thread got too much info to filter through so i hope someone can guide me.

i'll be travelling to japan for 10 days in early nov. no itenary yet. but my main reason for going to japan is to head over to disneyland.

any other kid friendly places to recommend ? regardless tokyo or kyoto or hokkaido. i have 10 days. i saw in google maps there is a sea world beside disneyland. worth going ?

There’s 2 Disney resorts in Tokyo alone. Disneyland and Disneysea

In Tokyo area, there’s also a lot of museum - Snoopy, Ghibli, Doraemon etc.

Ramen or Cup Noodle Museum in Yokohama should also be quite interesting for kids

What do you mean by regardless of Tokyo/ Kyoto or Hokkaido? Where are you going exactly? You do know that all 3 are totally different places?

i have 10 days there before i board off to milan.
from the maps, i know its possible for me to spend 3 days in tokyo (if necessary) and 6 days in kyoto as it is only couple of hours away. i have not made any itenary yet as i'm still searching for interesting places which are meant for kids. baby friendly is optional.

it isnt exactly 3 diff places. its still not far off tokyo unlike okinawa. though i've not filtered my places of interests yet nor set a route, i'd like to spend more time at a place whereby its suitable for kids. the more places of interest for kids, the longer i can stay at that prefecture.

disneyland is a must. disneysea i will skip. the biggest most impressive aquaworld is in okinawa. but its only that as an attraction for my kid which makes it....not really worth going just for it.
sanrioland and skytree something something already added to my list.

No, of course it's possible to do Tokyo-Kyoto-Osaka in 10 days but it's hectic especially when you're bringing kids along. It's even tiring for adults alone without having to bring kids around.

And it's because you mentioned Hokkaido as well, as though you're planning for 3 places within 10 days. Or that you don't really care whichever place, as long as Disneyland is there. Hokkaido is far north and you'll have to take a plane from Tokyo/ Osaka to get there.

You'll have to make it clear what's your plan and what you have in mind, coz otherwise suggestions will come from all different directions which may not be what you want/ need.

So instead of asking for suggestions , why not share your list of where you plan to go and see what others have to say/ comment?

i'm only asking for kid friendly places of interests. disneyland, sanrioland, sea park beside disneyland are some of the places that would interest a young kid. after compiling and filtering those places of interests meant for kids/family, i'll decide the route and # days to maintain at whatever the location in japan.

like i said before, from tokyo i do not even mind flying to okinawa. but unfortunately, okinawa only has that sea aquarium (no doubt the bggest in japan) but its only 1 attraction meant for children. if it was in tokyo, they have disneyland and that smaller sea aquarium beside it. so it makes it viable for me to stay at least 2 nights near chiba or somewhere around there. if hokkaido has got 4-5 attraction for kids, i dont mind flying to hokkaido for 3-4 days even, or 5-6 if necessary. if kyoto has more child attractions, then i'd hop over to kyoto instead and lepak there for as long as i need to.

this trip was made for my kids. so every single day in japan for me will be in a child friendly, child attraction, child oriented location from morning to night. though i myself would like to see what's in akihabara on the gadget area, i'm even willing to sacrifice them so that morning to night, is a trip meant for them.

Note:
* Will be travelling with a 2 year old child.
* Prefer slow pace trip.
* Both me and my wife have visited Japan previously and have done Hakone Freepass.
* This is just a rough idea of where we will be during our Japan trip in Nov. Nothing is finalized yet except for the flight tickets.

Date Place
Day 1 (Fri, 2 Nov) Arrive at Haneda Airport @ 9.40pm. Depart to AirBnB at Shinjuku.
Day 2 (Sat, 3 Nov) Visit Shinjuku Gyoen Garden + Takeshita Street
Day 3 (Sun, 4 Nov) Visit Odaiba + 1 TBC place
Day 4 (Mon, 5 Nov) Depart to AirBnB at Chiba. Visit Moff Animal Cafe or Mother Farm
Day 5 (Tues, 6 Nov) Disneyland Day 1
Day 6 (Wed, 7 Nov) Disneyland Day 2
Day 7 (Thurs, 8 Nov) Depart to Kyoto. Free and easy.
Day 8 (Fri, 9 Nov) Kyoto Full Day
Day 9 (Sat, 10 Nov) Kyoto Full Day
Day 10 (Sun, 11 Nov) Kyoto Full Day
Day 11 (Mon, 12 Nov) Depart to Hakone? or Kawaguchiko?
Day 12 (Tues, 13 Nov) Hakone / Kawaguchiko Full Day
Day 13 (Wed, 14 Nov) Hakone / Kawaguchiko Full Day
Day 14 (Thurs, 15 Nov) Hakone / Kawaguchiko Full Day
Day 15 (Fri, 16 Nov) Depart back to Tokyo before noon. Explore around Shibuya
Day 16 (Sat, 17 Nov) Akihabara + 1 TBC place to visit
Day 17 (Sun, 18 Nov) Yokohama Day Trip
Day 18 (Mon, 19 Nov) Free and easy. Flight back at 10.50pm

Questions:
1) Is it worth getting Japan Rail Way Pass? If yes, should I go with a 14-day pass and which day should I start using it?
2) From Kyoto, can I take a train direct to Kawaguchiko or I must go through Hakone first?
3) Any other suggestions/recommendations? Should I switch things around a bit to make travel more convenient? Like maybe from Tokyo > Hakone/Kawaguchiko > Kyoto > Tokyo

Thank you for your time and I welcome any feedback notworthy.gif

Answer:
1. Yes. Jr Pass nationwide is kinda essential. Shud start the day u depart to Kyoto and end on the day u go back to Tokyo. From your schedule, probably start Day 7 end with Day 13. U might wanna re-adjust your trip for Hakone or Kawaguchiko. If u in Hakone, Jr train pass is useful. But if lake kawaguchiko, jr train only travel to half and another half by private railway.
2. Both have few exchange, check here for more info: http://www.hyperdia.com/
3. If your pass is one week, u might consider those place that have more usage on the pass like Tokyo > Hakone > Kyoto > Tokyo, longer journey with Jr.

Here, next time take a look before flying. It has been widely known that the Kiyomizu Dera is undergoing renovation and will only reopen next year I believe.

I like your itinerary, it's relaxing and accommodating for children.

1. Yes, since you're going both Tokyo and Kyoto. However sacwoc has also mentioned it's worth checking the domestic flight price as sometimes it could be cheaper.
2. Kawaguchiko and Hakone are two different areas that is several hours apart.
3. It's not an issue, your itinerary seems fine. You've both visited Japan and know what to expect/ how to get around.

Day 3: Maybe you can bring your family to Asakusa then take a water bus from Asakusa to Odaiba. I'm sure your kids will love it biggrin.gif
http://www.gotokyo.org/en/tourists/info/access/access5.html

Day 16: Probably consider Ueno or Nakano area. I personally like Nakano because it has plenty to see and shop.

if book thru Agoda/Expedia/Booking.com should be ok if you specify 2 adults. The system will auto made adjustment to the prices based on the no. of pax as well as filter out rooms that did not meet the criteria.

If you booked directly from the hotels website, most of the time their system will display price and charge according to $$$ per guest

If I need to eliminate one from my Kyoto itinerary, which would it be?

Nijo Castle
Ginkaku-ji
Kiyamizu-dera (because refurbishment work)
Nishiki Market

I'm thinking to leave out Nishiki market, since I'll also be going to a few shopping district in Osaka (Kuromon, Tenjinbashisuji, Namba dotonbori, Kita district malls, Abeno Harukas)

Definitely Nishiki. I doubt you’ll buy the products to bring back home. The variety of food stalls are actually not much compare to Kuromon
