Please excuse me for posting this here, but since this is kinda a niche market thing, might as well get to the right audience:
I have this 96% layout MKB that I'm letting go, bought from Taobao. Bluetooth is not working on that unit and it is a hassle to return it back to China.

Kailh Box brown switches, PCB with hot-swappable socket, if anyone is interested, here is the link to garage sales - [WTS] 96% MKB

Also, if anyone is looking to get a Keychron K4, I might let go mine too. Just received it yesterday, but really is too tall for my liking.

there is an active group-buy going on at mymkb fb page, https://www.facebook.com/groups/16306614171...636904176545806 (last day: 6th of may 2020)

good luck, because the update said the coiled cable slots are full.

Oh dang, they had a group buy for C3 stabs. I might have saved a few bucks instead of buying it direct tongue.gif

I had similar issues with my keyboard being too tall. I learned to type with my wrists straight and now I'm ok with it. There are many articles about this such as this one:
http://www.healthycomputing.com/office/setup/keyboard/

Maybe you can give it a try for a few days, see if you can adapt to it. Probably healthier in the long run too. BTW, I just measured the board I'm using now and it's the same height as your Keychron, 3.5cm to top of keycap.

Yeah, you don't really need one if you have managed to adapt to it. As the article says:

5. Don't use wrist rests or armrests while typing-only while resting.
If your workstation has wrist rests or armrests, be sure to use them only while taking breaks. Never use wrist rests or armrests while typing. A wrist rest should be used to rest the heel of your palm, not your wrist itself.

Is there any other recommendations on custom coil cables with connectors? I think the gb is from Korea and also coil slots are full too.

at least try out for a few days first.

there are other things in mkb also, like form factors, key cap profiles, layouts, etc, that require us to adapt to them first, before we can actually appreciate them.

oh ok; maybe you need to wait for the next one, look for them else where, or make it yourself.

you should get ymdk's melody96 instead if you're into that layout.

melody96 is a top-mount (iqunix f96 is a tray-mount). imo you should pick one with better keyboard construction.

tbh when i started out on high profile sculpted mkb keyboard, i too was a bit intimidated. but i've since gotten used to it.

in fact, i purchased a leather cushioned wrist rest to go with the mkb. it made typing on the mkb even more comfortable.

but i can also type without it, although instead of on the wrist rest, i rest my elbow on the table instead while my palm/wrist is elevated in air typing. to me it's not that uncomfortable, but i recommend a wrist rest.

we human have a great capacity to adapt. just give it a go for few days, and everything will be fine hehe

however, a good wrist rest will not hurt imo. i do use wrist rest, and i can type without it

my gon and tx springs have reached, 62g and 65g. later i will find time to make custom switches with them. for now, it's safe to say that i'm happy with punchy springs 67g.

compared to older days, when we had way less choices, spring swapping was a thing. nowadays, it's easy for us to get stock switches with better spring weights, like gateron yellow/black. personally i just use them to replace stock springs when there are different springs exist in the same switches, as a prevention of spring weight inconsistency, or to make custom switches.

thanks haha

60% pcbs like dz60 and yd60mq support multiple layouts, including split backspace, split left 2u-shift, and dedicated arrow keys.
to use 4mm, it's better to leave rooms for them to 'spread', and you will need to press on pcb during the soldering process also. not sure if ironing can help hehe

An uncharacteristically fast delivery by J&T. God that's a huge roll. Enough to do at least 20 full size keyboards.

So there's no way I'm going to get any work done with that thing staring me in the face...I gotta know if it will work. The perks/perils of WFH...

Moment of truth...aaand it's a bit tight
Attached Image

I can compress it down with my fingers so that the switch is all the way in the PCB, but I couldn't photograph it that way without an assistant. Here's a pic with a clamp.
Attached Image

The clamp is not as strong as my fingers so it can't get it all the way in. If I choose to proceed, I'll be fighting the foam for at least the first couple of switches. The foam will eventually conform, but I'm still slightly scared that after I solder the first switch, the force of the foam will break my solder joints or something.

maybe it's really too thick. did you try ironing it?

as long as the switches sit flush on the pcb, it should be ok. yes it's better to feed slightly more solder to the joints

Haven't tried it yet. Need to figure out how to do that without screwing up my iron with melted plastic. Oh, also, I'm supposed to be working tongue.gif
