CHICAGO (AP) -- The Miami Heat climbed out of their last 2-0 playoff deficit. They'll need more from Shaquille O'Neal and Dwyane Wade to perform similar magic this time.

Ben Gordon scored 27 points and Luol Deng added 26 to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 107-89 victory Tuesday night and a 2-0 lead over the defending champions in this first-round series.

Gordon scored 11 in the third quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, as the Bulls built a 17-point lead. Deng scored 14 in the fourth as Chicago sent Miami halfway to elimination.

O'Neal and Wade had subpar performances again after struggling through foul trouble in the opener, finishing with 17 and 21 points, respectively. O'Neal was just 6-for-14 from the floor with eight rebounds. And Wade, who led a late charge in Game 1, never really got going, hitting 9-of-19.

Trailing 85-71 through three quarters, the Heat were within seven after Wade's layup early in the fourth, but they had no answer for Deng. Quiet in the first half after scoring 33 in the opener, Deng scored the Bulls' first eight points in the fourth before Thabo Sefolosha hit a jumper that made it 95-82 midway through the quarter.

The best-of-seven series shifts to Miami for two games, with Game 3 Friday night.

Home teams that have taken the first two games in a best-of-seven series have gone on to advance 95 percent of the time, but the Heat and Bulls have bucked that trend in recent seasons.

Miami dropped the first two games at Dallas in last year's finals, then won four straight to capture the championship. Two years ago, the Bulls opened with two wins at home over Washington but lost in their first playoff appearance since the Michael Jordan-Scottie Pippen era.

As they did in Game 1, the Bulls beat the Heat with quick passes that led to open looks, and as a result, hit 43 of 78 shots.

The Toronto Raptors celebrated with Sam Mitchell, then went out and played like him.

After starting the night with an award ceremony for their coach of the year, the Raptors beat the New Jersey Nets 89-83 Tuesday to even their first-round series at a game apiece.

"He wasn't the prettiest player but he got the job done and that's kind of how the playoffs are," forward Chris Bosh said. "You just have to get the job done, no matter what happens."

Anthony Parker scored 26 points and Bosh added 25 points and 13 rebounds in Toronto's first playoff victory since a 94-84 home win over Detroit on April 27, 2002. It came hours after Mitchell was honored as the NBA's coach of the year for leading the Raptors to a 20-win improvement and their first Atlantic Division titl

not suprising to see lakers get dump 4 - 0. other than kobe, no one seems to be on par with him (kobe is THIS high, others are just this high). so, phoenix can stop plays from happening.

geez, its been sometime since i play ball...anyway, go mavericks go!!!

Meh, Lakers are the underdogs, so I guess this is "normal". Everyone's just wondering if they can pull off an upset due to the kobe factor. Don't forget Phoenix is the 2nd seed..

Raptors are doing really well, it's been so long since they were in the playoffs?

Tomorrow's matches will be interesting though, imagine spurs and mavs both losing again tongue.gif
I personally hope the spurs win and the mavs lose keke

Oh and this column I read was pretty good, Kerr states why he thinks GSW has a chance of beating the mavs in this series:

QUOTE

The beauty of the NBA playoffs -- if you're a fan of the favored team, anyway -- is that there are no flukes. A seven-game series provides plenty of opportunity for adjustments, including mental ones, and that's exactly what the Spurs and Mavericks will experience heading into Game 2 on Wednesday. The nerves will be more familiar, the edge will come back and players will more easily settle in and play the game without fear.

I'd be shocked if both clubs didn't bounce back with victories to tie their respective series. Still, both Dallas and San Antonio have a lot of work ahead of them.

* Player of the Day: Baron Davis. The Warriors point guard was unstoppable in leading his band of athletic and ultra-quick teammates and making life miserable for Dallas.

* The Mavs actually changed their lineup to match up with Davis, starting Devean George in place of Erick Dampier. When was the last time the league's No. 1 seed altered its starting lineup to match up with an 8 seed? That's the respect that Dallas coach Avery Johnson has for Davis, who is incredibly strong and is Golden State's best post-up player.

* George did what he could on Davis, but it wasn't anywhere near enough. It will be interesting to see if Johnson goes back to his usual starting lineup for Game 2.

* If Johnson does return to his regular lineup, the problem is that either Jason Terry or Devin Harris will have to cover Davis. Both are too small to handle the Warriors' powerful guard. Also, the Mavericks face a mismatch on the perimeter with Dampier trying to cover Al Harrington, Golden State's "center."

* Therein lies the problem for Dallas: The Mavericks are looking at mismatches in two spots, and if Dampier or DeSagana Diop comes off the floor to fix one matchup, there's no interior defensive presence. And at the offensive end, Dallas doesn't have an inside player who can make the Warriors pay for going small.

* The usual strategy against a small lineup is to pound the ball inside, but Dampier and Diop aren't offensive players. Dirk Nowitzki would rather play on the perimeter, too. This is a nightmarish situation for Johnson, but he's smart and competitive and has a versatile roster. He and his team have a lot to think about as they try to solve the Warrior riddle.
