Am looking for new opportunities and may possibly get an offer from another O&G company for at least 20k. Told their internal recruiter my bottom line was that and thereafter an interview was arranged. Depending on the job scope may try to negotiate higher. Targeting at least 30% increment. Quite happy in my current working environment and team and the work life balance is good. But not happy with my career progression as not promoted for last 5 years due to lean team size in department despite the significant increase in my responsibilities (there is only me and my boss handling quite large portfolio).

Cognizant of the oil market these past few years so can't complain but now that industry is picking up seems like too good an opportunity to miss. What i know is my current company would likely try to counter-offer me to stay if i resign as i really contribute much to my team but i'm in a dilemma whether to accept if they match the new offer. In my company it seems like the trend is to resign and capable employees would get counter-offered to get a decent and fair salary hike. I know for a fact they will have difficulty finding a replacement able to handle the workload that i have.

Should i stay if counter-offered?
Pros: better pay, used to environment and people i work with, work life balance, people in the company know my abilities and no necessity to prove myself
Cons: Career progression ceiling, Company may prepare succession plan and possibility of being viewed as disloyal, etc.. the usual negative traits that follow a counter-offer

Should i leave?
Pros: better pay, new challenges, new environment, higher potential for career progression
Cons: Unknowns, Restarting career path and build credibility all over again

That is a very good pay at your age. May I know what triggered your move back to Malaysia? How did you negotiate your salary in MYR during that point of time?

My situation is very much like yours now. I am currently working in KL. Getting good pay, but somehow I am feeling I am hitting a bottleneck in terms of my career now.

I work in a very specific type of law firm which fortunately has fixed salary increments which are always increasing (driven by market so if one firm increases base pay all of the other firms will follow). On the flip side they expect you to be available 24/7 so there are months when I work without a weekend.

You work for 6 years only, and now you can get RM11,650, that's quite high.
How much they pay you want you start working in this company?

I was tired of Singapore life after two years there. It seems like a bed of roses but in actuality it takes a drain on your soul as there is a lot of negativity in daily life such as people fighting over small things in the mrt. I just asked the hiring company to match my salary in Singapore which although I didn’t get a raise was actually a blessing in disguise as after that O&G companies started to shut their offices in SG then.

Suppose it is alright. Normal I believe. Normally, banks have 2 months or more for bonus. So tasking 2 or 3 months, a basic of 3 to 3.5k is okay.

What kind of role? Sales, cs, operations, analytics, risk, compliance, audit, credit, treasury?

I would assume RM4k would be a fair number...but not sure. Wait for others to chime in.

Depends on what role and ranking. Should range anything from 3.7k to 4.5k, excluding outliers.
