was thinking that my machine is untouchable...now....its 3 rod"able"....
the ketua kampung is the "one" that is responsible to revive those undead zombie...now ..i become one of the zombie too....

i have no idea how correct i am, but in my humble opinion, when i saw the X-Clamps of my beloved zombie 360 and learnt that they expanded and bent due to heat, hence also putting pressure onto the MotherBoard......won't it eventually happen to any console over time?

if someone can shed some light that would be really cool, coz right now, im under the impression that the 360 has actually a major design flaw

Then getting those vertical cooling devices should be a must-have? How much are those? Anyone here using it? Comments...

don't worry, error 0102 is confirmed fixable with the removing of the clamp. my console kena 3ROD for 3 times and the error is 0102.

1. 1st time got the 3ROD. remove the clamp. manage to revive it back for less than 1 hour before kena 3ROD again. the fan was blowing very loud before kena.

2. 3ROD because too much thermal paste. do the procedure again and manage to revive it, for few days before kena for 3rd time... this time the fan is not loud. before kena, few times the 360 got hangs, last hang and 3ROD appear.

3. 3ROD because the board was too bent, i couldn't find the correct screw, and didn't put washer because the screw was too short. finally got the correct screw and nylon washer, put the right amount of thermal paste. and my console is back again from the grave, 3 days already and so far no problem, didn't even hang unlike when i use the wrong screw.

p/s: the red highlight i believe is some of the symptom before kena 3ROD. if anyone 360 got such symptom better to look for the doctor already. without the drill method, it would be advisable to put the console horizontal since with the washer, the screw will pressed against the metal casing. so the motherboard won't bent.


yup, i believe all console will kena the 3ROD if they didn't remove the x-clamp, just a matter of time. just look at my number two 3ROD.


it will be interesting to see if MS gonna remove the x-clamp after seeing so many revive 360.

talking about after removing the x clamp. mostly people will put in vertical position.

but as you know ,, the heatsink (for the processor) is heavy.. so the question is..

Does it bent if you put in vertical ? (after long period of time and heat)

@xxboxx - The 1st symptom you mentioned above is actually because your operation has a bit of flaw in it. If you have put the minimum amount of thermal paste, the fan would not act that way. The fan blowing loud means that the heat is not transmitting efficiently to the heatsinks.

I have operated a lot of 3rod consoles and other than those who got E74 error, their clamps are slightly bent more into the centre. And there is the E74 problem which is the big question now? What is the exact cause of it.. anybody wanna enlighten me on it?

yup, i know. too much thermal paste, the heat didnt go enough through the heatsink. so the fan have to work harder.

I think xxboxx has the most experience in post-error results

Hmmm... i think most of those v.stand coolers are made in china should be cheap. I've seen some on play-asia that has a small section to seat both controllers too...

Its a Microsoft trend actually...stuff up first then release fixes!

My console died on 28th Feb 2007, bought another set on the same day while waiting for repair.

Thanks Djinn.. will collect back my old baby (and use as Emergency Backup Unit) in few hours time .

Special Live update for Bro Silencer: Short test done. Everything looks fine. Will start the stress test soon.

Erm.. if you wanna have the console be put vertically i can actually do some modifications to the metal casing holding the mobo so that the screws head can sink into the metal casing thus if you put it vertically, the screws head will lean on to the metal casing instead of inside it (which might cause downforce on the mobo).
