Ray Allen Unhappy With Garnett's Cursing?
Word in Boston, according to Charley Walters, is that the Celtics' Ray Allen was taken aback by some profane language used by Kevin Garnett during a practice, and he let the former Timberwolves star know about it.
Kobe Situation Touch And Go
Kobe Bryant acknowledged being "caught off guard" by comments made last week by Lakers owner Jerry Buss, but said he would "strap it up" and play if he were still on the Lakers' roster when the regular season rolled around Oct. 30.
Bryant granted a brief interview Tuesday afternoon to a small gathering of reporters awaiting him near his Bentley in the players' parking lot of the Lakers' training facility in El Segundo.
Bryant, when asked Tuesday if he had played his final game in a Lakers uniform, was non-committal.
"I don't know," he said. "Talk to Mitch [Kupchak] and Mr. Buss about that. I'm just getting ready. If I'm here, I'm ready to strap it up. My job is to play the game and get ready to play the game, and that's what I'm doing.
"It's my job to play basketball. It's not my job to worry about what management is doing. I'm just going to get ready and let them do their job."
The Lakers declined to comment publicly, but they are not looking to trade Bryant.
"There's nothing imminent," Jackson said.
K-Mart Looks Solid In Nuggets Win
Kenyon Martin, recovering from right knee microfracture surgery, played in his first game in nearly a year. It looked like he had missed a week.
In Denver's 104-78 preseason win over Milwaukee at the Resch Center, Martin totaled 11 points and five rebounds in 15 first-half minutes. With the Nuggets remaining cautious about his health, Martin didn't play in the second half.
"He's back, man," said Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony, who scored 16 points while guard Allen Iverson had a game-high 22. "Hopefully, his body can keep up. He was looking pretty good for his first game."
Cuban Willing To Talk To Lakers About Kobe
Mark Cuban was asked about Kobe Bryant on Tuesday and began by saying that nobody in the Mavericks' organization had talked to the Lakers about trading for Kobe. He then made it clear that he'd be more than willing to chat with Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak.
"Kobe is a phenomenal player, and the Mavs have always been opportunistic since the day that I bought them," Cuban said. "So, if something were to present itself, we'd always have to explore it. But we have a great team."
