QUOTE(hinz @ Dec 29 2010, 05:43 PM)
I want to take some of the parts out to replace my phone.

What actually approval needed from SIRIM? I went to SIRIM website and found there are 4 applications related communication and multimedia.
1. Type Approval - What is this for??
2. Registration of manufacturer/ assembler/ repair center/ call center - Definitely not this!
3. Import Permit - What is this for??
4. Special Approval - What is this for??

thanks.  icon_question.gif  biggrin.gif

U just go to Customs there , open the box and test the phone in front of the Customs to proof that the phone cannot function already and u tell them that phone u want to use as repair part . They may not ask u for the SIRIM

There's no tax for cameras, right?

Detailed Results:

Into Foreign Customs, January 03, 2011, 6:22 pm, MALAYSIA
Into Foreign Customs, January 03, 2011, 3:55 pm, MALAYSIA
Arrived Abroad, January 03, 2011, 3:54 pm, MALAYSIA
International Dispatch, December 30, 2010, 1:09 pm, ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS)
Arrival
Processed through Sort Facility, December 29, 2010, 4:40 pm, WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT 05001
Acceptance, December 29, 2010, 11:04 am, SPRINGFIELD, VT 05156
Electronic Shipping Info Received, December 27, 2010

I don't understand the "Into foreign customs" twice. I called PosLaju and then the customs and I was told it's being held by the customs, but they cannot give me the exact details because "my documents haven't arrived" or something - according to the lady I was speaking to.

So...what do I do?
Seriously, USPS/PosLaju is terrible. I'll always opt to use FedEx from now on.

Ugh that's just rubbish. Express Mail International but it's taking so long.

What if they decide to impose a tax on me anyway because of whatever that comes along with the camera (i.e. charger, battery, memory card)? rolleyes.gif

Okay so I called them again, and I was told my package is being held by the customs. I can either get Pos Malaysia to settle and collect it for me or I can go to LCCT myself to declare it.

I told the person on the phone it's a camera and that it shouldn't be taxed - he said yes, and something about the customs just wanting me to declare it. He said there's no tax on camera items but perhaps only on its parts.

So I'll have to go later to get it. Retarded shit I tell you.

Btw, any communication device required tax and approval. So yeah camera phone required you to pay for the tax and obtain the approval.

I heard that Custom will tighten the checking process near Chinese New Year. Is it true?

Hi,

If merchant provides free shipping, does the custom still include the actual shipping cost into the tax calculation?
