Thanks for the info.

Erm 1 question, if I twin to Uni of Sydney, can I work in Aussie or HongKong or any other country for that matter? Or will I need to take some sort of qualification paper in that respective country I wanna work in?

Thanks!

laws and regulations differ everywhere and may change from time to time so to understand it better it's best that you go and read up on them yourself =) as different countries will have different views on the matter.

If housemanship.... Maybe..... As australia has too much home students, they might not be or are unable to cater for the international students' need anymore..... Sadly to say, you'll have to leave the country if you're not employed.... =(

But nobody knows what will happen in 8 years time if you twin to sydney..... Maybe by the time you graduate, there will be enough spaces to accommodate you in..... Who knows?

As for Hong Kong..... You'll have to pass the national licensing examination if you graduated outside the HKG......

I just want to know, why people choose imu over manipal and vice versa... I m considering both this institution and I don't know if it's worth while spending so much money on imu dentistry, since I can do it so cheaply in manipal...

Perceived reputation, maybe. Manipal dentistry, is it their 1st intake?

good question..... What i can say about this is, if you're doing the local program of dentistry in imu, I'm sure it's not worth it at all..... if u do pds, then different story lo... It's just not worth paying that much and its price is almost the price of doing pms.... 420k for a local degree.... Imu must be mad.....

To be honest... The reason why they charge so expensive is because they do not have enough facilities to teach.... Students need to pair up because imu does not have... Err... I don't know what is that called... The ''chair''???... to learn individually.... You know the big machine u sit on when u visit a dentist?? One chair cost about a c-class benz...... That's why.... They have to charge the cost of buying the new ''chair'' into your fees..... Remember, imu's final aim is just to make huge profit...

Manipal doesn't charge that much because they already have the facilities there...

So if I were you, I will not come for imu dentistry local program.. And would opt for manipal or aimst instead....

not enough facilities? have u, as an IMU student, been to the dental faculty before? there are at least 20-30 chairs there, all very well equipped.

the ratio at IMU would be 2-3 students per chair. and each chair cost about RM150000 plus minus, not a C-class benz. they don't need to buy new chairs actually, there is already a quota.

why manipal maybe cheaper? its 2+3. currency of india still weaker than RM. its at melaka. rental cost is still cheaper than KL. and you might have 4-5 students sharing a chair.

and a dental degree is almost equivalent to a medical degree. of course the fees are about the same.

Well..... Been there twice with my dental friends..... Not all can get access to the lab... Our ID's cannot open their door.... They are paying 400k but yet they get very little materials during their practical.... Giam siap, no?? Half of their dental lab is still empty.... Lecturers... most of the time have to wait until 5Pm for one from UM..... This isn't what they should be getting with 420k, no??? =(

ooo... 150k har?

Lastly, a 70k difference is not "about the same" my friend..... And don't say their degree is ''almost'' equivalent to a medical degree.... It's a TABOO(they can fight with u all day)..... In fact, dental students in imu have to study both medical and dental sciences..... =)

I believe that the cost is a major consideration for that yew wooi.... And to that, I salute manipal, instead of imu dentistry local. If he's choosing PDS, by all means come.

AFAIK in UK, by the 2nd year, dental student are already paying the more expensive Clinical fees whereas medicine only get to pay Clinical fees in their 3rd years, hence total price for dentistry is more expensive than medicine.

Yes, I have noticed:
1. Traditional method of charging fees is cheaper Pre Clinical Year-1 & Year-2. Followed by more expensive Clinical Year3 to Year5.

2. Some Aussie university nowadays will add all 5 year's fees, divided by 5, and then charge the came for all 5 years.

So in the end, they are all the same, just different method of charging.

They didnt enroll straight from pre-u. Prolly with first degree in another field, or a late bloomer.

Not much but there's an increasing number of mature students...

With pms-graduate pathway on the run, I believe there will be more in the next few years.

These mature students may range from age 25<x<45.... For the recent batch there is a person in his 40's enrolled into our medicine... =)

the graduate entry-pms pathway, for most of the pms, does not necessarily require you to be a mature student (ie have already a degree) on entry.....most still need you to do the extra 1 year for the bmedsc(imu).....some even if you already have another degree......

it makes no difference for the local stream students.........

but is means the pms stream students will need to pay an additional rm25k for phase 1.......and they will not be around to enjoy the 25k reduction in phase 2...........imu earns more.....
