I am using LG so called Nano Cell technology (65SJ850T I think?), it tries to simulate deep blacks by having local dimming. In my opinion, it's not nice. Anytime there's a picture on the screen, the LED will light up the entire vertical bar above and below it and it's distracting esp in dark scenes.

Example, subtitle appear on a dark scene, the entire middle part of the screen lights up vertically and ruins the dark scene.

I'm not sure if other brands / QLED are using the same method.

I think you can get OLED at a reasonable size below RM10k now.

I spent RM8.5k on my TV.

You just need to understand , there are 2 primary technology for TV display now .
There is the self emissive kind like OLEDs and Plasma ( which is long dead ) & the LED-LCD type , which need to rely on its LED backlights to illuminate its picture .

So , regardless of whatever alphabets the TV makers are putting in front of their LED TVs , such as " QLED " , " XLED " , " ULED " ... etc , the core structure of TV remain the same .
If they are the same , why give them a different term ? Because that is , apparently the fancy way for TV makers to market their modern display now.

ULED ? shocking.gif That sounds like something completely new and exciting , which I am sure have piqued the curiosity of the general public more than you would imagine.

The Nano Cell is LG's proprietary IPS TV with wide color gamut .

But I am sorry to say this but LG 's IPS TV are pretty much not worth it . They have a rather awkward position in the market now , as many of them are edge-lit based hence the local dimming is pretty much not effective yet the price tags of these higher end TV make it very difficult to justify their purchases.

To be fair , LG have also released a couple of Full-Array local dimming IPS TV this year like the UK8500 & 9500 , but it is still in the experimental stage and no where as good as the high end LCD TVs from Samsung and Sony. It is hard to recommend them as the price is high and not nearly having the same level of picture quality of their OLED lineups.

Agree... Mind you, it's not like there's any problem with the TV or anything. It's still perfectly OK for your daily usage and the occasional movie but I feel there are other options at this kind of price

Guys, what's the recommended mid range model to get now for 49" to 65" range. Prefer Sony / Samsung.
Thanks.

Looking for a new 65" TV.... been surveying different brands / models but end up getting more confusing with their model and other mumbo jumbo details  rclxub.gif

For TVs of this size it seems there are "cheap" versions of RM4k+, then the higher end ones (such as LG's new 65SJ850T with the Nano cell thingy) that goes up to 10k+, and finally the OLED ones which are out budget.

Can sifus here recommend me / help me narrow down on models to consider? From most to least frequent, the TV will be used for:

1) Movies
2) PS3 & PS4
3) Youtube, Netflix (LG is the clear winner here since I like their interface and the magic remote)
4) Normal TV (astro, etc) - don't really watch a lot. Mostly I just binge on whatever series I want selectively and these are usually via Netflix or downloaded.

If you noticed, I seem to be biased towards LG- I've only owned a LG 42" up till now, and I've been pretty satisfied with it (love the 100Hz picture smoothening thing "Motionflow" eventhough some says it makes the show looks "fake" due to the smoothness)

I have no experience with other brands and standing in the shop side by side, after 10 mins everything starts to look the same  rclxub.gif however, I don't like Sharp, Toshiba and Phillips. Not sure what reason, just don't like tongue.gif

Budgetary-wise I hope to get one under RM10k. Most of the "cheap" versions (RM4k+) seems to get pretty horrible reviews online but I don't know how bad they will be in real life setting.

There's also an OLED version going for around RM12k in one of the shops (display set) - LG E6 if I recall. Not sure if worth it.

Got your TV? I have 1 unit of Sony OLED TV for sales. Model KD-65A1, original RSP @ RM17,640, now sales @ RM11,465.
It's a roadshow display set, 99% new. Visit link below:

Question, if one was buying 65" for mostly streaming content like on 4k youtube and HD astro, would Hisense 65n3000uw for RM3250 suffice?
Or would it be better to go for Hisense 65m5010uw with bells & whistles like HDR and HDCP2.2(which one has no interest in using in the near future) for RM3799?

These HDR TVs are literally going by titles only . They bring almost nothing on the table beside showing very little color improvement during HDR playbacks.
TBF, they should not be classified as HDR displays at all.

But as an SDR and 4K TV , they will make do . HDR Videos on youtube are fairly limited anyway .

The 5010 has a more premium look with metal frame bezel , 4 HDMI ports ( n3000 has 3 ).

Correct. I'm still trying to justify the rm549 for HDR, one extra HDMI port and one USB 3.0 port. It's for my parents actually and I know they won't be using any set top blu ray or I'll plugging any gaming consoles to it. I forsee streaming services taking center stage in the next few years.

I recommend Hisense 65" Class H9E Plus. But it's a bit pricey.

H9E isn't available outside of US.

And it is no HDR TV , the Samsung mid-range NU8000 is far better equipped than it , a lot cheaper too .

The problem isn't as simple as that .
They have just released too many models based on the same lineup.

There is a x7003f , a x7002f and a x7093f (and more ) within the same XF70 series . They may or may not be using the same panel.
And I have no idea why did these TV brands decide to release so many different version of the same model to complicate matters.

The best solution is still to call them and confirm with the model numbers first . There are just too many variation for one to remember.
