Play Store won't allow downloads without logging into a Google account. Google accounts are easy to create. Just have one for such media devices.. Separation from main account achieved..

this app is not fully compatible with androidtv.
so, yes, u need a mouse AND the remote to navigate properly.

...

sidenote:

HBO Go app is now available, with Astro.
however, the official app v1.0.86 is incompatible with AndroidTV.
i.e., won't work with this TV or other devices running on androidtv OS.
but give it time, someone will come up with a modified version as usual, i would think.

As usual, Android TV platform neglected by Astro developers.

Which is kinda irony since we watch movies and tv shows 90% on big screen.

Very incompetent from Astro. I've been making noises in their social app and live chat about native Android TV support for their Go app for years (navigating the app with mouse/Air Remote is a PITA), but they keep their ears closed. Smh

Haha.. They still have a long way to go. The current regular Android app is still subpar. Last I asked, the excuse (same as TM) is that the apps are meant for mobile devices only with touchscreens... So... I gave up at such point. I wonder if they knew that they could offer such for Android TV and make it nice enough to use 1080p all around with HD Audio for some channels? Then offer streaming only packages for those who don't want the decoder. I don't know, perhaps the market is insufficient.. Or its just you know.. This is Malaysia and we've got our way of doing things. smile.gif

this is a very interesting point, 2 things here:

1. some apps don't even work with regular androids.
astrogo and unifi playtv are prime examples.
go back 2 years or so, very few boxes can work those apps.
in the last year or so, some box makers produced great firmwares that can work with them.
then others found ways to close or hide root, use modified versions, they work.
at this time, there are many boxes that will work, one way or another.

2. AndroidTV is a more difficult one. For an app to get into the playstore, it must be certified by Google.
neither Astrogo nor Unifi PlayTV is approved which implies they have no interest to expand the app use of their IPTV for smart TVs, boxes->TVs.
maybe even intentionally blocking such usage.
they rather hold onto their decoders/STB tightly while allowing the app for mobile devices only.
so people do sideloads and use them, albeit suboptimally.

i do not see any sign things will change for these 2 apps.

What exactly u mean by "good enough for movie"?

Do u mean picture quality, audio quality?

Using external hdmi input or internal tv player via usb?

PQ is the result of 3 things:
source->player->TV.
the TV is a slave display, overall it is fine, can handle up to 4k HDR.
what player r u using and what sources?
if they are decent, the result on TV should be very acceptable.
if u r playing small files with a lousy box or mediocre player, u will get reasonable but not great results.
by small files, i mean those 1-2GB ones whereas big ones are 80-90GB.
good media players today wud be RM500 to RM2K; cheap ones can be as low as RM88.

in addition, the TV has a native "content player" app - this app, to me is not good, don't use - poor navigation, poor audio, subtitles, fwd, rwd options.
if u want to play back direct on TV usb, just install Kodi (i hope u know this app) from playstore, set audio passthru and transcoding.
this way, u can play files in a 2TB hdd, many formats, 4k HDR videos, subtitles, audio tracks.
via optical output to yr HITB, u will get Dolby Digital audio; the TV can only do DD, so DTS and everything else will be transcoded to DD.
(i hope this answers yr question in the other thread.)

the above applies to ua6800x and should apply to al1x without any difference.

Thank you again for your feedback. Really appreciate it. Yes I'm only able to experience DD sound so far because the proper amp for DTS or latest audio format still out of my reach. My amp only able to receive DD.

Regarding box player, currently my player not support a 4k but only 1080p. If kodi and native apps good enough, maybe i will only use USB external HDD to play all media files.

I assume Kodi is good enough to play all subtitles format. All movies from my source is only DD 5.1.

I assume the passthrough audio option in Kodi can pass 5.1 audio channel to my HTiB.

Kodi in tv can handle most files, most subs, even 4khdr, can send dd5.1 out from optical.

But to me, a tv is a tv, for display... so the tv player is never good.

I personally do not use the tv for playback becos i have a better player for the tv to display better results.

But since u r using 1080p box and dd audio mostly which is not demanding, i wud think u will find tv kodi ok.
