i wan import Rm4.5k laptop, tax free o not? i got so many diff opinions

if i'm not wrong, only computer parts are tax free where if the parcel is detained, just go over to KLIA and open the parcel to let Customs verify the contents and you will be home in a jiffy...for complete electronic products, i'm not sure but if kena tax also not high, maybe 10% onli....good luck...

no...the customs will still detained any suspicious underdeclared items where you would still need to show them your purchase receipts...hence, be honest...

Oh god,I was actually planning to import a used laptop for personal use below RM500 value and I am from Ipoh,Perak. That means when they tahan my item,I had to go all the way to KLIA to settle it?

So do I need the ST form for it?

Any other way to avoid them checking my items?

Okie bosses,

I've a question to ask, I'm planning on doing bulk on earphone from UK and I'll be asking my frens to bring it back to me, I just want to ask how many same item I can ask she/he to bring it back at a time without arousing suspicious, meaning getting taxed by custom? The item will cost around 200 pounds. Thxs in advance.

for those staying outside Klang Valley, it is only practical to appoint Pos M'sia as your freight agent to bring out your detained parcels...

for a list of items that requires prior approval from Govt Agencies before being allowed to be cleared from Customs, pls click the link below...

http://tariff.customs.gov.my/DEFAULT.ASPX?trncode=KO06
http://tariff.customs.gov.my/DEFAULT.ASPX?trncode=KO06S1000
http://tariff.customs.gov.my/DEFAULT.ASPX?trncode=KO06S2000
http://tariff.customs.gov.my/DEFAULT.ASPX?trncode=KO06S3000
http://tariff.customs.gov.my/DEFAULT.ASPX?trncode=KO06S4001

as for tax amount, usually it is around 10% - 30% depending on type of product but if you appoint Pos M'sia as your agent, i believe you can call them up to negotiate as Pos M'sia Unit Perkastaman actually determines your import duty and not Customs M'sia!....

this is because Pos M'sia will prepare on your behalf the importation doc's for you...

hence, either ranging from jewellery to electronic items, as long as its does not fall under the prohibited items list, then it just matter of clearing the tax issue...

for those which are prohibited like communication equips. and DVD, then Pos M'sia would call & sent you a letter requesting clearance letter from the relevant agency dept where you have to get it yourself EXCEPT from KDN where you can opt to allow Pos M'sia to clear your DVD's with an extra charge ontop of your the standard RM49.50 agent fees..

hope this clears up some of you concerns...

I'm planning on buying some clothes retails form overseas, 2 separate orders:

1 order will be from UK, total price ~RM 1400. Items are giftwrapped (FedEx)
1 order will be from UK, total price ~RM 450 (USPS -> Pos Msia I guess)

I realise I'll kena duty for the first order, but will I also kena for the 2nd? Is there any (legal-duh) way of reducing or avoiding duty?

Thomas Pink in UK, they offer free delivery & free gift wrapping... but only if order > GBP200.

Just got fax from FedEx (not expecting delivery so quickly) asking about the customs duty.... is there another section for it or am I stuck paying the full charge, which comes to about RM 400? cry.gif

i not sure wor. i havent had any experience with this kinda stuff before and i'm awaiting a shipment from UK so i'm kinda worried.

so whats your next course of action? DHL will settle for you?

i think best is you go yourself and talk to the customs officer and try to get of some leniency. i'm not sure what the rate is also.

most of the people say is 10% thats why yours seems kinda high.

do let me know the outcome of your case smile.gif wish u luck buddy.

FedEx say that they will pay customs then I pay them when they deliver. Hard for me to get to LCCT as no car, but FedEx fax me a declaration form asking whether i want to (a) pay the duty as is, (b) whether the item should be declared under other class or © use an agent to clear the item.

I know clothes are supposed to be high tax, but 30% seems REALLY high, I'm wondering if anyone who knows the tariff codes can help me with (b)

I've helped customers to import both watches and laptops.

No duty & tax on both items.
No permit or what so ever required.

Watches Tariff Code:
9101   Wrist-watches, pocket-watches and other watches, including stop-watches, with case of precious metal or of metal clad with precious metal.
   - Wrist-watches, battery or accumulator powered, whether or not incorporating a stop-watch facility:
9101 11 000 - - With mechanical display only  UNT (1) Nil Nil
9101 12 000 - - With opto-electronic display only  UNT (1) Nil Nil
9101 19 000 - - Other  UNT (1) Nil Nil
   - Other wrist-watches, whether or not incorporating a stop- watch facility:
9101 21 000 - - With automatic winding  UNT (1) Nil Nil
9101 29 000 - - Other  UNT (1) Nil Nil
   - Other:
9101 91 000 - - Electrically operated  UNT (1) Nil Nil
9101 99 000 - - Other  UNT (1) Nil Nil
Nil, Nil means Nil for import duty, and Nil for sales tax

I really can't be more relieved after seeing this, however are you 100% there are no permits (SIRIM AP) or whatsoever required for laptops? Does this also mean my item won't be detained by the Customs then? I bought a laptop by the way (Cost me $1299.00 USD + $129.00 in shipping). I would jump off a building if I am still asked to pay more for clearance...

sorry i don't even know the tariff codes and there is not much information online to search about with.

anyway i think the tariffs are open to inteperation by the customs officers. thats why sometimes ppl can get away with running from tax.
