UOB told me earlier this year that I will have auto Annual Fee waived, when I told them I’m considering to cancel my card. But today saw my card got charged the AF. Do I really have to submit AF waiver and call them up every single year? Man they really pissed me off
*
yes. u need to call every year. same apply for all bank.
if u dont want to call, then select bank cc with free annual fees. confirm no need call

1st, you already agreed and accepted the card's T&C and associated fees when you apply the card(s)

2nd, AF waiver is upon bank's discretion, subject to their respective criteria. and they can also NOT to grant you the waiver for the AF.

if you cannot accept this terms & conditions, then just cancel the card; and get any AF-free cards from UOB or other banks.

Yes I’m considering to cancel the card earlier on but was enticed by them saying will waive my annual fee automatically.

Guess I’ll just call them up and get them waived first.

yeah, just call them and request for waiver, with some reasoning like you're an active card user, spending XXX monthly, good paymaster, interested to continue using the card, ask for their kind approval, etc

In order to pay Grab Paylater using autodeduct from credit card without incurring 1% fee, do I need setup AUTO TOPUP too?
Currently my wallet balance is 0, autodeduct set to EVOL cc, and PAYLATER of RM44 due on 7Nov.
Would the mcc code be 6540 for all cc cos I also have HSBC-Amanah-Platinum which requires 6540 to get cb?

QUOTE(kyleen @ Nov 2 2025, 03:08 PM)
No need enable auto top up, just need setup auto deduct.
*
Already 1.30am 7Nov but Grab Paylater amount still not auto deducted. Normally what time?

Just now suddenly I received an OTP request for my VI, to spend HKD 20,713.76 @ Cebu Air. sweat.gif Quickly went into UOB app to block the card.

Called CS and asked what to do next since I already blocked the card, he said it still needs to be replaced because if I continue using the card and if there are other fraud charges, bank is not liable for them.

Since I seldom use this card so I’m OK to get everything replaced. Will receive within 3-5 working days.

If you ever used the card on apps or website, the card details and your detailed infos are on hacker hands, hacker dont use the card details, they sell the info on telegram or darkweb to willing buyers.

Bank knows this and they couldn't do anything except to block the transaction and issue new card for you if you ever reported it.

To increase the security, try to use apple pay or google pay for transaction authentication.
Gpay pass the virtual card number to app/website, which is different from physical card.
the virtual card details are useless to hackers.

Anyway most bank credit card security functions still way behind some e-wallet eg Wise and Revolut.
Both have fine grained control to enable/disable card functions, even if your card info leaked, you still can use it for ATM withdrawal, without disable the whole things.
For oversea, i use Google pay as much as possible, for contactless.

My last transaction was in Feb-March when I swiped it physically in Spain/Portugal.

I always use Apple Pay but UOB Malaysia doesn’t support Apple Pay yet.

Anyway, it’s not a big deal. I used to have a lot of fraud attempts on my CIMB TWE in the past too. That was the worst. laugh.gif I also had once before on UOB PME. Since I don’t have any auto-billing, so it’s not an issue to get it replaced.

Do you mean you swiped it on terminal?
Probably got duped when swiping, looks like EU credit card fraud are worse.

I used to have a lot of attempts on my debit card and my grab master card too.
some are small amount like 10 SGD or few cents in Indonesia, grab card fraud attempt where blocked few times, one in Australia, one in US, range to 200 to 400 USD, both attempt blocked and Grab CSO called me just to confirm if it was me lol.

these probably small time hackers.

Hackers target mostly high value website (looks well-built website but full of security flaws) eg Amazon, Sony, Blizzard, Paypal.
These were the site i used to visit, i remember i had my debit card details on it,
few years later my card got fraud attempt.

Worse is i dont get any notification at all, but DBS Bank were good they just re-issue the card and the charges reversed.
Big banks too ages to just implement disable oversea withdrawal, disable adding into e-wallet, disable ATM withdrawal.
Wise and Revolut were like 10 years ahead lol

Yes, physical swipes. Again I might use it to buy my bus/train tickets via online site before I went to Spain and Portugal but that was either in end of last year early this year.

Not a big deal for me just the inconvenience. For debit cards, I never use them most of them so I’m safe from it.
