Mercedes removed their "illegal trick" aka modified wheel rim prior Austin race, fear of Ferrari protest, no wonder their car chewing tyre rubber like nobody business...
*
But actually FIA already clarify that the wheels are still legal. Ferrari can protest all they want but they loose the championship by their own fault, especially the driver.

Mercedes's trick also helped, imagine previous 3 races Hamilton's rubber cannot lasts, he would not able to maintain his pace and may not won.

Well if the trick is legal then that's Mercs being smarter than the rest, aren't they? That's why they deserve to be champions, unlike Ferrari & Seb who screwed up all the time.

So far RB looks very fast while Mercs & Ferrari seems need to turn their power down, or maybe sandbagging a bit.

Great lap from Ric to steal Max's thunder! The RBs are fast over a lap but they might be vulnerable on the straights from the Mercs & Ferraris, so yeah can be an interesting race. I'm hoping it will be hot again as in FP1-3 so that the Mercs will have overheating issue so cannot use their full power, maybe even a blown engine from Ham? laugh.gif

Yeah, Mercedes engine is notorious of failure and not reliable since Hakinnen era. Bottas already blew one during free practice. Another engine failure coming soon, hehe

Well not really coz in the end they still able to win in the last few years meaning they are still the most consistent. Even if they have a bit more engine problem than others but at least they have the speed to consistently win the titles.

If you are Lewis, what would be your approach for today's race?

Go gung-ho and get P1, or to play it safe?

I'd still try to win it coz I want to win the title on a high, not by just finishing 7th. Anyway already got huge margin so even if screw up, I'd still got 2 more races to clinch it, so plenty of margin to play with.

And it is always better to stay in front of the pack, than in the middle! Especially if stuck with the rookies, more chance of colliding

Rather boring race...pity Ric had a bad start then DNF, was hoping that it was Ham who had the DNF. laugh.gif

Yeah it was too much tire management, especially in this race. Maybe its good if F1 has another period of tire wars. I read that Hankook is considering to enter F1.

A bit off topic but coinciding with Kimi's last win after 5 years, I just found out that Sebastian Loeb had just won again in Catalunya after 6 years off at the age of 44 and only on his 3rd rally entry this year! He won by only 2.9 secs from Ogier. This guy is just unbelievable and a true driving legend!
