That's the problem currently there's no device that can do everything without any limitations. Each device has some kind of issue even though if it support full DV.

Did you try using SmartTubeNext to play same YT video?

Nope. Never try before since Apple TV 4K box no issue.

When Shield arrive I will try how it perform. 😅
I no need all format of DV supporting as they is too many version but at least the common one where Plex is support in CCwGTV support is support in Shield.

u guys watch DV in MP4 or MKV? cos MKV one plex i dont think can handle, only Kodi can if not mistaken on my shield tube. urs is pro version should have no much issue i think. Shield tube is laggy and cannot support high bitrate file because of the puny ram.

For Plex latest version do support MKV in DV for profile 5, 7 and 8 single layer in my CCwGTV and Apple TV 4K.

ah ok, that is plex for nvidia shield only? or lg tv one? Now i only use webOS plex to watch lol, cos have no much issue running MP4 them compare to shield tube. prefer less hassle nowadays, only time hit the wall is when play trueHD, end up using xbox plex app to watch cos can passthru trueHD lol.

I don't have shield yet. So far I using Plex for CCwGTV and Apple TV 4K. My local content is 99% mkv.

I just order shield not arrive yet.

LG TV Plex is too slow for handling 4K REMUX, basically not playable to me.

Most of my Plex stuffs are anime, and kodi can do animated subtitle without transcoding. Hence why I use kodi for most part.

Plex no longer transcoding subtitle. That is history already now. 😊

Only for normal text. Kodi app on android still can't process .ass subtitles that has custom fonts and animated effects. It will drop off any stylings, and just display everything at the bottom.

For example

Plex app will display it with the default Arial font


Kodi app will correctly render the embedded font and size in the subtitle file


Also, Plex app just straight up ignored this part


while Kodi properly shows the animated effects

Oh I know what you mean then, lucky I no need, I prefer subtitle as bottom as possible and not animated.

I think animated subtitle do useful for karaoke but I not using it.

Yeah, but in some animes, loosing the styling also looses on screen information. Like this for example:

Not only Plex app won't show these infos, but the subtitle on the top would also be missing as it has a hard time processing subtitles with timing that overlap with each other


So yeah, I only use the app for non animes. For animes, I have to use kodi or transcode

Nvidia Shield TV Pro - 1st hands-on short review.



What I like

• The only TV Box I own that can playback Dolby Atmos in Dolby TrueHD.
• The only TV Box I own that can playback 192Khz sound track.
• All film is properly playback from Plex.
• Finally all Dolby Vision is properly detect and playback as Dolby Vision.
• The smoother Android TV Box. This interface is very smooth.

What is not good enough

• Still no HDR support in YouTube, seriously?
• The Plex is very usable but not very smooth, it smoothness is no way near the version in Apple TV 4K (2021 edition). I hope Plex put more work on Nvidia Shield TV Pro and make is silky smooth.
• The interface is so boring and I don't see the Discover feature, I think I read somewhere seems Nvidia remove it later right? I not remember, I connect to VPN but still no discover is appear.
• The interface is like Apple TV 4K in 4K resolution instead of 1080p in CCwGTV, but it looks like up-scaling instead of actual 4K interface.

That it, I totally no regret buying the Nvidia Shield TV Pro, it fact I should direct buy this previously instead of spend money on Apple TV 4K (2021 edition) as well the Chromecast with Google TV.

Highly recommended, and ya I no time try the gaming yet and I don't have console to interact with it yet as well. 😅

1. The interface is render at 1080p same as CCwGTV. Probably due to NVIDIA upscaling it looks better or due to different type of launcher being used.
2. Youtube/Stadia HDR use VP9.2 codec which Shield TV SoC(Tegra X1/+) do not support and the CPU is not capable enough to play it smoothly using software acceleration. Only manage to play it smoothly max at 720p.
3. It will be awesome if NVIDIA able to removed it but unfortunately they can't. The Discover UI is available on Shield TV but not Malaysia so ya VPN is needed to activate it but it will take some time or after few reboots. Do make sure all apps are updated especially Android TV Home, Android TV Core Services and Google Play Service.

My recommendation:
1. Disable auto system update. (Only update after reviewing feedbacks)
2. Since you are using Plex so better to disable auto app update on Google Play Store because they are pretty good at screwing up.. 😂
3. Disable IPv6. (Some streaming service that don't support IPv6 will stop working)

1. I think it is not same as CCwGTV when screenshot is 1080p but in Nvidia Shield is 4K but obvious upscale.
2. Ya I just read back few post, nothing can do in this case.
3. Few restart, ooo. As in CCwGTV is instant once you connect to VPN. I will try again this, I want the new interface as it look pretty. Haha!

1. Oh.. you are referring to screenshot then yes NVIDIA added the feature to capture screenshot with upscaling(if available) but the native system UI is still max at 1080p and the rest is upscaling. Need to wait for Android TV 12 for proper 4K UI.
2. Ya, nothing can be done unless they built new SoC and add AV1 support.
3. That because Google TV Home UI is always active and background service is always ready to ping Google server like using streaming apps meanwhile Discover UI need to be activated by the server first.

oh? I instantly hated that new UI. But to be fair, I don't subscribe to any streaming services, and it keeps pointing me to stuffs that you can't even access in SEA. I had to ask reddit on how to disable that on my CwGTV

I love that for cosmetic reason only. I never use that. Haha!
