it's the one with blue bottle with red cap, http://www.performancelubricantsusa.com/pr...e-lubricant.php note that this blue-bottle oil is not really plastic-safe; i use it for other purposes. i just tested it with one switch only, just for fun.

the plastic-safe one comes with silicon, but i haven't found it in oil form yet, http://www.performancelubricantsusa.com/pr...e-lubricant.php

i couldn't find Super Lube 51004 oil also. (what a turn-off :/) however i think there should be other affordable alternatives that we can use. (i usually refer to product sheets for clues)

it's like myr 300+ for 50g of GPL 205 (without gst and shipping). the order must meet moq. it's more expensive than a new ikbc c87 lol

edit: if you really need it, just get these from elsewhere. taobao, amazon, etc. have them also

.. as usual, i am impatient. here are some shots about my spare gk64, with cherry mx red/silent red/silent black, in a black kbdfans 5-degree case. it's based on my previous notes here.

even though the plate is only supported by switches only, without additional reinforcements from screws and soldering of switches apparently, it's surprisingly sturdy. screws are used to secure pcb into the case only, not the plate. this is the main difference from the stock/prebuilt gk64. you just start switch installation from all four sides and center to provide the base first, to make sure they sit flush, then only populate the rest.

true, the obvious weakness of gateron normal switches is its wobbly stems. however, i'm fine with them when i type. i have a board with gateron red and one with yellow. currently kailh box switches have the least wobble stems, and they're pre-lubed.

do spend time lubing switches. it brings significant improvements on typing experience. scratchy effects will be gone after it's done.

please share with us the results of your experiments. it will be useful for all of us who wanna do the similar smile.gif

your points are spot-on about our current mkb community.

mkb is a general and over-simplified marketing term now, nothing related to what a true mkb community is after. hence, most users have a very shallow knowledge of mkbs, established based on marketing, and over-glorified yet crappy prebuilts. (.. and most of them thought they're very good already) however, some of these users will eventually realize the obvious differences, and start to appreciate true values of the actual mkb community.

still, i'm pretty optimistic about our mkb community smile.gif

my black 5-degree case just arrived. hopefully i can spend this weekend installing my spare gk64 pcb into it haha!

Sure. probably will spend these few evenings fucking around with the switches and see what's the best that i can get.

Our current MKB community is more like adolescence stage, where it's current being flooded with less-informed users slowly progressing to the mature stage where information are much more widespread.
Still, it all depends how much passion that the person has.

thanks hehe

i really hope i can help more. hopefully others will join and have fun too

for now, i like to do this with CIY boards. (it's more convenient to swap stuff in and out) there are still many rooms for improvements for custom mkb building with CIY pcb like gk64. (e.g. still very limited options in terms of pcb. however i think a 60% is a good starting point) i believe if it's done right, custom CIY boards can fill the gaps between prebuilts and customs with soldered switches, especially for beginners to start understanding basics of mkbs, and exploring the real fun of mkbs (without getting so many different prebuilts like me lol)

edit:

oh yes a note on case customization with gk64 pcb, especially if you're using metal cases - it's very important that you insulate the pcb from the metal bottom case; at least cover all standoffs of the bottom case with plastic tapes or use plastic insulation rings. previously i missed out one of the standoffs, few keys near that standoff always acted randomly. (key chattering-like) it's gone after i added an insulation ring on the standoff.

the chinese-made screw-in pcb-mount stabs are actually not bad. they are secured firmly on to pcb, and everything fits. i lubed them pretty heavily.

other than that, the whole installation process was a breeze.

--

if i was reading correctly, there will be a gk64 with bluetooth module, and a gk84. i was hoping for a gk7x :/

yea, but IMO, most of the work is mainly on programming instead of electronic hardware design.
pretty tedious to write functional and non-chunky code for embedded devices laugh.gif

gigantic smart watch or they managed to miniaturized it? biggrin.gif well, first it runs off battery, means whatever it does, means the software has to be as efficient as possible

haha! I wished I had friends that I can trust soldering jobs laugh.gif

miniaturized versions i think; they wear them. battery is one issue. there are more but i didn't pay attention hehe

well, about soldering jobs, as long as they work, i'm ok lol (mine is bad, but it worked so it's good enough lol)

Before i jump the gun and buy Logitech G613,

I would like to know, if the keyboard has any thin rubberized coating on any part of the keyboard itself, particular the palm/wrist rest. Which with ages, it will turn into nasty dust-magnet and sticky to touch which turn into unpleasant usage.
Q : Rubberized coating or Hard Plastic/textured plastic ?

and since it's paired with the Logitech G603 Wireless Mouse,
Q: does it have rubberized coating or just hard plastic?

Logitch G613 don't use rubberized coating, just only use smoother contrast light grey plastics on the keyboard and mouse.
Bottom of the case of mouse and keyboard, they do use darker color sand-blasted plastics though.

Indeed, rubber coating does provide dust-magnet, finger magnet, and hell of sticky melt after few years.

Note: Get info from the reviewer. Since, now rubberized coating pretty much the enemy of whole keyboard industry. smile.gif

in general input devices with rubberized coatings (e.g. keyboards, especially mice) are bad after few years. the devices are still good, but sticky gum-like materials on their surfaces just don't feel nice to hold on to.

hopefully the current steelseries sensei 310 doesn't have that. (i also have logitech pro and g403 as backups)

rubber coat is good for short term, good grip, nice feeling.. Such coat promote you to BUY MORE. If a product can use like 10 years, then tutup kedai just like Filco in Malaysia. laugh.gif
I even have lots of pen using rubber coating.. Make me feel, the coating cost is cheap as dirt.
If no 1 buy from me, i also tutup. Reality. sad.gif

it's true about the purpose of rubber coating. it really feels nice when it's new hehe

.. and i believe filco can last for 10 years or more, well, good stuff that last usually doesn't mean the end of a product. there will always be new comers, and customers that return for more

btw for mice, instead of rubber coatings, why not just make replaceable surfaces for users to play with? there are so many spin-offs that they can offer (.. and yet they just stopped at replacement feet)

next 10 years only can earn you another board money. That's why now filco no more in Malaysia.. Need another 10 years.
My filco after 6 years still ok. another 4 years to go.. hope they still there once the time come.
