QUOTE(55665566 @ Aug 21 2018, 09:08 AM) Just asking, how to reject if the headhunter/HR insist on the current salary? Just tell them you dont feel comfortable to share or that prospective compa y should not care about your old salary.Especially when filling up forms or interview. Though if headhunter i would share. After all once they match you with potential new job they know the new company slary budget and would be able to filter out for u instead of wasting everyone time going into interviu only to end up salary expectation not met due to budget constraint. |

QUOTE(party @ Aug 21 2018, 11:25 PM) Just tell them you dont feel comfortable to share or that prospective compa y should not care about your old salary. I get that its a risk to share your salary. I too was in that situation. HR informed me that how they will know if I am not lying about my current salary. I could have mentioned a slightly higher pay than what i am getting now in order to bargain for higher salary in the new company. Though if headhunter i would share. After all once they match you with potential new job they know the new company slary budget and would be able to filter out for u instead of wasting everyone time going into interviu only to end up salary expectation not met due to budget constraint. I told them anyways. But in reality how do we solve in these situation? Do we state or not? Or maybe state the range and not the exact figures? I could have mentioned a slightly higher pay than what i am getting now in order to bargain for higher salary in the new company. My current company did a very thorough background check on me (employment history for the past 10 years) which I was told to prepare all the contracts offered, payslips, HR contact in those firms etc. I had sleepless nights as I myself couldn't verify all the information provided considering they were dated so long ago!I told them anyways. But in reality how do we solve in these situation? Do we state or not? Or maybe state the range and not the exact figures? I think it would be okay to negotiate by saying "i am expecting a raise / a promotion of XX% by end of XX and I would expect the salary offered to be in the same range" however, do it only when you really have something on board and avoid the potential company of using that against you in the future (e.g. performance etc). |

QUOTE(55665566 @ Aug 21 2018, 09:08 AM) Just asking, how to reject if the headhunter/HR insist on the current salary? When filling up forms, it depends on my mood, or my perception of the company asking for it.Especially when filling up forms or interview. When asked verbally, my answer would roughly be that I'm not comfortable at discussing current salary because it would lead to unfair comparison of salaries; because what I am interested in is the overall income (income! not salary), which means that I take everything into consideration: accommodation/transport allowance, insurances, and whatever else that can be represented with money. I guess that would make it a good "moment" to start asking what the company has on offer - you know, as a way to make a point out of it. Most of them are not comfortable at revealing the salary range that the job commands. And anyway, the point of discussion should be what is the desired salary for the position on offer. I kind of did that when I interviewed for a job in Brunei, years ago. Managed to negotiate my salary and got a 2k increase from the base offer. Unfortunately 2 of my friends did not negotiate and accepted the base offers. Somehow that company offered the same base salary for the same job grade (although each job grade actually comes with its salary band). |

Hi. I am currently a fresh graduate in software engineering field. I will like to pursue my career in the coming two years and wondering if taking a master course (after 2 years of working experience) in computer science (to be exact, data science) in local public university would add any value to my career progression.
I don't think I will stop whatever I am doing and go into the master studies, will still be working while choosing unis that offer the course after working hours (for example UM offers classes from 6 to 9pm at weekdays for master [mixed mode]) Just curious about it because I see most of the members posting here stop after degree and don't continue any further. |
