Helicopter crash kills Honduran president’s sister, 5 others

QUOTE
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — Hilda Hernandez, sister of President Juan Orlando Hernandez, and five other people were killed in a helicopter crash Saturday on a mountain near the Honduran capital.

Hernandez, 51, was an agronomy engineer who served as communications minister under her brother and as minister of social development during the previous administration of then-President Porfirio Lobo.

The military helicopter carrying Hernandez, four members of her security detail and a pilot took off from Tegucigalpa’s international airport in the morning bound for her residence in Comayagua, about 40 miles (60 kilometers) from the capital.

Soon afterward, the air force reported that the aircraft had gone missing. The wreckage was later discovered in the mountains outside Tegucigalpa with no survivors.

Reynaldo Sanchez, the head of the president’s National Party, said in a statement: “Be with God, Hilda Hernandez, a tireless fighter for our party.”

8 injured after SANDF chopper crashes near N1 near Worcester

QUOTE
Cape Town - Eight people were injured after an SANDF helicopter Oryx crashed near the N1 at the Huguenot tunnel outside Cape Town on Sunday.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa confirmed that the chopper went down just outside the Huguenot tunnel on the Worcester side.

"We will be closing the Du Toitskloof Pass due to a helicopter that crashed on the Worcester side of Du Toitskloof Pass," he said.

He urged motorists to use alternative routes from Worcester to Cape Town via Villiersdorp, Grabouw or Wolseley.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring confirmed the crash, saying eight people were injured.

"ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene to find a large helicopter lying across the entire highway. Debris from the helicopter was spread across the scene," he said.

"Eight people were found to be injured. One had sustained serious injuries while seven others had sustained minor to moderate injuries," Meiring said.

He said the patients were treated on the scene, while the seriously injured patients received advanced life support, before they were all transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

"The local authorities were on the scene for further investigations," Meiring said.

The SA National Defence Force spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini confirmed the incident.

"The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) can confirm that an Air Force Helicopter Oryx belonging to the South African Air Force (SAAF) crash landed along the N1 near the Hugenot Tunnel in the Western Cape," he said in a statement.

Malaysian Armed Forces aim for 10% enrollment from other races annually

user posted image

PORT DICKSON: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) wants to see more recruits comprising various races in the force.

Armed Forces chief Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor says ATM is targeting an increase by 10% annually.

He also wants to see more of them enrol with the Royal Military College (MTD).

He said he was confident of achieving the target, set as a key performance indicator (KPI) for the armed forces, with the support of relevant parties and the media.

“The involvement of other races in the ATM is so we can share the responsibility of defending the sovereignty of the nation.

“So we are seeking 10% participation of youths from various races to join as members of the armed forces and enrol in MTD,” he told a press conference at the passing out parade and pining of ranks for cadet officers at Segenting Camp, Port Dickson here, today.

Also present were army chief General Zulkiple Kassim, navy chief Admiral Ahmad Badaruddin and air force chief General Affendi Buang.

plus put in more incentives (mostly offer better pay and career progression than commercial businesses)
maybe even get some propaganda in to encourage youths in general to have a more positive view on the military

Exercise Southern Katipo 2017

Exercise Southern Katipo 2017 held in the Upper South Island of New Zealand during October and November.

The Exercise showed us what can be achieved when we work together with our partners, using the right tools and equipment for the task. The training tested us in a variety of ways – from those on the front lines to our support and command function – across different scenarios, we may face in real-world operations.

Aiya, non-malay numbers very small in the armed forces. How many percent you think is capable to be promoted from lower/mid ranks from numbers that small?

Going by the numbers of non-malays currently in service, I 'd be surprised there is more than 5% of them in the higher ranks. This is true in almost any working environment, not just the military. Military promotion operates just like any other job promotion; influence, favoritism and work politics will still take into effect. This isn't a video game where you level up automatically.
