I'm using Kingston RAM, which came with Hynix. I don't trust Hynix DRAM, but I wonder why this type of OEM can simply sell?

I bought used WD10EZEX from LYN which lasted for a few months only. I'm scared with LYN seller, especially HDD/SSD.

If read the review SK Hynix Canvas SC300 still quite decent with MLC & 2D NAND. RM 90 bucks different I personally go for the Samsung TLC V-NAND.

hynix dram is ok; at least they're stable at stock speed. for oc i'm not sure.

like the article said, it's better to get 240gb range for better performance.

when each nand has larger capacity, that means fewer nand chips are used in ssd, which in turn means parallelism needed for sustaining ssd performance will be reduced further. this happened to crucial drives before, resulting their small capacity ssd to become under-performed/slower than advertised.

edit: note that this doesn't mean the new samsung ssd 850 is bad. from the charts, they are still performing rather fine.

850 is a bad move for Samsung as they reduced the warranty cry.gif

nah. it's not easy to replace the places of 850 evo/pro in consumer sata ssd category.

850 is entry-level ssd. it will be much cheaper.

on the other hand, maybe there will be new stuff coming up.

yes the new 850 is replacing 750. it seems like samsung is trying to bring up the performance bar in the entry-level segment, which is nice, however the room for improvements might be too small to get noticed.

im thinking to buy 256g x400 m.2 and transcend m80s enclosure. mainly for data transfer between pc to pc/phone. any issue will arise?

Hi guys,

Want to ask regarding Intel 540, thinking to upgrade my few years old 530 to 540 but I read online say that 540 is using TLC, so how is the reliability compared to my current 530?

Thanks smile.gif

you should read reviews of intel 540s online, such as this one, https://www.anandtech.com/show/10432/the-in...0s-480gb-review

in short, don't buy if you have other better options

check the previous page for sk hynix oem ssd with price tag myr 450

alternatively, please do some leg work for sweet deals like this. there is lazada (might have good discounts for you) and lelong. usually retail price for a typical 500gb range sata ssd is about myr 700+

usually the only option to have such price is to go for oem ssds (which are much cheaper due to lack of proper warranty coverage, management tools, and firmware support)

you should, especially those well-known brands. if you're not concerned about benefits of retail drives, they're equally good. (some are better than the current offerings)

e.g. i have some samsung oem sata drives, consumer and enterprise grade. they are running without issues for few years now. my oldest oem drive is from fujitsu (now it's one of external storage that i carry around frequently). there was this one time, i thought i bricked it due to my carelessness. all data was gone (i have backups so all are good hehe); and it's undetectable by any system. after a brief power cycling, it came back to life. today, its health is still above 95% lol

for my usage at work, it's better to skip entry-level ssds. i have tried few transcend s370. one of them failed after few months of use. it's hard failure. nothing could revive it. also, i feel some sluggishness when using them as os drive, for some reasons. (btw transcend's cloning utility is not bad)

off-topic: Mega Memory is here, from crucial. it's 128gb per stick, mainly for servers. they call it LRDIMM, load-reduced DIMM

liteon LCS-512M6S 512GB
Micron MTFDDAK512MBF 512GB

between the 2 above and corsair force LS 480gb, which one would be a better choice in terms of reliability and performance?

in terms of reliability and performance, i think i will pick micron. i never used this model before. however i think micron/crucial is ok (still running on their old 2x m500 960gb in one of my machines; never had issues)

however if you looked for retail warranty support, corsair force ls. (not related to reliability or performance, just fyi)
