Anyone know the distri for Crucial SSDs? Trying to find their BX300 series SATA SSDs, so far with no avail.

Thanks for the link. Apparently there aren't anyone carrying Crucial atm. Out of the list of two distributors, I think one went out of business while the other only carry Micron's enterprise SSDs. crucial.com is the best bet for Crucial SSDs then. As to why, you've also mentioned in a previous post the BX300 is one of the rare consumer SSDs that employs MLC over TLC.

oh no wonder the coverage of crucial drives is so low now. the damage and impacts due to bad ratings of previous ssd releases were really serious.

bx300 is indeed a good option. to some extents, it's crucial's attempt to gain back market shares and consumer confidence imo.

i need help with m.2 stuff. i'm really confused. need some examples if possible
the board im using is Asus Z170p-d3
it has an m.2 slot with 'M' key

If im not mistaken to tap in to the speed of the nvme x4 pcie, i will need pcie x4 speed on board, meaning sharing. I have a GPU slot x16 and another secondary pcie x16. If I were to plug in an m.2 ssd, that means it will bring down my gpu to x8 or so? even with nvme x4 and normal m.2 @ x2?

ps : how to know the drives (ssd drives) is x4 or x2?

I'm really confused like no daylight here. pls someone help and give examples?

i guess you should refer to its mobo manual for this, then do trials and errors. you might be able to use tools like hwinfo64 for effective pcie lanes used; or you can also email asus support directly for answers.

my best guess is that the pci-e lanes for m.2 slot is from z170 chip. for gpu you should still get x16.

both use nand flash; tlc nand to be exact. you should have checked their respective tech sheets to make sure, or at least checked out tech review sites to get to know more. the difference is that the old one uses planar tlc, while the newer one uses 3d tlc nand

yeah i just downloaded and went thru the manual about PCIE and M.2
it did say if plug in 2nd GPU card, 2nd one will be x4 (x4 is good enuf for nvme)
I guess the M.2 Key M slot is only for M
but the B key drive can also plug into the pcie lanes on the 2nd slot
reason im asking is dun wana buy wrong drive and end up selling it off later
anyway, i probably need to do trial error here already

Edit: Just found out i can't connect m.2 directly onto my PCIE port, need the pcie card adapter for this..
oh well, time to hit the garage sales looking for another M key M.2 drive it is then..

if the manual or specs said the m.2 slot supported both pcie and sata ssds, usually it means it's compatible for both m and b key ssds.

using pcie adapter with heat sink or fan is a better option, because you can reduce heat impacts on ssd significantly. just be sure to check compatibility with the ssd that you're going to use first. (e.g. for m key ssds you can use adapter from asus, or third party adapters)

since you are gonna use pcie slots, it's better to use pcie ssds so that it at least can run at x4 full speed.
