Was talking to some recruiters, there's a very large salary range one job title can have biggrin.gif

I asked to look into a solutions architect position with 10+ years of experience. Dimension Data is paying RM12-15k per month, a few other companies in the middle around RM18-21k, Avanade was looking at RM22-28k

I shouldn't be surprised though, this falls exactly in the range of the current Robert Walters salary survey for KL 2018 biggrin.gif
*
wouldn't surprise me thou .. me n my friend break the 10k range before 30s with ccie cert. experienced senior IT guy is on demand right now. very difficult to find one in the market. thus the bargain power in on our hand.

it is all about how to bluff and sell yourself during the interview. Skills and others can learn later but the very first step is get into the company you desire first, which is via interview session.
*
depending on what kind of post thou ... highly technical post doesn't work like this. been to many interviews where the 1st question will be technical related. no BS.

lol ..actually simepleguy is correct .. by definition expat is just someone who live outside their native country. only by recent years we always refer expat as someone who earn more/higher than locals.

Huawei usually hires only contract stuff, the permanent stuff are all in China.
*
even in china most are contract. unless u r in management level. btw Huawei doesn't value ccie much since they have their own certification, in this case exp does more says..

from someone working in Huawei's rival. haha

i am at sg at the moment. i really hated the job/environment in singapore. the only factor that is pulling me back to stay on in this singky island is the sgd.. i calculated myself, the amount i am saving per month whilst working in singapore, is waay waay more than in malaysia.

soemtimes i relly hope, rm is stronger, like 1:2 ?? then, at least i have more solid reason to move back
*
well.. I had moved back from sg to kl. with higher remuneration packages than in sg even after 1:3 conversion. the point is, try to be the top 10-15% in what u r doing.

well.. maybe the sg salary was well underpaid  mega_shok.gif

my salary back in sg were on par with the market rate ... not really underpaid. 1 of the fact I realise in Malaysia is that those high post job which required expert level knowledges + skills are really in demand. many of the local tenants who have these skills either went to sg or other countries.. so I guess the local companies have no choice but to raise the bar to match or get closer to what oversea is offering..

Hi all sifu,

I'm 26 working in IT field and currently earning 6k myr per month, before tax.

Was wondering for my salary range is it considered below ave or average in Klang Valley.

For me 6k (5k+ after tax) is not really a lot if you plan to live in here for long term, especially with all sort of commitment.

I did some analysis on my own spending, with this salary seems like it will be difficult for me to get a house as well.

My spending:
Rental: 650 (all in)
Car: 1k (loan+parking+petrol)
Insurance: 330
Food: 800 (include dating, as i usually pay for food when im dating with gf)

With only these it already sum up to roughly 2.8k. That leave me around 2.5 or 2.6k. This is without factoring in car maintenance and also giving parent money. Also if i was to buy a house, it will leave me with almost no saving per month.

So just want to know the average earning we should at least have, maybe at 30 to at least be able to live in Klang Valley with own house.

I,m setting a goal for me to earn at least 10k in 30, but not sure that is realistic or not.
*
FYI I have met many professional in IT getting more than 10k in their early 30ish. instead of thinking, u need to act on it.

Do you guys find yourself having to jump every 2-4 years in order to get a higher salary?
*
Yes.. but I only jump once I've archived something which allows me to negotiate higher remuneration packages.

e.g: professional certs, completion of some big projects etc.. btw I am in IT as well.

Does it in any way affect your resume or will the interviewer going to ask why you switch companies within such a short period?
*
Nope, I've never encounter any question from the interviewer from my new employer. maybe this is common in IT sector.
