Can any please help me with info on USJ?
Understand that Happy Porter World only allows up to a number of visitor at one time so "Timed Entry" need to be booked.
1. Does this applied to other parts of the park as well? 2. If I don't wanna book timed entry in advance (as I don't fix my visiting date), I need to book it on the day I arrive at the park right, but I can only book it once I enter the park right? cuz its a booth within the park, not same as the entrance ticketing booth. 3. How long is each "timed entry" session? Is it like one session in the morning, one in the afternoon, one in the evening, one at night? with each session is an hour? but what if different time of the day has different events happening in HP park? 4. If I'm correct on item 2, since I'm going in April, so must be super peak, better to get VIP band to enter the park before official opening so I can get to the timed entry booking booth to make booking first?
Thanks so much

QUOTE(tohff7 @ Jan 21 2018, 07:32 PM) When are you going in Apr? Mid-April and during weekdays are fine. There is a difference with Express Pass and Timed Entry. Express Pass let you cut queue and use the shorter express lane. AFAIK, timed entry tickets are only used for Harry Potter area in order to limit the crowds entering there. Once you enter, there is no time limit to how long you can stay inside. What you can do is arrive early in the park and RUN straight to the Harry Potter area first. Most likely you will still able to go in before they closed it. If it’s already close, then you will need to get the timed-entry ticket and select your time. Once you are in, go straight for the ride first and leave sight-seeing later. It only took me like 30mins to queue. I'm going in between 8 to 14 April, I would want to avoid purchasing the VIP band (comes with ticket to Harukas 300 and earlier access to USJ Park to book timed entry) as to purchase it I need to fix my visiting date, I want to be flexible with my itinerary if possible. Do you think it'll be crowded during the weekdays of 9th to 13th April? If can't be avoided, I'll just go ahead and fix my visiting date on 13th (Friday) to purchase the VIP band.

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Feb 13 2018, 06:26 PM) Travel Japan using package (travel agent) vs own travel, actually can save how much ? I'm poor at travel itinerary planning, might leave it to travel agent I'd say those who plan own itinerary is not so much because wanna save money. Its more to flexibility, you can choose what to go for and what to leave out, you can plan which place u wanna spend more time on and which place u rather leave out entirely. Going with tour, everything is touch and go, everything follow schedule.

QUOTE(sweet_pez @ Mar 2 2018, 12:12 PM) Looks decent. Do note that Kiyomizu Dera is currently undergoing renovation: https://kyoto.travel/en/latest_news/63If there's time, you can also visit Nishiki market which is not too far off the Nijo Castle. It closes around 5 or 6pm: https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3931.htmlright thanks, is there anything to eat walking distance from Ginkaku-ji or Kinkaku-ji that is not overly priced due to it being near to tourist site?

QUOTE(tohff7 @ Mar 2 2018, 01:41 PM) Logistics wise, maybe doing Ginkakuji-Kinkakuji-Yasaki Shrine in this order is a bit weird. My suggestion - Wednesday - Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Tenryu-ji Temple, Kinkakuji, Nijo Castle Thursday - start with Fushimi Inari Taisha, then move up to Yasaka Shrine, Kiyomizudera, Ginkakuji P/S: As far as I can remember, there's not much restaurants around Ginkakuji and Kinkakuji I see, but is it better to go Kiyomizudera early morning to avoid crowd than Fushimi Inari Taisha? I put Fushimi Inari Taisha at end of the day because its near to train station and have food there for dinner

Regarding Kobe beef, anyone know why is dinner is so much more expensive than lunch?
Is it due to the portion or just purely because its "dinner"?

When shopping in Osaka (eg. Abeno Harukas, Namba district, Umeda district), how do I know / how do I ask if the shop is licensed tax-free store to claim back 8% consumption tax? QUOTE(tohff7 @ Mar 8 2018, 02:20 PM) a bit of both? portion is smaller but not like a lot smaller. it's a common business strategy to drive traffic and increase sales volume Ic, so its better to spurge during lunch and budget during dinner.

QUOTE(mocha321 @ Mar 9 2018, 05:16 PM) Hi, I'm planning an Osaka-Kyoto trip. Would 13 Nov to 20 Nov be OK to catch the autumn leaves? Is 8D7N enough for this two locations? Will be travelling with elderly, so will try to have not too packed schedule. Won't be going to Universal Studio. If I go for flights that will arrive KIX at around 9pm+, would it be too rush to catch a train to Osaka/Kyoto? I checked a few airlines but mostly either arrive early morning or night. Any suggestions? I'm gonna have a 8D 7N trip to Osaka-Kyoto too next month, so far my itinerary is ok not that pack, taking away USJ and shopping allocation (which I have), I think 8D7N for you should be fine. My AA flight also reach KIX around 9pm+, based on what I've read, KIX immigration check may take sometime so I decide to sleep at airport the first night. The rails stop at midnight, but there are limousine bus that still run after 12am but only to a few major hotel in Osaka, so not convenient for me as I book AirBnb in less central area.

QUOTE(jojo_g2 @ Mar 9 2018, 05:31 PM) Thats the thing about Japan rails. pretty confusing to look at. Specially when you're looking at a monitor or google maps. Need multiple cross check. And if I'm not wrong, there's not a single card that passes all rails. Different type's diff card? Huyooo.. now only glad we have TnG ICOCA can be used on all rails in Kansai area right?

Any recommended budget hotel near Osaka Tennoji station?
So far only found hotel Taiyo that is sub-RM200 per night for twin room. Reviews are so-so only but should be fine since just plan to sleepover there the night I land.

QUOTE(calvin @ Mar 11 2018, 05:31 PM) for those that went to USJ :- 1. Where did you guys buy your tickets from ? (USJ JP site/ klook/ kiosk @ lawson) ? I'm not targeting to take on all the rides maybe just a few popular ones, so I'm intending to get the VIP wristband instead of the express pass. Has anyone tried this method before ? Bought mine from Klook. Haven't go yet, but VIP wristband only give you 15min headstart, so I don't think its much of an advantage, just u get to go in earlier, then book a timed entry to HP world, and that's all I guess.

QUOTE(mocha321 @ Mar 12 2018, 11:46 AM) Thanks for the info From your experience, which would be better, to start the trip from Kyoto first or from Osaka first? Should I squeeze in a day trip to Nara too? Depending on what day you start your trip, if weekdays then I'd say Kyoto first as I believe those spots in Kyoto and better with lesser crowd

QUOTE(Left4Dead2 @ Mar 14 2018, 10:56 PM) End of Nov or early Dec18, which place suggest to visit ? What kind of question is this? Japan is so big. Decide where you like then only plan from there. Budget for spending is below 4-5k per person 4-5k per person for how long? Does take package + local travel more economic ? Both quite similar, its not the cost that decides whether u go for tour or plan your own itinerary, its whether u like planning own itinerary that customised to own requirement or no time to plan then just take tour. Plan things yourself and you can decide which spot u wanna spend more time and which spot u wanna skip. Go with tour save you the hassle to do all the homework but also fix all your timetable. Never been to Japan and travel alone
