Use MakeMKV to remux the files into an MKV container. It won't encode it or anything, just make it easier for media players to play the file

Hi. I was wondering if you can install Tautulli for your Plex server. This will give you a better breakdown on how your Shield is playing the Plex file.


The important thing is usually what "Stream" shows. Some transcoding process can lead to stuttering.

Alternatively you can also try the Plex add-on for Kodi


Plex is an application that basically creates your own mini Netflix style library using your own files. It's not actually a player.

While Plex allows the app to trigger an external player, you will loose the ability to keep track of what you are playing, which is why people use Plex in the first place. So people either use the built in Plex player (also based on Exo Player). The issue is that Plex's native player usually have issues with subtitles that are not srt, and would try to "burn" in the subtitle into the video, hence some people who wants to avoid this live transcoding issue would use Plex for Kodi, since Kodi has better subttitle support, especially if you are watching animes

I also gatal tangan wanting to get an Nvidia Shield for my Plex. Feels that my smart TV is not able to handle it properly.

Are you using Wifi or dedicated ethernet? I used a USB hub with Power Delivery to get a USB ethernet for the CCwGTV.

Most of my Plex stuffs are anime, and kodi can do animated subtitle without transcoding. Hence why I use kodi for most part.

Only for normal text. Kodi app on android still can't process .ass subtitles that has custom fonts and animated effects. It will drop off any stylings, and just display everything at the bottom.

For example

Plex app will display it with the default Arial font


Kodi app will correctly render the embedded font and size in the subtitle file


Also, Plex app just straight up ignored this part

Yeah, but in some animes, loosing the styling also looses on screen information. Like this for example:

Not only Plex app won't show these infos, but the subtitle on the top would also be missing as it has a hard time processing subtitles with timing that overlap with each other


So yeah, I only use the app for non animes. For animes, I have to use kodi or transcode

oh? I instantly hated that new UI. But to be fair, I don't subscribe to any streaming services, and it keeps pointing me to stuffs that you can't even access in SEA. I had to ask reddit on how to disable that on my CwGTV
