drivers for basic stuffs like key remapping, you just modify files the process is kind of simple. so here's what i do for dz60 with 64-key: 1. in qmk firmware source tree, namely qmk_firmware/keyboards/dz60/keymaps you will find a long list of various keymaps; 2. in my case, i find the keymaps in '60_ansi_arrow_fkeys' folder are most suitable for my use, so i duplicate the folder and rename the duplicate with a folder name of my choice; 3. there are some files in the folder. you can go through all of them, but the main part is to look at keymap.c that has the keymaps that i need to modify; 4. i make changes based on the keycodes in qmk's documentation for default layer, and set up additional keys that i want in layer1 (basically they are prtscr/ins, home/end, pgup/pgdn and winkey lock toggles); 5. save the changes in keymap.c, and start compiling with msys2. the resulted hex file will be in the qmk firmware source root directory. now, to flash dz60: 1. just make sure you have installed qmk drivers first, https://github.com/qmk/qmk_driver_installer/releases (get qmk_driver_installer.zip because it contains batch files that are useful for installation). 2. after that, run qmk toolbox, https://github.com/qmk/qmk_toolbox/releases (get qmk_toolbox.exe; the zip file QMK.Toolbox.app.zip is for mac); 3. make sure dz60 is booted in dfu mode. for dz60 (mini-usb or type-c versions), just unplug the keyboard cable, press and hold space bar + b at the same time, and plug in the cable; 4. upon successful boot into dfu mode, qmk_toolbox will show a line of message in yellow, telling you that the pcb is in dfu mode, connected and ready to flash; 5. in qmk toolbox, load the newly compiled hex file from the location where it's stored, then press the flash button; 6. once the flashing is successful, another line will tell you the pcb is now disconnected; 7. unplug and re-plug in the keyboard cable from dz60. it's done. on a side note, by reading the source of dz60, like rules.mk, you will know features that are already built-in, and those that can be turned on or off. it's pretty neat. |

QUOTE(irsyadfy @ Dec 12 2018, 02:35 PM) wall of text, where kibod drillz !! lol yeah some basics that hopefully can help others to get things startedon side note, very detailed explaination. thank you for making it easy for community. keep up the good work now i have tasted the convenience of qmk on dz60, the 64-key 60% can now be modded to work like a full-sized board. i'm thinking to replace that 1u-shift to call out layer2 for numpad functions (without any keys that i never touch hehe) » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « |
