hiiiii, congrats on the new tered rclxm9.gif

just wanna ask,

user posted image

1) where to get goggles like this with prescription lenses (mine's 500)

2) is it stupid to wear this and swim instead of dive (or should i just use googles?)

3) or should i just get the goggles and use contact lens?

many thankssss

1. Pretty much any dive shops. Check the first page for a list of dive shops and their location. It's more important for you to find the perfect mask fit instead.
2. Some people do use this to swim but I find it really uncomfortable to swim with. Prescription goggles aren't that expensive.
3. I would suggest just go with contact lens since your power is 500. There is the risk of losing your specs to the sea and be pretty much blind for the rest of your day/trip unless you always carry a spare. I also hated when I had to switch between specs and masks for me to be able to see clearly on the boat, especially if it's a small boat. Sometimes it can get very busy and messy on a small dive boat and there's no fun protecting your specs from dangers in such situation.

I know plenty who dive with contacts with no issues. imran85 tend to lose his contacts underwater, maybe his eyes too big hahah. In the end, it's a personal preference. I suggest you try with the contacts first, definitely go for dailies and only dailies, use and throw at the end of the day, and if you do not like it, then invest in the prescription mask.

QUOTE(JML @ Jul 21 2017, 02:04 PM)
1) scuba symphony in bandar utama has precription lenses also
2) as above stated, not comfy as u can't breathe through nose while swimming, and u'll look like an alien wearing this in swimming pool  biggrin.gif
3) we had the same concern too, but after just recently dived last month, my wife and her sister just got their OW license and have no issue wearing contact lense + google. they had to do the clear mask multiple times, and the evil instructor insisted they fully remove their google under water. i'd say he is actually very good instructor, as he teaches his students to prepare for the worse case, and not to panic. bravo to him  notworthy.gif
*
He's not evil, it's compulsory, part of the course for your wife and her sister to be certified.

My instructor made me remove completely and open my eyes underwater too. I've open eyes with and without contacts before. When without contacts, it actually feels pretty good. But with contacts, need to be careful cannot open too big, and it's not very comfortable. Not advisable to open eyes when wearing contacts and also not advisable to do so with or without contacts in swimming pool, heard might get infected.

Erm buy diving mask for snokeling? A bit if a waste. Masks are relatively difficult to recommend, you need to go try it in to know if it fits. Go to a few shops and try it out.

RM300 is a pretty good budget. Best is for you to go to dive shops and try it on. Get a snorkel together while you are at it, since you are planning to use it to snorkel.

out of curiosity is EFR something one should only do once or on a renewal basis even if you eventually take rescue diving course just after EFR itself?

EFR is only valid for 2 years. So it depends if you have something you want to use it for again like furthering your diving career than you need to renew it after 2 years.

so just to clarify if i intend to go down the dive master route which is the first path in going pro i still need to take/renew EFR every 2 years otherwise taking it once is fine right? the official site seems to be missing the info im looking for.

i dont like contacts as well. so before your course - either get mask from your dive centre. or buy a mask. quality of your underwater experience will be much better. when i first put on a prescription mask, it was like WHOAAAAAA , what have i been missing out on.

Next dive will be at Koh Tao via Koh Samui. keep u guys posted on the experience. the videos always depict whale sharks, but.. u know la.. the ocean is big and mysterious and very random.
