Stock northbridge heatsink is really really weak. sweat.gif
Running at 1.35volts with stock northbridge heatsink at 65°C. rclxub.gif

Now that i've changed the heatsink to PCCooler HB-771s northbridge heatsink, the temps drop to 40°C!

That's a very huge temperature drop. wub.gif

lawl shawty, seems you didn't bother to redo the TIM on the stock cooler. After all, mine does max 40C under full load using AS5

Aku dah buat la bang.
Dah tukar TIM chewing gum stock to AS5 masa guna stock heatsink pun sama.

System ko tu pelik.
Other people punya system semua sama ngan aku, ko sorang je lain.

Yes.
Try this to confirm about it.

First, let the southbridge run on passive mode, check the system temperature in the smart guardian program, take a note of it.

Then, direct a fan blowing directly to the southbridge, check the system temperature in the smart guardian program again, then see if the temps drop or not. smile.gif

To me, yes the system temp shows the southbridge temperatures.
Try it on your Infinity board. tongue.gif

Just place a 40mm fan blow direct on the sourthbridge. But the system temperature still hover at 45~47c seems to be the same as b4.

Placing a 120mm fan blow direct to the southbridge area. Temperature reads below 40C. Don't know where is the culprit

Added on June 12, 2007, 9:41 pmFinally found, where the System Temperature Sensor...

Just place a small heatsink on top of the Fan control temperature chip located above the 3 pci slot. Chip no : IT8718F

Without any fan blowing the south bridge, and the system temperature reads between 38 to 43C

Alright, will try that next. notworthy.gif

On other related matters:

I've managed to drop my HDD temp (~10c drop) by putting a coolermaster 80mm fan directly underneath, glued to the drive cage. I've also glued another case fan (but the air flow's too weak) to the casing floor blowing upwards to the SB and GTX. It *seems* to have dropped the SB by ~7c (59c to 52c).

p/s: Shawty, yeap, that's the Supertalent DDR2 800Mhz RAM I bought from your bulk. Excellent dude !

Just set up my second rig of P965-S with a new retail Core2Duo E6600. Noticed something perculiar about the new C2D Batch No : L706A498 Packing Date 4/4/2007.

This new c2d keep changing its multiplier to 6x even I have lock it to 9x. Only heavy stress will the cpu trigger the 9x

This new c2d does not even allows me to clock it to 340FSB where my other batch of c2d L629F125 easily touch 380 FSB without giving any problem at all.

Tried raising the Vcore to 1.42, same problem still exist.

Supprising the vcore will automatically switch to 1.21 once its multiplier is set to 6x and show vcore 1.42 at 9x

Anybody encounter the same problem here?

Typing mistake Ace. It reads batch no : L629F125. Thank you for pointing that out.

The C1E already been disabled, and it is lock by the DFI bios, no way to change it.

Is this how a bad batch core2duo looks like ?

I got a feeling INTEL place a locking mechanism to limit the core2duo max frequency but I noticed the system did post, just got weird when starting to load up windows.
